The there is this one, but while a working model, it was wood:

Any idea when this pic was taken? The vise and the factory both look kind of dilapidated - after Athol was out of business? Any idea what became of the wooden vise?

And thanks, Royce, for coming up with a vise I actually don't covet. I have nowhere to put it and no way to move it!!

This was all discussed the last time this pic was posted in this thread. The location of where it was is documented as DK showed, but the whereabouts, or the wooden vise is unknown.

This is one of my "vises" It is like the never ending project, always something to fix or improve on. Not a B+ but it works for us. The picture is last year when Kevin Scott was our tour guide of Estes Park & Rocky Mtn. National Park.

That is one of the most awesome vices ever! Totally impressed by Royce and Dr Scott's work!

So Royce, go weigh your trailer at a truck scale, Then bring that monster back to the scale on the trailer!

Get I had a great time with you and your wife and just love your ride. Looking at one myself but a little smaller.

This vise project turned out to be exceptional, the finishing details make it, plenty of great functional fabricated vises out there but yours looks perfect.

I'm a little late to the party...

But, as they say, better late, than never....

YA DUN REEL GUD, BUBBA!!!!

After looking at the size of that behemoth, I had to add a "REEL" to the normal "YDGB"....

Congratulations to both of you...

Thank all of you for all the kind words and don't let Kevin downplay his role in this project, without his help, it would probably be semi-functional but would not be as smooth running nor as handsome as it is.

REEL GUD, that is like winning a blue ribbon and eating a banana split all at once, how do you beat it!

Here is a few of the grandkids cheesing it up to show it's largeness.

Incredible work Royce.

Highly inspirational for a tool junkie like me to see a craftsman at work. Also, Kevin----brilliant execution on the parts you created.

I'm glad I stumbled across garage journal last year because had I not, I would've never seen this project come to fruition.

Very nice gentlemen. Thank you for making this.

If you really want to go over the top, up grade your pallet just a bit to custom fit the vise so it can be lagged down to it. Maybe Rivenhewn to do some of his magic on the woodwork.

Thanks again all,
I really can't say on the hours, never track them.
This was a one time only project, maybe one of you fellows can do the next one.

I was like wtf and wow that is awesome when I opened up GJ this morning.

That is quite the craftsmanship a real beauty.

Thank you for sharing it.

So my reaction got me to thinking, has anyone ever crossed over threads before? If I saw that picture of a vise that size on a trailer, I wouldn't know where to put it, the thread of awesome or the thread of wtf.

I have vice envy now, thanks and I never really appreciated vices before.

A truly awesome piece of functional art.

I have know people who have vices, and people who have vises. But only on Garage Journal have I met people whose biggest vices are vises.

I see what you did there.... Also, Ryan did that on the homepage when he posted it, wonder if anyone else caught that.

I toured the Newport News Shipbuilding facility once. I saw some absurdly-large tools. This vise looks like it would be right at home there. It looks amazing.

Royce...….:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

All of the accolades sent to you (and Kevin), are so well deserved.

What impresses me most is that I have seen fabbed vises before, and they look so homemade. This looks like it came out of a big name manufacturer that has no limitations.

The look is sensational, kinda of what I would expect if Ferrari were to design a MAC truck.

I know they are busy scouring the country for big vises, so they may not have seen this thread. I think that DEMOMAN & VISES would break their piggy bank to own this beast.

Again, congrats and eagerly awaiting to see your next project

**** BTW, I did not see it mentioned anywhere but did you come up with "MILLSCOTT" as yours and Kevin's last name?
