Monday. Another day of work. Checked the calves and heifers and headed to the shop.

Went to town and got the in-line fuel pump for the truck.

So it was back up and going and ready to roll.
9d2b7e65955ae7128438bd1262f7a199.jpg
Of corse I had to scavenge a few things off the old pump to hang on to.

I helped dad a bit with the 720.

He ended up having to replace the coil on it. But we fixed it up and got it out of the shop too.

I also got back to work on the 7510.

Cleaned the parts and the housings all up.

The little tool did the job.

I got the first one all back together and ready. Seals in the housing on the second are in. But I’m waiting on the snap ring for one of the remaining couplers.

I also forgot to mention yesterday I’m short a seal kit as well. They really get you on these. The kits for the older ones include seals for a pair of couplers. The kits for these are only for one coupler each. Four couplers, 3 kits (one was to have on hand) doesn’t work to finish the job.

But I’ve got everything ready to roll to finish it up when I get the other seal kit and snap ring.

On to Tuesday.

The morning started out as usual.

Foggy, almost cool morning. Everyone got corn this morning. But it was another July day.

Dad picked up some things in town yesterday. So first thing we did was fix a drain pipe for the gutters to the barn.
e16e7e20f620cfede826335bc6eb3030.jpg
At the same sot we had fence to redo. There was a section we had to take out last year when we were doing the dirt, gravel and concrete work for the new grain bin. So we knocked both of those jobs out. They’ve both been on the list for awhile.

Snap rings for the 7510 still weren’t in. So dad informed me that there was a bearing out on the finishing mower on the 420.
1dafac9d71a0f073674a4fddc89aa7aa.jpg
Sure enough the bearings for the center blade and pulley were done for.

I cleaned things up hoping I could get new bearings and snap rings easily enough. But it looks like the shaft is about done for too. So I’m not sure what I’m going to do yet. Looks like letting it sit all those years definitely didn’t do it any good.

Now that it’s September sure enough dad thinks there needs to be another stand for deer season.

So he’s been occupied with that project.
ab5c9ffb6321bbb92f92669faaf28822.jpg
By the looks of it after his trip to town yesterday he has several projects planned.

Since dad jinxed himself last week talking about the tires on the cattle trailer and had a blow out I took it to get some new rubber today.
4ac010d01d9eb20895f025299b9f1f40.jpg
Dad said he was almost positive it was still the original tires that were on it. So hopefully these last 14 years too.

I left the shop and went to check out one of the corn fields.
7b127127ea5f8c065d5d8451c03882e2.jpg
Quite a few of the ears are starting to hang down so it’s starting to get drier.
25d489a894e5c8d8a22bef76bc8acf77.jpg
Some of it looks pretty decent in spots. But nothing spectacular.
93e0942ecaa5f3d3c3dab189f35bad0f.jpg
So stalks even have 2 half way decent cobs on them. Most the time when I see that they both look like ****.
cd8b53a9311d75d81ac267cc57366800.jpg
This whole farm was all fertilized and sprayed the same. It’s all the same variety of corn too. I only covered about 4 of 5 acres of about 115. But at least I have some what of an idea of how it might come out soon.

But spots like this don’t help the yield any.
1ac2c40b83b8c57e0fb22fa0c0d81c87.jpg
All that rain didn’t exactly help things.
2b4bc04734b5bc83f5e3cce0b3c48fd7.jpg
It didn’t do much good one some of our new water ways we tried to put in either.

All the heat and humidity from the day built up a little thunder and lightening just before dark this evening too. I’m hoping it’s a sign that maybe we’ll get some rain by the weekend but who knows. Who would’ve thought after record rain fall already this year we’d have days we’d want more.

Well today was another hot one. Not a whole lot to report today.

Checked the cattle. Deere still didn’t have my snap rings for the 7510. That’s still on hold. Tried to find parts for the King Kutter finishing mower. Have an idea what I need but haven’t fully figured it out yet. Trying to get prices on it too. Helped dad a bit with his deer blind. Moved around a bunch of building supplies he drug out everywhere. Unhooked the dump bed from the 4440. It’s pretty much done for the year. After I get things set for fall I’ll probably get it in the shop for a look over. I don’t think it hardly got enough hours on it this year for a regular oil change. Got dad set up for mobile banking with his bank. Also set-up his SD card reader to work on his iPad. That way he can get a better look at all his deer cam pictures.
af3f2e31a6d5c4c3a6b302afa847836c.jpg
Went to talk to a neighbor about some hay. Got a few bales to see how they grind up for feed. I’d say we’ll likely buy a load cuz we could definitely use it.

Definitely don’t feel like I accomplished much of anything today. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. I know I have a plan of action I’d like to take tomorrow. But I doubt that will match up with dad’s plans. I really want to get everything ready to go on the combine. Not to mention give the trailer trucks a good look over. But chances are we’ll need to get rid of some corn before it’s time to put more in the bin anyway. Hate to sell right now. But bills are bills.

As expected things didn’t go as planned today. I started at the retirement farm. One of the cows and her calf were missing. But I decided to go on with the rest of my feeding. I fed the calves and heifers.

Then had to help dad with his belt sander. He was trying to do some finishing touches on his deer blind and the sander quit on him.

Returned to the retirement farm only to find that likely yesterday evening the missing cow died back by the creek.
9bb93949e258d95860163856b1ce42b7.jpg
Her calf wasn’t big enough to ween yet but I’d planned to get rid of her after we weened the calf. Not sure what was wrong with her. Everything had appeared to be just fine with her lately.
969cc44a328461375bfdfcffe6183521.jpg
Luckily, her calf had followed the rest of the cattle to the barn. So I managed to get him in the lot and we moved him to dad’s.

This morning a friend of mine dropped by to borrow the gooseneck trailer to haul a truck he was buying. Later this afternoon I got
A phone call. Apparently he had an issue.
f43cff336eb29a23f00bc6ae28b143a1.jpg
I’m assuming the axle hub must’ve ran out of oil. The bearings over heated and blew apart. So the whole hub with the duals just about came off the trailer on the road. But luckily, when this happened he’d already dropped the truck off somewhere and was literally pulling into his driveway. But the hub was ruined, bearings and races gone, ruined the whole break and screwed up the spindle. So it looks like we’re going to be making some calls for a new axle tomorrow!

I finally got some parts ordered for the King Kutter mower too. Local farm store chain was able to order them for me. Not sure when they’ll arrive.

On the plus side, really the only plus side of the day, I went to Deere and picked up the seal kits and snap ring I needed.
47b8e3256eb153a28744cf5cb755ab70.jpg
So I finally finished the SCV couplers up and got the 4 problem ones rebuilt and back in.
0d70238bad09d37385e19103c5381ed7.jpg
I ran the tractor and bit and worked the levers a bit and so far everything seems to be ok. I’m going to hook up my test gauge to them tomorrow to make sure things are good.

88aa856ef879415b9bb8af2faf360fa5.jpg
So it looks like I’ll be keeping this little rig around should I need it for future coupler repairs.

6fc84e69064267ce008520ad0c7a23dd.jpg
At least now I can see the top of my toolbox again, at least temporarily.

4770aad026f1e4a670df0efd9b16f397.jpg
I think dad is finally finished up with his deer blind. I may have forgot to mention he was making it mobile as well. The running gear for it was from an old little trailer my uncle used to haul firewood. But the old wood bed on it was done for. Old thing was breaking apart. So now it has a new purpose.

d6576b8529173f7374abe5279bf179ba.jpg
Two of dad’s tractor pulling buddies dropped by. I guess dad bought a set of tires from them and they helped him mount them up on a set of rims we had around.

22432e57bb2b0fa7b5f10a17292a4b80.jpg
So it looks like I’m going to have another daily chore on the list. We have the newly orphaned calf in the barn. He was already getting some feed. So we bought him some special calf feed. So I think once he gets used to the new set-up in a day or so he’ll do alright. He’s got a little feed, a little hay, and water. I think he’ll do fine once he gets settled down.

So not exactly an ideal day again. But it’s all part of it I guess.

Between the River Hills & the River Bottom

New day today.
e9cc7f17d7a4f01971bc3e6ab11c8c39.jpg
Did the daily chores.
a11d118566de50ff787d68ef0365dc50.jpg
Took care of the calf.
818c0d894ec38c50a4f63ddfb29d427b.jpg
The last bred heifer had her calf early this morning. It was all cleaned up but still pretty wobbly on its legs this morning.

Dad decided to try and work ground in the bottom. So of it needed to be gone over again and some of what was too wet to work before is finally starting to dry.

While he did that, instead of continuing on the 7510 I decided to get a start on a few other things that need to be ready to go.
528b1108c9a371c5db52e60a45f735ee.jpg
I loaded the Kubota up. It was time to service the combines.
d4e3d19385b02367fa8fbd26872f7049.jpg
I started on the 9770. I greased everything and started looking things over. Of corse keep in mind we had Deere inspect it back in the early spring. But I still like to check things over fairly well.

I greased everything up, lubed the roller chains
334973f02ce0c52b5b4ade5085b212da.jpg
I also added some of my grease fitting decals in a few places. Hopefully they stay. I added them in places like pulleys were there is a grease sitting on the back in just one spot. When the combine is in the field, dirty and you’re in a rush in the mornings to get going. Not having to look and grab around everywhere for the geese fitting can make things a little easier sometimes.

Both combines were due for an oil change. As well as hydraulic filter changes and fuel.
b4e01e93a67ff00bb76f4d5dfe47f0b0.jpg
I replaced everything on the 9770 and then decided to move on the 9500. In the midst of that some much needed rain moved in.
2004ed84829b6b3dabb6c727a4989a8a.jpg
But it only amounted to a few tenths.
47a685427bd35d0fcedef8a606aeb12c.jpg

e9c3a5edea31452b6d8992ba64b44e8b.jpg
The 9500 was due for an oil change and all new filters as well. Most of the filters are not in the best locations. So I did my best to contain the mess of everything so it took a little longer than most filter changes.
ffb068d1d8ad55f997a04b1212c35864.jpg
The rain and the clouds made things become darker a little earlier.
Luckily I had the work lights with me.
bed8c0b8819d7b8f5fe3a5653049f09f.jpg
So I finally finished up with it and cleaned everything up. Still some things on both combines I’d like to look over. But most of the stuff is taken care of. Just need to get all the correct settings adjusted.

12 filters all together between both today too.

So one step closer to having things ready roll for fall.

Hi CliftonBros89
I thought I would drop you a line to say how interesting your blog is. Although I am not from the farming community I can relate to the varied and multiple tasks that you guys do every day. I used to work on a farm as a kid to earn pocket money. Now semi retired. I am from the UK, in fact right in the centre of England in the county of Derbyshire in the Peak District National Park. Great countryside with plenty of arable and livestock farming. Not on your scale. Where do you get your energy from? Very long days and still find time to write this blog. I am still only on page 46 so have plenty of reading ahead.

Made a run to Cape on Thursday, down Route 3, surprised about the amount of seep water still sitting in fields. Lot of healthy weeds waist to shoulder high. Friday, had an interesting conversation with a "neighbor" of yours that lived on Kaskaskia Island 1993 flood and was in charge of medical evacuations for Randolph and Monroe counties.

Thanks. I appreciate it. Glad you like it. I’m not sure where I get the energy from. Most of the time I feel like I have no energy at all. I guess I was just bred to do it.

I haven’t been down there for quite some time. I bet things are still pretty rough down there. Luckily, things here are starting to dry up.

Things were pretty rough for Kaskaskia in ‘93. I wouldn’t have wanted that job. Things were pretty rough for them over there this year too from what I’ve heard. It’s hard to believe they have no decent way to pump out all that water.

Back at it on Saturday

Checked on everyone to make sure things were good.

One thing I’d been wanting to do with corn being close to ready was check over the grain bins.

So I did a bit of an inspection on each of them at dad’s. Making sure everything is intact. No holes anywhere. Made sure all the fans are in running order for drying. Also that all of the lights are working for unloading trucks after dark. The larger new bins of corse are good to go. But there are a few things on some of the older bins to work. A few spots to chaulk, a few bird nest to clean out of spreaders at the tops of the bin and a few electrical repairs that need to be looked into. Just more work to do I guess.

I took a trip to the bottom to look things over.

Since things are drier now dad was almost able to finish working all of the ground a few days ago. Looks a lot different than it did a few months ago. It really looks a lot different than it normally does this time of year. It looks more like the end of March or beginning of April than it does mid September.
0111d5c9e7e68c42fd5f4012c7131ad3.jpg

I took the rest of the day pretty easy. I stopped to look at some more corn on the way home.

It’s definitely not looking like a record year by any means (not that we were expecting it to be). Two different brands at this farm. One really doesn’t look the greatest. The other not as bad. The Fieldview program is really helpful for this. I can walk through the field with my phone in hand and can see exactly where each brand and variety is planted. Not to mention satellite images that show where the better spots are in the field.

It wasn’t hard to see the worse spots from the road a few months ago. Stalks looking for yellow than green. Definitely a combination of problems. I think we lost quite a bit of nitrogen due to the rain. The rain of corse was excessive and was too much moisture for the corn. Plus the usual spots of disease and ear worms that like to attack the plant too. I’d say we’ll definitely be below the national average.

After looking it over I called it a day by early evening.

Similar day today. Or at least for the morning.dfd98b0820acabc5f67f6bf39c3ca6a9.jpg

I pressure checked the SCV’s on the 7510. One reason being to make sure there were to faults with the repair job to the couplers. Second to see if the calves are working properly. Good news is the couplers seem to be just fine now. Taking the tester in and out of the coupler worked just fine and there were no leaks at any of the couplers when I pressurized the gauge. But I may have to look into things with the valve a bit further. A few of them seem to be seeping off and loosing pressure very quick. So I may have to look into that as well. More work.

Other than that I just checked another corn field this morning. Not to pleased with the way it’s looking. But it’s on a farm we just took over a few years ago and is a place that needs quite a bit of attention. I don’t recall what the brand or variety we planted at this farm but I may have to look into it as well. Although not ideal conditions for this year the results of this variety was not good.

Another day tomorrow. We’ll see how it goes.

It's weird how issues always arise when friends borrow stuff. Kinda makes them and you feel bad; the hub would have failed next time you used it but for some reason if you borrow something, despite best efforts to lube grease etc, that's when they choose to die.

Definitely lucky it didn't come off on the highway, hit and kill someone, and become a major issue.

That is true. Had it happened it would’ve definitely been when I was using it rather than dad. Because that’s the luck that I have.

That is absolutely true. We said the same thing. I’ve seen it happen with semi-truck wheels to someone before. It can be a huge problem going down the road. Another reason why taking time to look things over and inspect things is so important.

He bad thing is dad and my uncle use the trailer more than I do. They don’t always take the time to look things over. Plus, it’s a trailer each time you hook to it you think, “Well, I’m just making a quick trip down the road I can look at things next time.” But then that happens 10 more times.

Not to mention the damn manufacturer for the trailer put stupid chrome hub caps on this thing that won’t even allow you to check the air pressure in the tires with out taking a socket out to remove the dumb things each time. Needless to say the hub caps are being removed and staying off now. So when someone hooks to it they check the oil level in the hubs. Not take the lazy way out.

Agreed. I get when people don't care about company, borrowed, leased stuff. But I don't understand when people don't check over their own. You obviously do an exceptionally well job looking over your own -- it's a mechanic thing, my dad does the same.

Are the ears grouped on your tailgate by variety? If so, lot of damage on top variety. Hope you can avoid dock, yield and price bad enough without dock.

Thanks. I feel like I have quite a bit of room for improvement. But I try.

Yes they are. Fortunately, not all of that variety looks that way but there are plenty of areas where it does. I’m hoping there is not dock either. Like you said, the current price is low enough without getting less for it.

Including the calf.

Pulled the 7510 out of the shop. I think it’s good to go for now.

I checked the moisture on the corn I grabbed out of the fields. It usually gains a point or two when it’s going through the combine from what it is when it’s hand shelled.

We put the corn head in the shop. We looked it all over, greased it up and got it ready to go.

Then we backed up the big auger to the shop.

Good thing we decided to look it over. There was a sprocket that needed to be replaced.

I replaced the roller chains on it.

Going to put some new oil in the gearbox.

Also, added some of my stickers to it. Just in case.

Dad made an extra stop going to get the new sprocket for the auger. He picked up the hay we looked at last week.

On the way home I stopped to get some more corn from a field to test moisture on.

About the same as the rest of it. We’ll see if it’ll dry some more this week.

Made another trip to Cape today, saw several farms drilling wheat into fields not planted because of flood waters. Good luck to them!

Heading to central Illinois Wed/Thur to help Wife's 82 y/o Brother in law get equipment ready for fall harvest. Asked him if I needed to bring tools or anything? … Yes, bring your own bandaids LOL

Looks like you're going to be shelling corn next week.

Maybe some of those guys were lucky enough to get funding for a cover crop on some of that unplanted ground. We weren’t that lucky.

That’s not a bad idea. I have a box in the shop and in the truck.

There’s a chance for some rain tomorrow as a cold front comes in. But if those showers happen to miss us we may be in the field by the end of the week. A few minor things on some of the grain bins to do, look the trailer trucks over a bit, make a few minor adjustments to the combine for corn and we’ll be ready to roll. I think anyway. Other than hooking to the grain cart. I know it won’t be dry dry by then. But I think some of it will be dry enough for the bin fans to get it down to dry in a reasonable amount of time.

On to Tuesday.
IMG_7528.jpg
The day started as usual.
IMG_7529.jpg
I pulled some more corn to test moisture from another farm.
IMG_7530.jpg
Did the feeding.
IMG_7531.jpg
Found the load of hay dad bought.
IMG_7532.jpg
Then we finished doing the last few things to the big auger and got it back together. We also swapped the hopper to the other side for filling the big bins.

Then it was time to check out the other auger.
IMG_7535.jpg
I checked things over on it. Replaced the roller chains on it and replaced a missing set screw on a shaft.
IMG_7550.jpg
The main chain that drives the auger needed to be replaced too.
The hopper for it is getting fairly old and starting to get in pretty rough shape.
cf79ef1aa0319224c4a9341ec80c3d49.jpg
So I patched a hole and a crack in it. Might’ve put a few dollars in hardware on it. But considering that piece of plastic is likely to be at least a couple hundred bucks I think it’ll work like this for at least a little while.

New part for the finishing mower came in.

But they only sent one instead of two...so we’re waiting on the second one to arrive now.

And then we backed the corn head back in.
IMG_7537.jpg
The header trailer has been overdue for some new tires.
IMG_7549.jpg
So we got the new tires put on and dad repacked the wheel bearings.

While it was in I remembered I was going to replace the seal kits on the hydraulic hook up for the header.
IMG_7543.jpg
Since I lost my entire inventory list so I didn’t know if I had the seal kit or not. But I found it. But I only had one and I needed two.
IMG_7544.jpg
So I took one apart and put it together. But I didn’t have the seal kit for the second. But I have it apart and ready to go for tomorrow.

So this hydraulic job required assistance to take things apart.
IMG_7547.jpg
As you can see someone had this in a vice at some point in time. I didn’t want to have any issues so I can up with a solution.
IMG_7545.jpg
The end fit just right in an 1-3/8” socket. But then I needed something to keep the socket in place.
IMG_7546.jpg
2f2ba61d7e5edadf53b29e9b8f94f20f.jpg
Luckily, I had a scrap piece of 1/2” square stock sitting around (left over from my 1/2” crowfoot holders I made). So I stuck the square stock in the vise. Slid on the socket, popped the valve in the socket and was able to undo the opposite side with a wrench.

It worked great. I feel like I’m kind of starting to get the hang of this stuff.

Pretty much sums up the day. We’ll see how
tomorrow goes. Chance of rain. This morning actually felt like fall. But looks like it won’t last long. Back to the 90’s by the weekend.

Itching for harvest like the rest of the Ag world, but the only corn coming off is seed corn up here. Gonna be a bit before guys are rolling. I think our test farm is shooting for mid october? Then I get to go play with my software in real crop rather than simulated.

There’s a few combines here rolling. But not everyone by any means. Some of the corn that did managed to get planted early has been ready to pick. There’s actually been some beans coming out already though. I know of several guys that planted a lot shorter season beans than usual.

What sort of software would that be??

Today was another day.
110362cd73ae46d1e89d556573540ed8.jpg
Checked the cattle. Then back to the shop.

We looked over both trucks making sure they were both good to go.
d6830f6ecfaa00eb12148fd448237ccd.jpg
1c8ff084e6d1ebcb31733b818d3271df.jpg

Then we got the 8400 and grain cart from the bottom and made sure it was ready to go.
a80eeb7e3e1622f985f983ba09efc4d1.jpg

Then it was on to getting the grain bins ready to go.
76fe130a0a50f0b3a5d78e3773a232ba.jpg
And sprayed the bins too.

a688bd938e6b2c918d947353b6575b19.jpg
Then grabbed one more sample of another variety of corn to test moisture.

5852835fabd838186efb2e74e5b7e055.jpg
Then we pulled the combine out. Made the last few adjustment to get things ready to go for corn. Dad fueled it up and the 8400 while I made a trip to town.

436c71422e05e04ea7e6bfc376b1f9e8.jpg
I picked up a few things we were needing in town and picked up that second seal kit I needed yesterday. Oh yeah...does the picture of the seal kit looked like $29.75 sitting there? Cuz it was. We just invested $60 in the corn head just in o-rings for the year...

So I put the valve back together.
783f0d1f41301b5953f1cb3aba54197c.jpg
Hopefully there won’t leak anymore.
eb29b4c5ca7d294b520227639a5db2fd.jpg

So just about everything should be ready to go. Just need to move things to the field and get the auger set up on the grain bin.

We were supposed to get rain this evening but it didn’t build up like the weather man said. It ended up staying south of us. But there’s a chance for another round in the morning as a day long cool front moves in. But if that rain misses us tomorrow we may just give it a go with the combine and see how things work. Just depends on the weather.

Start of another day today.
01a9b6185f68cfab13dcbbf72e139100.jpg
Fed the big calves and the group of heifers. Checked on some of the rest.
8cef900dbc7920d0dcbef7628ea799d4.jpg
They didn’t all seem to enjoy the fact that they all didn’t get corn this morning.

So there was some rain in the area this morning. But as I figured it would do, it did the same as yesterday and didn’t build like the weather man said and it stayed south of us.

So that meant we were going to give it a shot in the field.
c5cd980f98f329142bebf465aca6e72c.jpg
3098d8fac923efbcda41318559fa5538.jpg
I loaded up some spare parts for the header, multimeter stuff, grease guns, grinder, compressor, extra air hose, extra extension cord, threw is some extra wrenches (some 12 point crowfoot, and larger angle wrenches), should some sort of unexpected hydraulic issue occur, extra fire extinguisher, moisture tester, leaf blower, gas, lunch box, iPad, water jug, few other odds and ends to be prepped in case **** goes down. The cat pictured was not included, though she would’ve gladly followed.

4b1a517717ff296a1bd37daedf00d1a7.jpg
We set up the auger on one of the big bins.

7fa25728a835d0613082a3fa1e1cc634.jpg
Got FieldView set up in the combine.

97eebf5940ea840f85072179bc022386.jpg
Then we set out with the combine and grain cart. I hopped in the cab with dad to make sure everything was set where it needed to be, make sure FieldView was working, test the moisture with the tester to compare it to what the combine said it was too. So we got everything lined out.
ef98736b6d697132ddeae7154dffee08.jpg
My uncle took over the combine, dad jumped in the 8400 and I was running the trucks.

57d3ea9d87ced6e11ecab92eabe431b0.jpg
The 4010 gets the job of being the auger tractor this year. It should be good for it.

So we ran til a little after dark. This farm doesn’t seem to be too bad so far. It’s making about what we expected. Wish it’d average out a little more, but I’m not sure it will. But everything seems to be running fine. We put a decent dent in the field today, at least for getting a late start and not rushing to get started. So we’ll see how it goes. The corn isn’t fully dry but it’s drier than what we expected. So we’ll likely keep on rolling with it.

0b200131b7dac09d66db22cfdcde4129.jpg
Found an old pair of vise grips on a gravel road today. I passed over them 3 trips thinking that surely someone would get them. But by this evening no one had so I picked them up. Looks like they’ve been well used and sat out for quite some time. May not be the best shape for the shop. But I might clean them up and stick them with my old tool collection at the house.

Stepped in your footsteps Wednesday and Thursday :) Moved 4 round bales from south farm to north farm. Set one for pasture feed and set 3 aside for next 2 weeks. Prepared combine, semi/trailer, dump cart, and 3 wagons. Air in 36 tires and 8 tubes of grease, ready to shell 180 acres starting Wednesday. Have a SAFE harvest!!

Have you found a way to reseal to the combine side of the multi coupler. I have 3 or 4 in my truck that want to fix. Lankota has seal kits for the header side I’m not sure of the price difference from Deere is .

So here we are on Friday.
d148c2f3808ffe16af6bc4a892f33b0e.jpg
a5a114a478b9b4127610c9c0b03689a7.jpg
Started the day with checking on everyone. Fed mineral and loaded up the back rubbers. Usually don’t have to worry about that much when it’s almost October. But with these 90 degree days the flies just aren’t going away.
4bf978efcce1802a16035df5cb799e97.jpg
We had to grind a couple batches of feed. Once batch for the feeder for the big calves and another batch for the tank for bucket feeding.

But then it was off to the field.
a3e2c1a412fd9ecd4838124a5ea2558f.jpg
Fueled and greased things up and we were off again.
00d836df4642674963bf9344f6ea3dfe.jpg
I loaded a couple trucks then dad took over and I unloaded trucks.

97ef41dfd88c79307cc0341bfe29e05d.jpg
But then I had an issue. The bolt on the shaft of the gearbox for the auger broke. Which should’ve been a relatively quick fix.
54b543b849a1eef341378c265eb540a0.jpg
It busted the bolt in 3 pieces and the middle piece was stuck in the hole of the shaft. Usually it just pops out and you put a new bolt in and you’re good to go. But this one didn’t want to do that. I ended up having to take the gearbox loose to slide it off the sprocket and then get it knocked out. What a pain in the ***.

cbc0162d8c439a4ccbd1af3b4aa7b4c4.jpg
But then I was rolling again. That incident put me behind so dad took off with the full truck and I took over the grain cart again for a bit.
81aac44be890ad022ab1cdc0c5dd1a65.jpg
0abb3f02ab419ec6cfc68298cc4709a5.jpg
But then it was back to hauling.
a012802a991ddd6248de822d98b4e3bc.jpg
a62ade97b386f70612104fa3fa51e2a8.jpg
So we kept rolling.
391e9786bffcf4be07cfd0abd5865077.jpg
FieldView on my phone allowed me to keep up with where my uncle was at in the field.
51d25814b2283f087ab5047467f71ccf.jpg
7cda3e9e197623a9b280271264ad6a6a.jpg
We kept rolling til we finished the farm. About 115 acres all together since yesterday so far. So not to bad. Didn’t make quite what we hoped. But it’s better than it could’ve been with this terrible year.

So that farm is done. All the corn is in the bin. We finished a little after 10. Got some things ready for tomorrow. But it’ll be off to another farm in the morning. Hopefully we can have another decent weekend and get quite a bit knocked out.

Prepared combine, semi/trailer, dump cart, and 3 wagons. Air in 36 tires and 8 tubes of grease, ready to shell 180 acres starting Wednesday. Have a SAFE harvest!!

Sounds like a good time. Thanks you too.

Have you found a way to reseal to the combine side of the multi coupler. I have 3 or 4 in my truck that want to fix. Lankota has seal kits for the header side I’m not sure of the price difference from Deere is .

I’ve never done the combine side of the coupler. Luckily, we haven’t had any issues with it. But I’ve been curious about it. I’ve never looked at the combine side in the repair manual before.

In other news despite the corn going well we developed a new issue today. My b-i-l got the 7510 and brush hog and started to mow around the cornfield this evening. But he had an issue with it not starting again. Then the PTO wouldn’t turn on. Sounds like we have a stupid electrical issue.
