An unexpected package arrived today from sawduststeve! In addition to a very appropriate Yule Britannia holiday card there was a tin of Walkers Pure Butter Shortbread biscuits. I don't recall Liane mentioning that she loves shortbread 'cookies.' Much as I would love to put the empty tin on my wall of fame, I don't think that's going to happen. I will be thrilled if I get to eat one of the Walkers (I'm going to hide the tin until Boxing Day).

Steve, I hope you and yours have a wonderful Christmas and happy New Year. Liane mentions your daughter often. Her charm and grace are a rare treat here in the land of the bored and spoiled.

Before I retrieved the mail I spent a little time in the workshop. I managed to cut the rest of the dovetail joints, trim the back piece and slide the 3/8" drawer bottom in the slot. It was almost cold enough (~60*F) to put on a jacket or sweatshirt but I was enjoying the feel of a sweat-free t-shirt. Sanded the drawer outside under the shelter so several teaspoons of dust remained outside.

Now I have to empty the table saw cabinet and mount the full extension slides. I don't think I'll keep the glue and biscuits in the drawer -- it will be for saws and the power plane (might not have room for the laser level).

just curious since the screw on funnels are pretty cheap do you toss them after each use or just wipe them off and stick back in the drawer? I can't even tell you the mess making that might save me from making in the future if I get a few cause even though I have metal and plastic funnels here I never seem to have enough hands to use them.

Rian, you are too kind. That funnel is great because it has the two most common spray and squeeze bottle threads in it. The foam spray bottle is a different size but it's big enough to not need a funnel. I'm afraid I got carried away on the US Plastics site, buying dozens of bottles and different kinds of sprayers.

I have to admit I smile every time I open that cabinet to get a chisel out.

Drives, thank you for the kind words. I have always admired dovetail joints in drawers and now in my twilight years I get to make them. It's a reason to keep going!

I don't even toss paper towels until they are used twice (once to clean my sunglasses and once to blow my nose (in that order). A great feature on those funnels is the split ring on its edge. You can clip it on the neck of the bottle and it's not taking up space in a drawer. I'd forget which drawer it would be in for sure. One funnel hangs on the last bottle on my chemical rack.

And the other hangs on one of the spray bottles on my utility cart.

Drives, everyone who has broken an arm knows you can get along with one good wing. Admittedly it's frustrating at first but as time goes by you adjust. At some point you learn to be patient and control the impulse to throw things. I haven't thrown anything all day!

That single drawer cart was not my dream but the bigger 4- and 5-drawer HF carts take up a little too much room. At this point I don't think I can get anything else hung on it.

I think the callouses on my nose are tough enough. I will not mention how long it has been since I had a cold -- for sure I'll catch one Saturday (pre-Christmas family gathering).

Steve, I cut my drawer making time dramatically and this one didn't require mid-project repair. However, Bob's Box Making CO will only ever break even if my labor rate is less than $0.00. Even then I'm paying top dollar for bottom shelf material.

I don't think I mentioned Liane's Birthday but your package arrived on it. Lest you think your present was trivial, it beat mine. Years ago I bought her jewelry and other expensive presents but at our age neither she nor I can afford to wait for a birthday -- if I find a really neat ring in March, she gets it. This year I took her to The Fresh Market and Trader Joe's. The Fresh Market had standing rib roasts for $7.99 a pound so I'm making one on Boxing Day. Also found a dozen roses for $10.99 and a package of dark bittersweet chocolate that looked good (turned out to be the best she's ever tasted so I think I'll be going back). Trader Joe's had a dozen roses for $6.99 and I forced three packages of chocolates on her. So two dozen roses and some chocolates for 25th birthday. Dinner at home was spaghetti with white clam sauce (and scallops).

I like how organised you are mate, nice work.

GB, I did see that and didn't want to lead you on. Perhaps they will get it back in stock because I think the set of three templates (plus router bits and guide bushings) makes for a better package deal.

I actually laughed out loud today. A few days ago one of the light fixtures in the garage died. I thought it was a bulb but two new ones didn't fix the problem. Obviously the dinky little electronic ballast for the 4-foot T-8 fixture has failed. It's a perfect opportunity to convert the fixture to LEDs. I shut off that circuit and turned on the lights over the three bays. Just as I was finishing up and putting the cover back on, the lighting behind me changed. I didn't look back -- just turned the circuit back on and flipped the switch to test the new LED bulbs -- and they work. But now the fixture to the right probably needs the same done to it. I laughed because I have two LED bulbs left and I wouldn't have them if I had done the second 4-bulb troffer in the workshop. Life is good -- I have something to do.

Had a semi-productive day. I needed to move the chisel racks from the door of the Table Saw Cabinet because they would block the drawer from opening. After some quick measuring it turned out the big chisel rack was too deep so I made a new one from the same scrap as the wood carving set. I was in a hurry so I mounted the slide track to the side of the drawer. I was real proud of myself until I noticed I had mounted the chisel racks to the back of the drawer and the first drawer slide track backwards. A few extra screw holes on the back and one side will be a reminder to go slower in the future.

I made a couple of gauges to line up the drawer slides. I used the one with the step to get the clearance when setting the drawer side of the slide. It was a real treat getting into the box to place the screws. I confirmed that I don't have severe claustrophobia.

Once the drawer was on the slides I was able to get the saws and a few other things stored away. There is a power hand planer in the back, a standard size reciprocating saw on the right, a jig saw in front of the planer, the dado set in front of that, the circular saw and the mini-reciprocating saw at the very front. The mini belt sander, Bora track saw mount and a couple of miter slides for good measure. Over time I'm sure more stuff will find its way into the drawer but for now I'm happy it's all off the benches.

I'm happy with the end result and now I just need to write myself a few notes telling me where my stuff is stored. Hmmm, it looks like there's room for another drawer in that cabinet above this deep one.

Rod, I like that idea. I did buy two odd-shaped miter bars to fit the table saw. Another project to add to the list.

Bobby, I did it twice because that's my normal. I used the brace and bit on the rack for the small wood carving chisels and they aren't as straight as the new rack for the big chisels. I used a forstner bit in the drill press for that one. Not as much fun but the base of the hole was square.
