The 73 Super Beetle had a curved windshield; I don't know how someone will think it's a 73. I never had a Super but drove a couple and they seemed to drive nice.
The last owner said he thinks what happened with the previous owner is they most likely lost the title but had the title and vin for a 73 one so they made this one a 73 and it was the time before everything was computerized and said you could get away with it back then.

I have seen them have all kinds of issues after a blown headgasket. My buddy had one that kept blowing out radiators after doing a headgasket.
It’s had like 6 radiators put in it as well after a collision we kept getting bad ones. We talked to someone who a mechanic referred us too that supposedly studied Cherokees and he said he thinks there may have been a flawed block. He said in 2001 they used whatever parts they had laying around because they all knew they were losing their jobs so something that didn’t pass quality control would have been thrown in anyways.

Total guess here, but I wonder if there wasn’t a special head gasket from the factory? Like maybe they used different blocks within the same year, and the ones with certain blocks used a custom head gasket to work with the same head. Or maybe a sheet metal insert to block a port?

Id love to see the gasket compared to the block.

So glad to see you start a thread! Live at home as long as you can. Such a good time to pay off debt and then contribute to retirement while accumulating funds. Little is as desirable as lack of debt. Good man.

I love beetles, too, but you are wise beyond your years. No point in tying up funds and carrying debt for a project you do not have time for.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of your projects, and tools. :coffee:
