I want to introduce myself, I'm Bill from Alabama ... I was directed here beginning of the year when I started my garage build ... I've been lurking and reading all that time.

I started my Garage back in January ... I had my uncle and his son, builders, do it for me. It's 35 x 24 and has one 16 foot door and one 9 foot door with about 9 foot ceilings. The slab was already there and is about 37 years old with not too much cracking and sufficent footings all around.

The garage will house my 2000 Custom Silverado and my project vehicle, a 1955 Chevy Stepside soon to be started back on.

Enough talk on to the pictures.

Diagram I did in Visio early on .. the only real change was moving one of the windows to the end.

The existing slab and house, the porch area will be enclosed, making a mud room of sorts.

A few people thought the garage might overpower the house, make it look too long .. but as you can see from this angle the house proportions look pretty good.

Roof gets put on, architectural shingles on the whole house ... and insulation goes in

The house already had a Central Vac .. so ran a port out to the Garage and a Dust Pan.

Siding goes on, unfortunately the company who made the original, Bird, went out of Business .. so we couldn't match it exactly.

After looking around the board, I had decided I wanted to do mine white on top, gray on bottom and red and black in betten. Since I had OSB, taping the lines off would not have worked, so I decided to put up some Chair Rail. Here's what I intend for it to look like.

More to come, I will be putting in cabinets, and flooring in the months to come .. as well as filling it with tools and accesories .. hope you have enjoyed my build up as much as I have looking at all of yours!

The 55 is a long ways from done, but here are some pictures of the cab modifications ..shaved dash, shaved firewall and doors, shaved drip rails .... all new cab corners, steps, door bottoms .. frame has a Camaro subframe ... all the work I have "Paid" others to do on it, I could have, should have, put towards a garage a long time ago.

Hope to have it look similar this one day (painted and finished of course)

The build looks great. The question I have is are you going to do ant work in there? I think it is a little tight. I would have moved the front out another 10 feet or better yet the rear, but you would have had to move the other building.

The truck fits in but would be hard to do work on the front/rear.

The colors /paint look great. Best of luck!

Well, the 55 is mighty short ... I'm pretty sure there will be room to work on it. I have seen people with much smaller garages build vehicles. The silverado has enough room to walk in front of it and behind it with the doors shut .. I'd have loved for it to have been 30 feet deep, but it wouldn't have lined up with the house, nor would the slab have been large enough.

The silverado is pretty much in the done phase, so it will be parked in the 9 foot bay and the 55 will reside in the 16 foot bay.

As for the colors, I have to say they were inspired by the Bunker ... I just took my own spin on it by using Chair Rail.

Not sure how thick it was, maybe 7/16 or 1/2 ... I used the cheapest caulk I could get  cause I was getting about 6 tubes of it ... I had a cup of warm water, a small paint brush and my finger to smooth it out ... you can still see the joints, but not as much .. once it was painted I think it hid them fairly well.

Nice garage! You blended it into the house well. Looks like you have some decent storage space for small stuff above it.

What type of floor are you doing? If you do welding and fabrication that could limit you.

Great Garage !!

I also live in Alabama, but I live about 1.5 - 2 hours north of you in Anniston.

I saw your 55 at the Super Chevy show a few months ago. I raced saturday and won in the True street class, then I entered the car show on Sunday and won 1st place in my class. Oh, I was there racing and showing my 2005 GTO

I really like both of your trucks

I have a detached 24x36 shop with 10' ceiling that I build myself about 6 years ago, but we are moving in 3 weeks and the builder of the new house is currently building me a 30x40 with 12' ceilings. I will try to post some pics of my current and new shops soon.

Oh, ignore my sig pic and my avatar....I dont have either of those Lightning trucks anymore..LOL

What would you suggest for a floor that would see welding, grinding .. sparks?

Nice build Bill. I have been watching the progress over on GMFS as well.
I think you have done a good job integrating it with the house/rear porch; and
saved money by not having to dig up the old slab.

Nice garage!!! I'm also in the Montgomery Area (wetumpka). You did exactly what I want to do. Mine is a brand new house with similar layout except for the roofline. I'm tring to figure out how to tie the two in. I'd be interested in picking your brain as far as build permits and things went with building in this area(new here). Thanks

It may of been answered once already, but who makes that insulation kit and how does it attach? I have a 16g steel door, and if its 28 outside, its maybe only 35 in the garage right now. I have thought about using fiberglass insulation, but i'd like something like what you have.

http://www.texasgarages.com/insulation.htm

Just cut it to size, and put it on with double sticky tape .. I could lay my hand against the unprotected metal door and it was ice cold ... with the insulation most of that is kept out.

The things I have noticed .. it creaks some as the door goes up and it flexes .. I have one spot that occasionally gets a gap .. I just press it down and its fine ... but if I would just apply a little more double sided tape to that area I bet it would go away, just haven't gotten to it.

I like it alot and would defiantely recommend it to others.

Nice addition. I'm working on OSB interior also. Thanks for the pictures.

You're welcome ... once it's painted it's fine .. it does soak up some paint though, when we rolled the ceiling all the voids and everything were filled, but when it dried some of them became visible again .. but overall it looks great and was alot less than any other kind of wall board.

Well, it's been a long last few days .... in this order I swept the garage, then swept it again ... blew it out with the leaf blower. Then I degreased the floor and rinsed it out, then I used an etching solution on it that came with the Quikrete system and rinsed it and then left it to dry.

With the way the weather is, drying was a pain .. I used fans, and then a little propane heater .. then eventually borrowed a 115,000 btu Reddy Heater .. that did the trick.

Then I patched the cracks, I tried this stuff in a tube frm Quikrete first .. don't try it, first off it wants to clog up in the tube, and when it does come out it smells like warm puke .. no lie. This is the stuff
039645862018md.jpg

I went back to Lowes and was recommended this other product from Quikrete and it did the trick ... it's not the same and smells way better. I'd highly recommend it and getting mroe than you think you will need, as it will sink in some after putting it down, I got one quart but wished I had gotten two

So, now on to the pictures ... some Befores (WOW the floor looks bad)

Still have to let it dry before putting on the clear ... should look great. Next project to tackle will be cabinets.

Look's good. It can be scary when it goes on white like that, but no worries it dries clear :).
