After installing two of my circuit 2X4s I decided I did not like the blue box for wiring them together. So today I changed out those blue boxes where the 2X4s meet for 4" metal boxes. MUCH easier to wire. I also used Wago 773 push wire connectors to make joining the wires MUCH easier. Sure beats twisting wire nuts. Here is the 1st circuit of lights.

I have made a total of 12 of these boards now. Four more to make for the metal halide lights then I need to install them (4 are up already - see lights above).

Tonight's progress. Bottom picture shows How I am managing 6 runs of wire across the 40' span about 8' at a time on my 16' scaffolding. Wire coils rest on the smooth part of the 2.5" Kreg screws being careful not to damaging any jacketing. I installed a wireless access point in the center of the building's ceiling too and an ethernet cable to the location and an outlet for it. Also ran the wire that will be used for a 20amp circuit for some center building instant on T5HO lights as well.

Told myself I wanted to flip on 16 candles from two different doors in the new shop by my birthday. I made it with 1.5 hours to spare. 40ysld today.

Also made a couple 3.5" access holes through the main panel to behind the wall and got the service in the box for the second panel. Some days are more Milwaukee corded than Makita cordless!

Tonight's progress. Four more light bars and two more lights installed and I decided to move them 4' more apart to help spread the light a bit more. Hope to have these four under switched power this weekend.

Also been cleaning up the rust on the Delta 16" radial arm saw I picked up off CL last week. Been using Evaporust and Rust Free from Boeshield.

Installed the romex at the west end today - another 50' at 16' up. This got me my first four T5HO bulbs lit on 3-way switches and the outlets powered for above tool access if I ever want them. Its awesomely bright. I love it. I figure about 30-40 trips up and down the scaffolding today. I am getting pretty good at doing this work myself. Now to move the ply and do the same thing on the east end and also get the east door garage jackshaft opener installed.

These pics are without flash and at least 30'+ from the lights or more. Awesome!

very nice shop, cant wait to see the machines in. Whats your plan for wood shop dust collection and keeping the dust out of the metal machine ways? I will have a similar problem when Im finished with my building. My hope is to do a 2nd floor in my 40x40 section thats totally isolated for wood equipment.

I have a 5hp cyclone and a 5hp single stage dust collectors already and a Festool CT22 vac for the hand routers and the hand sander. I will pipe with spiral 8" and 6". Looking for deals on some metal wyes is a constant. I plan to keep most wood tools on the south 64' wall mostly on east side and the cnc router will be in the north east corner. The metal lathes and mills will go in the north west corner. So dust collection and physical separation. Plus I do a pretty good job of blowing off the machines and keeping the ways oiled. It sure is not perfect in the current setup but the new shop is 3X the current shop. I also want to do some chip containemnt on the big mill and maybe I will do some curtains around the lathes. I am open for suggestions but I am not adding walls.

Last night I finished installing the east door's Chamberlain 8500 Jackshaft garage door opener. While I was doing that I also made a sign for a buddy's one year old's birthday today.

If this is going to be inspected this won't pass.
P3230064_zpsk7hznoa3.jpg

You need a bushing in those holes, like the one in the top center.

That is a Little Giant Aerial Safety Cage 8'-14'. The platform adjusts from 8'-14'. They also make one with the platform at 5'-9'. Typically working heights are 6' above the platform. The picture is the platform at 10' and I can change the bulbs on my lights at the bottoms of 16' rafters. I plan to order the Wheel Lift option for it today. It will be maneurvable like the ladders in the box stores.

Check the Chicago Craigslist Tool listings for some great deals on these (compared to their list price at least) 86turbodsl.

The building was put up late last year and I got a deal on the metal halides so tehy went in ASAP. As I saved more slush fund money I put the new ones in the center - 6 bulb T5HO. Those are sooo nice. Ill be changing them all to T5HO as I save more money.

Come to IL and I will sell you some more metal halides I have super cheap.

Getting some wall circuits and outlets in this past week and this weekend. Good buddy Tony came over and helped run a bunch of romex. Huge help. Megan my daughter helped out a ton as well. Glad to have great friends and family!

Adjustable boxes are used to make up the difference in the 1.5" thick plywood walls I will have.

Today's progress:

Ran 12/2 romex for outlets for under cabinet lighting that will be under the binder bins at about 10'
Ran 12/2 romex for outdoor outlets on porch and the east and west garage doors

ran some 10/3 for a couple 3phase outlets and a 10/3 for a potential 1ph spot for my cnc router where I want 220V and the neutral

Built a pallet movable two sided easel and the wife painted a pallets worth of plywood white (43 sheets) using an airless system I borrowed. Its now on my list of tools to own :) I loaded and stacked the sheets while she sprayed them. I stacked them up after they dried back on a pallet.

heres another option for high work since you already have the baker scaffolds, kinda expensive but I see them pop up used now and again for 1/2 price.

love your shop and attention to detail, cant wait to see the projects after its all done. :)

Tonight's progress. Rest of radiant panel built. Pretty nice copy of the HydroShark radiant panel only with nicer pumps and a ton cheaper.

Now I will mount the hot water heater and plumb up the pex to these AMAZING Watts Quick Fit connectors. They are soo nice! Pricey but made the install a million times easier.

Tonight I mounted the boiler and ran the 3/4" pex to it from the panel components. Also ran 1" pex to the 9 loop manifolds that go too and from the floor.

I needed to get some wall up to mount the disconnects the in wall circuits for the boiler will terminate at by the panel. The boiler has three 40 amp circuits with 8ga wire ran to disconnects. You can see the pencil marks where the disconnects will be. I am using outdoor air conditioner disconnects that I will mount tomorrow. To do it correctly, I decided to just start at the floor and get some slatwall up. I am using a 2X6 against the concrete as my kickplate. It is attached to the posts and and also a 2X6 in the middle that connects to my bookcased 2X6. I got three sections built and installed. Everything is insulated with R19 batts behind everything. Notice those 120V and 220V flush outlets through the slats - that took aligning the box hole between the solid wall board on the back and the slats in front. I used the CNC to cut the box holes out in the exact same spots. Then with the help of the adjustable boxes I could install them through 1.5" of plywood. SWEET!!

Teaching Megan, my 8yr old, how to wire up some disconnects. She is getting the last box ready to connect up the last circuit. She is just like her dad, she gets shown how to do something and then immediately wants to teach it back as a way to reinforce to herself what she just learned. She gave me a lesson about 3 minutes later. Kids ROCK!
