We don't have trees really, just millions and millions of rocks. Everytime I scrape it beings more to the surface.....would really love a way to actually pick them up but leave the dirt.

Gotta love bulk trash days in the neighborhoods. People throw stuff out that works out to be great free stuff for me haha. Couple extra screws and it's back in business as a baby goat house, oh wait so it's still just a "kid" house

Bulk trash day is coming up in our rental house's neighborhood soon too. Hopefully people throw out some good stuff

Oh, yea. I used to love that, we had spring and fall clean up weeks when I lived up north, the stuff people threw away just amazed me. The last time I did that I picked up 8 craftsman riding mowers and about a dozen different snow blowers for the week. They dont throw anything away around here.

Yes, same here but in the chicago suburbs everything was a throw away society, like you tho, here everyone scavages so you have to be quick to win.

Wow, can’t believe your apple tree is producing apples in mid June. Things are a lot different by me. Lol we’ve probably had less than a half dozen days anywhere near 70* so far this year.

Well yesterday was fun. I was coming off being sick for a day and by the end of the day I was whooped so I didn't have time or energy to post.
Woke up on our wedding anniversary to no water in the house! Yeah. That's fine with kids who as soon as they are told there is no water all of a sudden have to pee every 47 seconds. Wife packed up the kids and took them to the park and out to lunch.
Our well is shared and pumps to a 5k gallon holding tank and we draw from the tank not directly from the pump. We each have a pressure pump which supplies our houses. On the inlet side of the tank there is a shut off valve. I don't want to point fingers (but there are only two of us on this well) but somehow the inlet valve ended up closed. The tank has a float and will auto refill to stay full, the tank was calling for demand but the inlet valve was closed. Long story short I don't know when this happens but obviously it was days ago as we ran the tank dry, hence no water to the house.
Well the inlet valve was probably 20 year olds and a gate valve that had a pretty good leak anyways from the packing gone bad. So while the tank was pretty much empty, took the opportunity to replace that and make it a little easier to eyeball the valves off vs on status so I can keep an eye on it

I was impressed that the tank refilled all the way to shut-off in 5 hours. So happy to see the old gal is still flowing like 16.5 gallons a minute.

Yeah don’t the apples in WA get harvested in Sept? Glad it’s wet on your side of the state, maybe that will help with wildfires. It’s been wet and cold on my side too.

Went out this morning to see how everything was doing in this heat wave we have been having and noticed we are starting to see some blackberries! The heat is burning them pretty quick so don't know if any will make it to harvest.

The blackberries are doing the same thing here, there turning and drying out at the same time. I cant put enough water on them to win.

Literally by the afternoon those same ones will be brown and crispy. I do need to up the water again. I think I may go up to a 2 gallon per hour head on the drip line. It runs 1.3 hours every morning right now. So they would get 2-1/3ish gallons a day per plant, are you doing more than that?

I hand water right now so full throttle for about 5 minutes per plant. This ground is almost chirt/stone, there is about ½" of top soil in spots so growing quality plants ain't happening, I hope to dig some trenches and backfill with some quality soil in the future, then I can get serious. Most of the blackberries I pick are wild so they haven't seen rain in two weeks. Usually I can pick a couple of gallons of them when they start coming in.

Oh ok, so your doing maybe 3-4 gallons a minute at 5 minutes. So yea I think I need to up my water. Ours are all pot planted (with drain holes) but I still have to be careful not to let them stand in water either. Most of the plants have jumped the pots are are now growing in the ground all around the pots too.

I dug about two gallon size holes and planted 8 plants last year and really didnt expect any results but they made it, but I really dont like mowing around them in there present configuration, after they are done bearing this year I'm going to dig a straight line trench to replant them in and I will add a rubber mat with a 4" hole every 2' or so and a soaker hose so I can control them,
Like yours if they touch the ground they root and then I cant mow. I am hoping my neighbor will let me plant some of them in his pasture there is a creek there and I think nature would take care of the rest of it.

After the kids went to bed I dragged everything out of the garage, cleaned and reorganized. The storage side is starting to look better!

Comparatively though, you would laugh your *** off though if you saw the house garage or even parts of the house. It looks like a nuke, or two, went off!!!
I think the difference is, is that this is "my" space. With super young kids it's hard, rather nearly impossible to keep the house and garage always clean with all their toys, bikes, kid stuff, so this is my calm space lol. With limited shop time being only during naps, after bed time, I like to be able to find my stuff quickly and work efficiently since my time is limited.
For some odd reason the house garage also always somehow always looks like we live at the beach or in the middle of a sand dune.....the whole garage is literally rippled with sand like dirt.

My wife has the strict goal of, everything we plant will bear something. So lots of fruit and berries. We've been doing peppers, tomato, cucumbers, carrots, some other things like that. Really need to focus on the garden next. Trees are doing good! We have 13 fruit trees and plan to put in about 6/7 more soon.

Would ruin the "not actually a goal" we had on the farm of not having 2 vehicles of the same color. It allowed instructions like "Bring red up and leave at the east drive in the Old Home place and bring back the green semi" was a perfectly valid instruction and easier for all to understand than "bring up the 94 pickup and take back the 02 Freightliner"
The yard and crops are looking great! Kinda surprised with the amount of green stuff you're planting, my inlaws in Vegas have gotten rid of basically all the plants and grass at their place other than some palm trees...and the pool. Any water restrictions you have to follow or does the private well exempt you from that and just limit by the pain of the monthly bill?

The "grass* around the pool is actually fake, it's turf. We had real grass at our old house and no matter how much water I threw at it, it was always dead. Didn't want the maintenance or the waste of water again here so we went turf. Allows us to focus on the trees and garden not dealing with it.
No water restrictions being on the private well. I don't know if they could, not sure how they would enforce that ? The only cost associated with the well is the electricity to run the draw pump. I don't have an exact number because that pump is wired to the neighbors house panel so no way to really break down it's cost. There was never a house and anything on our land until us so the well was always just only the neighbors so it didn't matter. Per an agreement with the previous owner (a super cool dude) I just pay the neighbor $25 bucks a month. We are 50/50 on any repairs or maintenance which in 2.5 years so far we have just replaced that one leaky gate valve is all. I have a booster pump that is tied to my house and that's how we get our pressure. It's a variable speed on demand type pump so it only runs when there is flow so it's pretty efficient.
Makes sense to me and the time saved on the grass is a big help with the other demands on your time!
Had a love/dread relationship with the well at my acreage. Loved the monthly bill...dreaded the eventual hefty bill to fix to if anything went wrong. When I was selling they were working on a grant program to expand Rural Water service at a more affordable rate(was $22k back in 2008 to run 3/4 of a mile to hook me up which included 2 road and 1 creek crossing) and that to me was the ideal solution. Dual sourced water that coat a 40/month minimum fee/service charge for the rural and able to turn it on at any time if the well had mechanical or water quality issues.

Dual source would be nice! We have a 5k gallon tank, so if anything goes wrong with the pump we can haul water as necessary until it's fixed. We are in a pretty large aquifer and the pump is running strong it seems. When we replaced the gate valve we emptied the tank almost all the way and it filled to auto shut off, 5k gallons in right at 5 hours. So that draw pump is flowing almost 17 gallons a minute.
