Ok. Note to self and others. I started to put together the dust collection. I ordered several bags of the "thumb turn" worm gear clamps.......I hate them!! Just get the regular screw driver ones. The excess band end of the clamp sticks up rather than lays flat and in order to turn the thumb handle you have to hold down the band. Regular one, tighten with a drill in .3 seconds. Thumb turn, fumble and figure out how to hold down the band with one hand and tighten it with the other.......just annoying.

I really need to upgrade my DC. The half DC and half pitch fork method is getting old.

When I was looking at dust collectors I saw this on Bill Pentz’s website and it made me stomach the time and expense of putting in a good system.

“Most large woodworking facilities vent their dust collection systems outside, so fine dust exposure is limited. Even with venting outside woodworking generates so much unhealthy dust that insurance data for large facility woodworkers show fine dust causes all to lose about 1% of their respiratory capacity per year of work, all to have worsened age related health problems with shorter lifespans, one in seven to develop such bad allergic reactions they must stop woodworking, one in fourteen is forced into an early medical retirement, a few get poisoned, and a tiny number to develop nasal cancers. The medical research shows the higher and longer the fine dust exposure, and the more toxic the wood, the worse the damage. This should terrify small shop woodworkers. Most small shop woodworkers work more toxic woods. Worse, OSHA testing shows most small shops vent their dust collection systems inside which builds such dangerously high dust levels that most small shop woodworkers get more fine dust exposure in a few hours than large facility workers get in months of full-time work.”

I should be about 50% capacity..

@nicholam77 and @fouckhest

Ok....so I've used the saw hooked up to the DC for a few hours. Cut down some scrap and then started working on a DC hood for the radial arm saw.

I have to saw (lol, dad joke), I'm quite impressed! It's much quieter than I would have imagined. Even just left running between cuts for a measure and fence adjustment etc you really don't notice it. I don't know how to explain it, but the high pitched frequency of the shop vac bugs the everloving piss out me, this is a much lower tone and it's more "pleasant" if that makes any sense. It's something you could leave on for hours and not be annoyed......

The combination of the HF dust collector with the Oneida 4/5 super dust deputy captures an easy easy 95+%. Very pleased. After a few hours this is what was left to clean up. Virtually nothing on the floor and (just from ripping down sheets and also having a zero clearance blade guard thingy in the table) only a little got pushed into and stuck in the saw table track. You can see top left of the first picture what I didn't vacuum up before I started using it. Usually I would be spending 20 minutes shop vac'ing the whole floor. Not today my friend!

First use, I'm gonna go ahead and give it a 9/10 so far. Time will tell but I'm super happy already. 🤘

That’s great to hear! I may have to get a similar setup eventually.

I have one of those WEN ceiling air scrubbers, although I think mine is half the CFM as the one you linked, but I have a much smaller space. I’m happy with it. A lot of the lower end ones (WEN, Shopfox, Grizzly) etc are all the same rebadged units. The filters do fill up quickly, which shows they’re working, but kind of annoying to clean. I just vacuum them off instead of buying new ones all the time.

Obviously one step at a time, but if you want to upgrade the bag filter on the collector, I’ve heard good things about the Wynn filters.

Fully agree on the annoying high-pitched whine of shop vacs.

Thanks for sharing your review!

I’m not sure if your saw is the same as mine, but check the slots around the tilt mechanism. I used magnet sheet material to seal up those openings which improved performance.

I did notice a slight amount of dust on the floor in front of the saw where you stand and it did appear to be coming out of that gear slot. So great idea!!

This may or not be possible with your setup, but the shorter the flex hose the better. I cut mine down to 10' and move the DC from machine to machine. I tried longer (enough to reach everything and the airflow dropped significantly to the point it didn't make sense.

I am only about 6ft away from the radial arm which will be a run of "hard pipe" straight across wall and roughly 8-10ft away from the table saw. They will be on gates so flow will only be on one machine at a time. I tried to make everything as short as possible while "not" being mobile, mostly bc I'm lazy like that lol.

I received my next batch of parts so got another preliminary section assembled and mounted. I'm kind of building this as I go and make changes as I see it. I need to order a few more parts to make some tweaks, but pretty happy with how it's coming along. I'm just trying to keep it as "compact" as possible.

Ok, I got the last of my parts this afternoon and finished up the dust collection. I think it's pretty good and will do for the foreseeable future. I ran another hard line behind the tool boxes with a port under the radial saw. So now the table saw plugs into that port and it really minimizes the amount the flex hose laying around on the ground. The "dust pan" actually works surprisingly well also.

I was bored after the kids went to sleep so I made some cord holders for the radial arm and the table saw. These machines share a plug so I thought it would be nice to have a "labeled" place to hang the cords.

This is a very very hard, honest post boys. Boostingaz might need a user name change. We might not be Boosting"AZ" much longer. My heart is being pulled really hard for many many reasons. Me and Mrs Boost are struggling with what's next for us and the kids. Little possible hint........

We are still having many late night discussions about alot!!! of things.

This is just one of those things that I need to get off my chest somewhere/somehow as we have not really shared our potential plans with anyone yet.
