I have created my own personal Makerspace. Really into DIY CNC (computer controlled metal milling and routing and 3D printing that I have built myself or retrofitted in the case of the 1050 knee mill) and have a pretty extensive woodshop and metal shop. Will add laser and cnc plasma as well. Here are a few pics. I have outgrown my 2 car detached.

Yup

Third Woodnetter also.

Great start, on the building!

Where in the Bloomington area are you. I grew up just up the road in Dwight. Still have family in the area. Spent a little time in Bloomington after college, which was a long long time ago. :D

South edge, do you remember Funks Seed or Crestwicke?

Yup

Did a little work at some of their fields a long time ago.

Again a great build and I think you will have a first rate Makers place when done.

That and spent many hours at the Chicken (forgot the real name of the restaurant at 51 and old 66)

Mr Quick - Was that the chicken place? It closed shortly after I came in 1996 I believe. That or there was a Sandy's.

Today we got vented overhangs, a roof and bubble wrap under it, the porch started, windows framed, and pedestrian doors framed. I got a free (freeebie in that cool voice) window upgrade because they forgot them on the semi last Thursday and Menards only had 4 windows in the 36X60 low E argon insulated. Also the porch trusses were for a 12X24 porch so we are getting a 12' porch ceiling depth as a freebie too. Will add to concrete now though. Also raising the porch a bit to account for space needed for the larger windows.

Here was 5:30pm on day 3 - They worked till 7pm again tonight.

I also just came in. Johnny (Deere 3320) and I got the gas line and two cat6 lines to existing shop in conduit and 90% buried.

16' under header is tall enough for a second story loft in part of it.

I did 14x14 roll up doors - anything that drives on roads can fit in it - many over passes are 13'9".

Windows ended up being 36"x60" and they look great on this sized building.

Yes the inside, now my real work begins.

Congratulations, you are a lucky man.

I wish we could build like that here in California, itd make things a lot easier.

Enjoy and thank you for the updates!

1st panel is in - 200amp single phase panel. GE Powermark Gold oriented for bottom feed. Added a ground bar and a lug off the ground bar. Conduit to it is 2.5". Wire is MHF 4/0,4/0,2/0,4. Next up will be the Rotary Phase Converter boxes and the 3phase panel. Wall is 36"X8'. Box is mounted to exterior wall that has framing and insulation behind it and two sheets of 3/4" oak faced ply. All circuits will be in conduit and I plan to install a home made slatwall/french cleat system on all the walls.

Not much time today but got these panels in. Temco 20hp RPC box and the 3phase panel that it will power.

Met with my concrete guy and we discussed the cash for the exterior rock and dirt and getting the grading done and site prepped with 3/8 pea gravel. Floor work soon.

We got 20 tons of pea gravel in and started to level out the floor sub base.
Also put 20 tons of black dirt back filled around the building. Still need more but a great start.

I also got my CSST mounted in the new shop. It comes up some 2.5" conduit so I cut some holes in a PVC box and mounted the wall plate to it and attached it to the conduit.

Other line is a phone line from existing shop and a cat5 line to run to existing shop as the new shop has a line from the house. Tired of crappy wireless to the buildings so this will be a great place for an access point. Going to put in a POE gigabit switch in the new shop and a good access point.

Great looking shop...I'm a few hours north of you and on the Wisconsin side of the line and will be pushing for a building nearly this size--with minor differences in appearance.. What kind of quotes are you getting down your way--or was your bill for the assembly of this building??
Thanks-
john

Bloomingtonmike,
Great looking shop and awesome tools. I live West of Lincoln, IL and looking at building next spring. Mine will be very similar to yours except 12' sidewalls. Can you send me quote info and salesman contact? How does construction compare to Morton?

Thanks,
George
