Sounds like you’ve had some of our days at the farm. The better days seem to make up for the not so good ones. Thankfully, there are the great days that make it easier to forget the really lousy ones.

I’ll be interested to know what you find out was the problem with the 9770. We almost bought one this fall, but decided to finish the year with our current one. Trying to decide if we will upgrade our tractors instead, but with current crop prices, we may not do that either.

Here’s hoping for a smooth finish to the rest of your harvest (and ours)!

GGB

Wow what a ride. Your combine issue may make its way into my office, but I won't see it personally. There's always something to keep us on our toes, no matter how much testing is done. Even the newest 9770 is 8 years old, so finding new issues like that at this point is fairly uncommon.

Well supposedly the 9770 issue was just the controllers, for now. They updated everything and we set off again. It seems as though the header still sets lower once the contour system is active. Which in turn is still causing the whole head drag on the ground. It just still doesn’t seem to run like it did before. But they’ll be returning to work on a few other things anyway. So we’ll see if anything else comes about.

So yesterday started as usual. Did the feeding. Then I had to unload a truck for dad.d4b8d76be5b4ad9d76eae3fc6c8ec4d1.jpg
Then we moved the combines back to the field. The Deere mechanics came back to check on the 9770. One thing we’d brought up to them was the unloading auger. It shook a lot. But the auger was brand new. When they came for inspection they replaced it.

Come to find out the one section of the auger wasn’t timed right. So they retimed it. But while they had to work on that my uncle and I had to move my dad and the 9500 from one farm to the other. So we took care of that.

We returned to the 9770 and started going again. The unloading auger was still shacking. But they said as soon as the 9770 is freed up for a bit they’ll replace the auger.

So we kept both combines rolling.

So I kept the trucks rolling too.

Dad was able to run later than my uncle so I kept the trucks going for him too.

We tried to keep going as long as we could with a chance of rain on the way.

Bad part of the day was one of my T40 torx bits snapped. Luckily I had a gold one on hand too.

That's weird on the auger timing issue. Can def cause issues downstream.

I’m assuming when it was out in it wasn’t timed properly. The guys timed it properly yesterday. But since there is still shaking they’re wondering if the one section isn’t balanced properly from the factory. That’s why they’re going to replace it.

Definitely could cause some issues over time. That’s why we mentioned it to them.

So today I got up and checked the cattle. I was feeding the heifers when I saw a new arrival.
fd92aae7b2046923e75bbc91b5a80ce7.jpg
There was a big red heifer that obviously wasn’t ours. As I figured, it turns out she belongs to the neighbor. Sunday evening he had sent me a message that he was missing a small black heifer. But it seems as though he was missing more than just one. So I locked her and the other heifers up in the barn lot for now.

5acbd1784df5e2ad5f1c6c8ff5abf765.jpg
Then I unloaded both trucks from last night and got things ready to go for the day.

Not many pictures. But I got my uncle rolling. We finished up out at the retirement farm. Then moved back to the shop.
645b68e10ce3e754829b78db99f1029b.jpg
So I again kept the trucks rolling. Then I helped move trucks for dad down at the other farm. He was able to finish up too. So we moved everything back.
2c70f71c14d0ab814159cebc7591c787.jpg
It was supposed to be cloudy all day. But we managed to get a little sun to so the beans weren’t quite as tough.

So we wrapped up things with the early planted beans. Now we just have to wait awhile for the later planted beans. Just in time for a cold front that was on the way this evening. We were supposed to get rain. But it doesn’t seem to have really amounted to much.

So with being done with that for a little bit I unpacked the truck a bit.
54d941d1c58f420c86d751b658def4ea.jpg
I had picked this tote up at Menards for around $20 I think it was. It seems to be pretty tough. I probably have over 100 pounds of parts in it, it’s bounced around, dirty, had oil on it, had grease on it. It’s holding up great so far.

So we moved everything back to the shed with the threat of rain. We left a truck loaded with beans to haul off and sell.
ade84bc72eaffcdcc745c3108fe470fa.jpg
Then we loaded the other truck with corn. We had to haul off a little bit that a landlord had contracted for the month yet. So we’re taking a full load.
c68a98329a168d40b859e0cad4ade534.jpg
Of corse I had to get in the bin and scoop.

48e9282b48bad0727994422ce33f64e0.jpg
So I have everything in the shed for now. If we don’t have much rain overnight we’re planning to get started on drilling some wheat and some rye and spreading some fertilizer.

dff9b587dc34a56212f291c490df34c7.jpg
Had some time so I looked at bit more at the 7510. I’m trying to narrow down the possibilities before I just throw parts at it. It’s taking me forever. But I’m getting there. I think.

I’ve been using the **** out of my little Wiha bit driver ratchet lately. I tend to forget about it. This thing is super handy.

Well the day started off as usual. The regular feeding. We ended up with no rain late last night so it was back to it today.
ace12994498fe88aff38786d394a2113.jpg
We started off with hauling off some grain. I took a load of beans and dad took a load of corn.

Then we were back to the shop.
62363426ce984248e35ef856ed72c16c.jpg
I tired to get the 7510 going pretty quick to give it a run today but it was having issues. So I left it in the shop.

57c6507007cfd2905b89488ed1fdc9f5.jpg
We cleaned a little leftover rye out of the drill and got it ready to go for wheat.

b3146e679430c286af57de192586cfd9.jpg
Dad picked up some wheat seed while my uncle did some mowing around the fields and I spread fertilizer.
a4bbeea4ce35087d28e4705f9e73c18f.jpg

I helped dad get the drill loaded with seed.
6a7975ee47f5575789322de1d72e921d.jpg
Then we all set out to get some things done.
d83bcd57300ebdb17a8ebd0174d9df23.jpg
Dad kept going and I got over the whole farm with fertilizer this evening.
532b754868e75ad64317835caf186dc1.jpg
My uncle had quit mowing to go now hunting this evening. So after I finished with fertilizer I took over mowing for a little while.
ab97f41a480477cc31913bae2771377e.jpg

Dad kept going a little after dark. At least until he ran out of wheat.
a292e921b0db06764a3cbf19b8d37eeb.jpg
So we loaded up the last of the wheat in the drill so it’s ready to go for tomorrow.

I took the fertilizer spreader down the road to another farm so I can have some more fertilizer delivered first thing.
7089590bfd7a0d4a0a3bf7a1e6d14f61.jpg
Then we went to one of sheds and grabbed the second auger wagon and checked it over so we can go pick up some bulk wheat seed.

So it’ll likely be more of the same. About 130 acres all together to drill of wheat. Then there’s a farm of about 66 acres that we want to drill rye on for a cover crop for the winter. The goal is to get everything done before the weekend. Several rain chances by the weekend and beginning of next week. It’d be nice to have it all in the ground before that arrives.

The problem is being able to get it all done with out any hold up’s. Today’s problems included the drill monitor. It somehow managed to completely reset all the settings on itself. So it thought the tractor was running at over 22mph in the field. Which really messed up the acre and population counters on it. But I finally solved that problem and got everything set the way it needs to be.

The other problem was the 8400 throwing a code about the hydraulic reservoir saying the oil level is too low. Which it may be a touch low. But shouldn’t be low enough to set the switch off. It wouldn’t be a big problem. However, the drill required constant flow from the hydraulic system to run the fan that pushes the seed through the seed tubes. When the code goes off in the system of the tractor it immediately shuts off that oil flow to the fan. That can cause the whole drill to choke up and also make skips in the field. So we’re adding more oil in the morning. If that doesn’t fix it I’ll have to further investigate.

I cleaned up that pair of vise grips I found on the gravel road a few weeks ago.
b71e1471c03ef4c6c16d34fbeb4f2847.jpg
Not the prettiest. But they look a whole lot better than they did. The function well and lock well. But the jaws are definitely worn out. So they’ll likely stay at home with the old tool collection. They won’t be ending up in the tool box at the shop. That’s for sure. But they are a nice older pair.

Well to catch up a bit. I may be leaving some details out it’s been a busy few days.
3a8cfe22dc2b0c6a0c1ae57a361387e7.jpg
Thursday started with feeding.
5b7793a57b31e90bafd463674c394adb.jpg
Then I got the 8760 and field cultivator from the bottom. Had some spots to fix before we drilled more wheat.
9a8abf49883c38b3d90ab50d1c58af66.jpg
After getting things set for dad I set out to spread some more fertilizer.
f454b4c87e251b5fd3ff052e59fafa8b.jpg
So while dad drilled and I fertilized I had my uncle fix spots in the field.

In between waiting for fertilizer I printed out the wiring diagrams for the 7510 to attempt to help me diagnose issues. But then more fertilizer arrived.
84502a808beeb7b632103be0b38d3a5b.jpg
I helped dad get moved and set up to drill wheat at the farm I was at. While he did that I was back to spreading fertilizer.
ef1b0d2d71cfcc3835ca38cbbb8581d7.jpg
We got some wheat in bulk so we at least weren’t loading the drill with bags this time.
756756ea126f638c25cbc5f49433ea50.jpg
Then we got things set for Friday.

Friday didn’t quite start as planned.
ae3b94ffa45172b8dc86cf6772c7e6d3.jpg
Another flat on the Kubota. I didn’t even bother getting it fixed I just ordered two new tires so we’ll have new rubber all the way around.

So I did my feeding with the truck. After that my dad’s buddy had been bow hunting on the ground back behind our place. He shot a doe which I helped retrieve and gut. But then I had him give me a ride to get our trailer truck. I dropped it off to have new tires put on the back axle of the trailer. It was due for a set.

After all that I got dad set on drilling wheat again.
f47b2481170e6131ddbcd3ad36f4e6ac.jpg
We needed more wheat to finish up and then I also picked up some more rye seed to drill a bean field with rye for cover crop.
a3b262fafaa079d166ea5a296f344477.jpg
So we were back to loading bags again.

Dad finished up drilling the wheat and I went to get some rye we had sitting left from last year.
64abaa89ccaf354b4ff8ead871719216.jpg
So by then we’d finished up with all the wheat we were going to do. Dad had some stuff to do so I hopped in the 8400.
a5bffefec82c0d56d25ae507ba28a600.jpg
So I loaded up the rye for cover crop. Everything went good til one of the seed tubes broke.
4b924d7a7afdc571dea2ce231e84deca.jpg
But I quick temporary fix with some electrical tape got me by for the rest of the farm.
ee6ab57ed7349c49b16e5880c95255ed.jpg
So I ran til a little after dark and called it a day.
cec29dc06c61ed9e179f32351a6d59ad.jpg
The cab is very illuminated after dark.

After that I headed back to the shop to get things ready for the next day. Shut down the bin fans too.
c086ad3dab41c5b17f01d94bf49ff240.jpg
We had 10 bags of wheat left over too. So I loaded them up to return on Saturday.

On to Saturday I started with some errands in town. Then off to drop off the left over wheat and picked up a bag of started wheat for the calf. The black calf with the cow from the retirement farm are both doing better. So they’re still out with the heifers and the couple other old cows. I did the feeding and then headed out to finish the rye.

First I picked up a new hydraulic oil fill cap for the 8400. Dad seemed to have misplaced it. We did a temporary fix with a towel, some plastic wrap and a rope.

So I was ready to go and finished up just before noon.

By noon I was back at the shop.

The neighbor was finally coming to get his heifer. So I was able to get her moved in the barn on her own and loaded it up in his trailer for him when he finally arrived. Hopefully I won’t have to worry about that again. He’s had several cattle get out this year. His dogs got out this summer and ended up at our place too.

So I got some things cleaned up out away from all the jobs from the last few days. I also checked on some other stuff too.

Looks like our rye to cut for hay is coming up really well already.

I also unpacked some new tools for the truck that I ordered online.

The orange thing is a pinpointing metal detector. I thought it’d be handy for those important dropped bolts and the like while in the field.

I also made up a jumper hose. Thought it’d be handy for warming up hydraulic systems on the tractors for winter and what not.

Then I put everything away and in the shed for awhile. Called it a day a little early.

No pictures from today, being Sunday, but I did do some stuff. Did the feeding and checked on all of the cattle everywhere. Then I finished up some brush hogging along one the fields we drilled wheat in. Had some road ditches and some hay patches to mow.

Busy week in between everything. Dad was doing some camping with one of his sister’s this weekend too. Plus his 40th class reunion homecoming too. Both events of which required straw bales. We loaded up 70 bales for the camp ground and the class reunion.

I’ve had plenty to keep busy. Plenty more to do too. But with wheat and rye being finished up there’s just the last of the beans to go. I don’t ever remember having a fall go by this quick. Having 600 less acres really makes a difference.

A front is on the way tonight and expecting some storms and rain in the early morning hours so we’ll see what goes on the next few days.

Well sure enough there was rain early Monday morning.
e7f2b8288322f1f3e3e7366e762e0c55.jpg
It wasn’t a very eventful day. After doing the feeding I mainly stayed in the shop.
098dcfaa000f5fc31d35501454d7f597.jpg
I looked things over on the 7510 and tried to find the electrical issue we were having. But I grew tired of it.

Dad finally took the starter for the 4010 to be repaired.

So after he returned with it I finally got it back on the tractor and got it out of the shop.

Also took the front wheels off the Kubota to have the tires replaced.

That pretty much sums up Monday.

So this morning I did the feeding.
929b055f8d62a5ed9c3813ae7e82becd.jpg
After that dad and I ran the calves at my uncle’s through the alley for shots, worming and ear tags.
00d6742eee47bb173d16133547c3454c.jpg
Then we moved them to dad’s to go with the rest of the big calves.

Found what the issue likely was on the 7510.
21dde69bc794c540f75aa35e7e73747d.jpg
The power terminal on the fusible link on the engine harness was coming apart. So replaced it and I believe that fixed the issue.
02b87b2f207af4279b8b268b417dab0d.jpg
So the 7510 was finally back together and out of the shop.

c8b78a6c9c47056217814887c901ec32.jpg
Also got the new tires for the Kubota and got it they put on too.

Dad picked up the new axle for the gooseneck trailer.

87e3cb5918d66dc3dc2c00648b527773.jpg
So that’ll be a job to do soon.

When I made the trip to pick up the Kubota tires I had to stop by my grandpa’s jewelry store. He was having an issue with the oxygen tank for his torch.
f62d4b741bfae0be52be30f032af92f7.jpg
But I found out that it wasn’t the tank with the issue it was the valve itself leaking. Guess he’s due for a new one. But he also said he’s pretty sure he’s had it since about ‘68. So I’d say he got his use out of it.

Got something new today.
a72032ab6afc657eb36ab790a720eaa8.jpg
DeWalt 20v compressor. Hopefully it works decent. I’m looking forward to trying it. Thought it’d be handy to keep in the truck. Not sure it’ll work on anything big but it’d be handy for low tires now in the field and what not. I’ll have to try it on something this week.

So since the shop was empty I decided to take the chance to clean it up a bit. It’s been ignored the last few weeks.

023599715e9db3f0642f8e8018c81494.jpg
So besides a deer stand and a set of wheels that dad has in there the shop was pretty decent once. All the work benches cleaned off. Hauled off the trash, scrap metal, got parts and tools put away. Cleaned things up a bit. It’s ready to do some more work.
efc962ac132fdf29649e9c8a76fa7f69.jpg
I’m going to have to do something different with all my paper work and records soon. Not sure what I’m going to do but I’ll have to come up with something.

I also need to come up with a way to organize some other stuff around the toolbox area too.

Deere came to replace the unloading auger in the 9770. It’s all good to go now. They made some final adjustments to it. So now that the season is almost done it’s ready to go.

Wednesday arrived.
96a346069b6f25a8c27d863dfb92fe5a.jpg
I checked on all the cattle and fed everyone. Put out mineral too.
49ad89fe882ae509aac944b541c77333.jpg
Then I put out a batch of feed for the big calves.

Since I had the 7510 out of the shop I hooked it to the brush hog.
cef12287e2d781a964c89e1320dd0f6c.jpg
So I mowed a few of the fescue patches we cut for hay of the neighbors.
0ec4261803a79ed70d64eed03efb5f43.jpg
Then I mowed the farm where I finished up with the rye over the weekend. I mowed all the water ways and road ditches.
98ef1e2c76db3f512ebb3f263aab831f.jpg
That pretty much summed up the whole day.

Dad put a tube in the front tire of the 7230 today. Then he spent a good portion of the day bow hunting.

This evening I got stuff ready for feeding in the morning. I also stopped by the Matco guy’s house for a few things.

Another regular start to the day.
8061b33cdf3ab6663211633298bf62eb.jpg
280fb1fc9c0ecd485c36fd95bcd5a215.jpg
Checked on everyone and fed them.

Beans still aren’t ready and it was a cloudy and damp day. A little drizzle this evening. So I decided to use the day to get things put away.
23f0a94995d4b6f0966e5bf0acd26840.jpg
I cleaned out the auger wagons and ready to go back to the shed til next time we need them.
59de56ee7edfef48fc4c0e981d8ca4f6.jpg
We moved things around to make some room.
1b361be041fad77904285c3343765f5d.jpg
While dad put some hay wagons away in the barn at my uncle’s I cleaned out the 8300 drill from when it was last used for food plots to be ready to be put back in storage.

We put away the auger wagons and also the water second water wagon for the winter.
fc9c3277961af3e45bdc1126d6ab5527.jpg
We also finally moved the hay we bought over to one of our wagons so we could return the wagons to the guys we bought the hay from.

So with the extra wagons out I moved things around and finally have room in the barn for awhile.
13ac3e22d099345d8980cbc4ee80742a.jpg
It’s nice to have space.

I also slightly reorganized the corner in the barn where the fencing supplies are.
bab07a2e2780075f00df2e579268382a.jpg
It doesn’t look that great and it looks likes it’s just a bunch of junk. It pretty much is. But it’s in better shape than it was.

So after moving some things out of the big shed there was a bit more space in there.
df56faddb31e52c0b62a97b6468cb47e.jpg
We winterized the sprayer so it’s ready for the winter. The combines are ready to go to finish beans. The 8400 and drill are ready to drill just a few more spots of rye. 7510 is ready to mow. The 4440 is ready on the cart and the 4010 is on the drill right now until we get a chance to put the drill away.

So most of that took a good part of the day. I quit a little early so I could go by my grandpa and grandma’s.
66d7681627ac417b49bbb6d72bf26236.jpg
Grandpa had an issue with his lawn mowers. He bumped the shed with his Deere and it knocked part of the hood loose but I got it back in shape.

8b2a7917129accf8f2d554510ab91c28.jpg
He had a problem with his Craftsman mower as well.
e7f13ead144e62d9216e1e973a6a1f97.jpg
I’d found the the deck belt had came off the drive pulley.
24d0add6b4c749278aa9325288740ca6.jpg
So I had to take the deck off and the belt was ruined. So I have to get a new belt soon.

But that at least gave me the chance to see something I haven’t been able to see in awhile.

Grandpa’s ‘41 Plymouth. This things is mint for sure. Super clean. Has a big block Chevy under the hood. He’s always been a big Mopar guy.

I also treated myself to an early Christmas this week.

In addition to the DeWalt compressor earlier in the week I picked up a ratchet for the truck, extra long double box 24mm for the shop, terminal tool, and battery tester from the Matco guy last night. 1/4” drive crowfoot wrenches from Snap On, and a hay sample probe from Oakfield Apparatus.

Well to catch up we’ll get back to Friday. Another cloudy, dreary day.
IMG_8072.jpg
Checked on and fed all the cattle.
IMG_8073.jpg
Pastures are starting to get a little thin so I decided to go ahead and put out some hay for the cattle.

Dad got a turkey with his bow that morning too.
IMG_8074.jpg
Cats were really interested in it.

Since I was getting things put away for winter I disconnected the batteries on the sprayer and took the monitor out of it.
IMG_8075.jpg
I’ve been taking them out over winter.

After doing some of those jobs I got the Kubota cleaned up. It’s due for service.
IMG_8076.jpg
Dad was wanting to do some work to the four wheeler too.
IMG_8077.jpg
So I cleaned it up too. I cleaned up the shop and pulled both the Kubota and the four wheeler in.
IMG_8078.jpg
I forgot to check and see if we had the filters for the Kubota. So sure enough we didn’t have any of them.
8e327481cf747631aea5155fd6b5179e.jpg
So I made it to the dealership just before they closed up at 4:30. Luckily they had everything I needed.
6d871f2ca970e5cae374e2b15be333dd.jpg
So I went back to the shop and got most of the service work finished up. But there’s still some stuff to look over.

Going to need to have it ready to go for deer season.

So we knew we were in for some rain early Saturday morning.
Adjustments.jpg
I didn’t get started as early as usual. But it just kept raining. So I went for it.
IMG_8088.jpg
I got soaked. But I got the feeding done.
IMG_8089.jpg
It was coming down pretty good. The cattle didn’t seem to be enjoying themselves much either.
IMG_8090.jpg
By 10 we had well over an inch and it just kept coming.

Despite the fact that I had shop work to do it was cold and pouring so I decided to call it a day after I’d checked all the cattle. Plus, the rain had gone through my coat and shirt by that time. So that was it.

So Sunday I did my regular feeding.
IMG_8097.jpg
Foggy, cool, damp. Not the nicest morning. As you can see we had a good amount of rain for the day. Four inches on the mark. It is muddy. This is going to definitely not work out well for getting our last beans out.
IMG_8098.jpg
After feeding corn I drove around and checked the rest of the cattle. I put out a few more bales of hay too. They must’ve been needing some more than I’d thought.

So it’s definitely wet now. We knew we were getting rain but not this much. The weather guys seemed to all have it wrong. We were supposed to be on the edge of it. But the worst, heaviest stuff ended up right over us.

Warm temps for the next few days, but down to the low 30’s by the end of the week. With a high chance of rain by Wednesday and Thursday. Rough weather for the cattle. Not good weather for getting in the fields either.

I really like my DeWalt inflator. Keep in mind it has a finite duty cycle though...you aren't going to be filling up flat P/U tires to 80psi nor rear tractor tires up to serviceable levels. Now, to keep the tire on the bead or pickup something that's been sitting, yeah, they're good.

Yeah I figured it wouldn’t be able to do that sort of task. But it would be nice to have something to pump some air in a low wagon tire or the like. It’s a lot easier to store and use than the gas compressor.

Took the afternoon off today after doing the feeding. I decided to take the metal detector to one of the bottom fields.
IMG_8101.jpg
It was a big hole. But once I found it I couldn’t not dig it out. It didn’t take long til I was pretty sure I knew what it was.
Adjustments.JPG
Pretty sure there was another one buried in there too. But there was concrete too.
9528bc40e65a5f6d4ff56992f820d265.jpg
Not sure exactly what was going on there. Appeared to be some sort of old concrete foundation buried there. The bottom of the disc was a good 8”+ below the surface of the ground. Who knows how long that’s been there. That was about it. Just some nails, parts of old soda cans and a metal plate from some sort of equipment.

Came home from that and had a surprise.
IMG_8103.jpg
I guess one of mom’s barn cats decided to hitch a ride on my truck this morning and attempted to move to town...she didn’t like it much...she’s one of the not so tame ones. But I managed to catch her. Mom will be happy.

Not much going on this Monday. Still muddy.

After taking care of the heifers this morning I got back to work servicing the Kubota. Things seemed to be in good shape so it should be good to go for deer season.

I replaced the solenoid for the fuel injector on the 7510 today. It was more of a pain than I thought it’d be. For starters the original one was a pain to get off.
45eb56d1a524daa74cf638108f86bef9.jpg
Thought being round it’d slip past the injector lines. But I had to take it apart to get it off.
84bc5beedd2a09f393f48a4ff2469e1d.jpg
Then for reasons unknown to me the new one was square. That made it real hard to get one.
f29b7af1b52f5eefb5d5e96422132046.jpg
Next to the block, behind the injector lines, it’s a fun place to put it. So I had to loosen the one line to get the new one on.

Crowfoot to the rescue. Let’s hope it last.

After doing that job I checked on the cattle and put out mineral for them.
9e4bd1612d13227ac0a78201f0407eed.jpg
It was nothing but clouds all day long. The ground didn’t do any drying.

I stopped early so I could go take care of Grandpa’s lawn mowers.
41cd5677ad3eb0368b51f05a93a1b040.jpg
The craftsman got a new deck belt so I put it all back together and it’s good to go now.
d9b8be94dbd443328b0f51d8e5ca5419.jpg
Then I got him a brush guard for his JD. Just in case he has a similar accident in the future so he doesn’t demolish his hood.

So with that I called it a day. I forgot to take a picture but grandpa gave me an old 3/8” drive oil filter wrench. Kind of neat. I don’t have anything like it. He said he bought it to use on something, but hadn’t used it in years and didn’t really care for it anyway.

Here’s my collection of finds from metal detecting Sunday. Some nails, scrap pieces of tin, parts of old cans, disc blade, and another piece from some piece of equipment. Not really sure what it is.

Well the last couple days haven’t been very eventful.

I started Tuesday going to the retirement farm.
f3bb62b1883cacb9375f16ab7cdcbcd3.jpg
It was a dark, dreary, damp day all day long.

When I got down to the farm I had to put out hay for the rest of the cattle.
2c02c07648c7af53d6e4823331eafd6c.jpg
The hay that dad delivered to the camp ground and his class reunion was returned and we stacked that with the hay.

I winterized the four wheeler sprayer and the sprayer for the Kubota.
4536b1d0d7c1a9a28c8e2f934b259eb4.jpg

Since we aren’t done with stuff in the field I’m not going to pull anything in the shop to work on it. So due to the rain I’m sort of at a stand still.

So I used that time to do some other stuff.
c815c3d05a8ff5e762862602d1d884b0.jpg
I cleaned out the feed shed.
5a05663590d2d8d5aff9fb36449029ff.jpg
Then I gathered up the chemicals that were between the two sheds and somewhat organized them into the shed to get them out of the way of everything else.

In between moving things around in the shed I tried to move the ‘44 A. But it just wouldn’t fire. We tried to pull start it and still nothing.
4ce243102462843c2e0cd5512c3edaf3.jpg
So it moved to the shop.

Today was even less eventful.

I started the day checking on cattle. It was cool, cloudy and raining.
18b0cf963f5a45e566a9be518bfa20ea.jpg
Did the feeding too.

Then a precision planting dealer came by.
ce60fc9685caf1d2bb7ea443cba2c5c0.jpg
We talked over some options of add-on to put on the planter. Haven’t decided for sure on anything but we’re considering some things.

After he left the rain slowed and I put out a batch of feed for the calves.
49c66875fcfa010f4e529efb8a8426f8.jpg

Put a new set of plugs in the A and got it fired up. I let it run while I was grinding feed.
c52ae620b027fb530b3bbd16d276fbb9.jpg
So after grinding feed I took the A for a little drive to warm it up a bit since it hasn’t been ran in awhile.

So I had an empty shop.
20acae72c05f1996f274d5a9bf7d8306.jpg
But it rained some more and the cold front really started moving in.

So I set out to look over some other jobs I plan to get to in the truck shed to clean things up a bit. It’s amazing how I seem to have to reorganize everything every winter. That’s going to have to stop.

But I couldn’t do much as we had some MFA guys come to talk about seed.
a37065d0898849c8c0da0d3d40e566d2.jpg
We had 3 separate calls about seed today. Everyone is trying to reach their deadlines on all the “discounts” they have to offer.

So I definitely didn’t accomplish anything today.

He’s my new 3/8” drive filter wrench that grandpa gave me. Not sure if there’s anything I’ll need it for. But it’s nice to have options.

Neighbor I worked for, on occasion, had an A that was a flywheel start … It got pulled a lot and ran all day until done LOL

They’re not bad to turn over, as long as everything is working properly. When they’re not it can become real old, real quick to keep turning that flywheel.

So I’ve been trying to find a better way to store my paper for service records and some other paper work I’d like to keep in the shop.
6651617b3ee3f4ace907133095abcc16.jpg
We do have this little file cabinet. It’d be great for filing paper work, service books and tool catalogs. Especially, if it was on casters.

Then there’s still my lube/service cart.
a6d53b86d508cb8876cf45322653262c.jpg
It’s out in the truck shed for now. But I’m going to want it in the shop for winter while I’m working on things. I’d like to be able to use it for engine oil, hydraulic oil, coolant, gear oil, some fuel. Basically any fluids I need for regular service on the trucks and tractors. That way I can have everything in one spot and won’t have to make multiple trips out to the truck shed to get everything. Plus, keep my drain pans on it and maybe buckets for old oil and what not. Not to mention my box for my funnels and the like.

Bad thing is I’m not really sure what I want to do with it or add to it to hold everything.
The real bad things is do I have room for it?
9180d6073ff60f1ecdaed67ef436a46c.jpg
As you can see my corner of the shop is getting pretty full. I don’t know if I’ll have room for the cabinet and the cart.

I’d also like to find some sort of container(s) for engine and hydraulic oil. Something that could hold about 10 gallons of both plus maybe have an electric pump? I’m just not sure what I’m looking for.
