Re: Let's see your bottle openers

Thanks to this thread, I stopped by Sears today while we were out and picked up a couple CM wrench style openers... on sale for $4.99. Of course my wife asked why I needed 2

Keep these in the kitchen...a Petrus (Belgian beer), Ale-8 aluminum, and an old Falls City, plus....

....this little guy that we use most of the time. Got it at the Cincinnati Art Museum I think. Cracks me up.

These two are outside in the garage. An Atlas Copco angle grinder:

And one I made in college, screwing a Hudepohl tap handle onto a block of wood with an old RC Cola opener:

This one sits in the basement. Came from a bicycle show, made by Thomson, maker of super nice stems and seat posts.

Re: Let's see your bottle openers

I have the Holy Grail.....

The cast iron Connecting Rod Bottle Opener from GM Research.

My father retired from GM Research Labs in Warren MI. They gave these away at their 1976 Open House.

I grew up with that Conn Rod opener always in my Mothers kitchen drawer.

For my career, I spent 20+ years designing engines for Ford. Engines and cars are my passion. I always wanted that opener, but it was lost for years.

After my father passed away, I found this cleaning his tool box. I swear it glowed in my hands when I picked it up.

I think of my Dad almost every time I open a beer.

I will always keep it and use it regularly.... :)

I highly doubt I ever see another like it....

That is very cool. Love the story.

Similar one on the electronic bay. I almost need it. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=131368779055

I never need a bottle opener. I use the back of my knife like this.

Re: Let's see your bottle openers

I've been making knives during winter the last few years. I made a few bottle openers this year and I m really pleased with them. I use high carbon 1084 steel that I heat treat myself. The best part, they tend to function fine as an opener long before they are finished.

I use to collect old Coca-Cola advertising, so I mounted one on the workbench that looks like this:

I have a vintage magnetic Vanderbilt Products can opener stuck to my tool box, but I also have this version of the Craftsman opener:

Tommy

I keep that one hanging on my steering column. Haven't used it yet, but I hate being somewhere and not having a bottle opener (never mind the few multitools and numerous other expedient openers in the truck).

This one makes a very good icebreaker as well. Been drinking more bourbon than beer recently and the bagged ice likes freezing together. :)
