Beemer moved and second half of the gaarge vapour barriered ready for plasterboarding.

Also decided to put the garage clock up:

Is that a Festool Systainer I spy?

The lock repairer (actually he's an antique watch repairer - the watches are antique, not him!) texted me earlier to say it's all fixed. I hot-footed it down to his place and sure enough, he managed to repair the broken spring so the lock is working perfectly again. Eventually I'll re-fit it to the safe but not until it has been 'restored' to a more presentable condition.

Quick update. The locks for the two drawers in the bottom of the safe have been left with a lcoksmith to have some keys made.

All the plasterboarding and OSB walls are finished and painted. The workbench is done. Bench grinder and vice fitted in place. Some shelving has been assembled.

Today I gave one half of the floor it's first coat of paint. Instructions say to leave the first coat for 24hrs before applying the second. Once the second coat is done the floor has to be left for 48hrs before anything is placed on it. Then I'll move everything from the unpainted side to the painted side and do it all again.

If I have any paint left at the end I'll give the entrances an extra coat as they will get the most abuse.

I've also put a few signs and stuff up. Problems with the camera at the moment but will get some pics up as soon as ......

Just finished the second coat on the first half of the floor - now have to wait 48hrs before I can do anything else.

The white marks are just sunlight creeping in (doors yet to be properly sealed etc).

Not the best picture due to the lighting conditions but you get the idea....

Forgot to mention, my original plans for a laminate style flooring were scuppered by a lack of funds. The paint, including rollers etc comes out at around £50 all-in. Bit of a bargain really.

It's a polyeurathane (sp?) paint, supposedly heavy duty for use in factories etc. If it can cope with fork-lifts etc it should cope with my use.

Looking good. I hope the floor paint stands up well. Mine was water based from Do-It-All and has been a disappointment to me.

Given the level of insulation you have used, did you consider using structural insulated panels in the first place?

Moved everything over to the painted side the other day and swept all the dust out of the remaining half.

It's this stuff: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331145027978

Happy with the application process so far. Time will tell if it is resilient enough. Second coat went down this morning.

Still a few litres left so will probably give the entrances another coat in a day or so.

Looks like there's enough left to give the whole floor one more coat. So, 3rd coat put down on one half this morning. 3rd coat will go on other half tomorrow morning. Whole floor will then be left to 'cure' for a few days before any use.

its looking good now with the painting all done well done

Yep, I'm pretty pleased all round.

Floor looks great. Not a bad price too.

Great price. This morning I realised that there was enough paint left to give the entire floor another coat rather than just a 3rd coat on one half. So I cleared the garage as much as I could and put down a complete coat across the whole floor.

001_zps1b985f1d.jpg

So the left hand side now has 3 coats and the right side has 4. The right side will have most use and abuse so should hold out quite well. Had to move an engine crane first (you know how heavy they are) and even with the steel wheels it made no impression on the painted floor.

Still have some paint left over so the few spots I couldn't do today will be done later. For now the floor will be left to cure until Monday pm at the earliest.

Could I ask, what lights have you got fitted? I am going to be looking to fit out a new garage and there seams to a huge selection out there? :dunno:

I used a selection of second-hand lights plus a couple of new ones purchased and never used some years ago. Best find though was a box of 10 5' long batten fittings on eBay. All brand new for about £60 IIRC. I was able to collect them after work so saved on carriage. I used 2 in each of the four 'bays' plus two over the L shaped bench. Another 8 lights (6 x 5' and 2 x 8') complete the set-up.

The 10 are TL5 lamps, very small compared to what I'm used to but they give great light output.

You're not wrong! I'm already wondering how to get everything in there. I've already given notice on one of my lock-ups so have until the end of June to empty it!

Oh yeah, a friend and his wife popped over on Sunday to have a look. They both said it was much bigger than they thought it would be. This got me thinking so I dug out the tape measure. My garage is 30'x20', my house? 24'x19'. So my garage is bigger (footprint) than my house!:bounce::D

as it should be :) nice build

You really are moving along Baz.

When you make it to my place one day, I suspect there will be some ****, I mean treasures for you to upload for your garage.

The floor looks great, I am envious.

What light and some (white) paint can do.

It looks a lot bigger now, absolutely looking great :thumbup::thumbup:

Good job on the floor man.

BTW bazz you still have the Commer PB Highwayman Campervan?
Unfortunately not, the local council would not let me build the garage tall enough to house it so it was sold 3 years ago to help fund the garage.

The floors shows the dirt really quick! Should be easy enough to clean though.

When I do come over eventually I'll bring some plum tree with me to see if you can run me up a gear knob or two and maybe a fruit-bowl?

I can see no reason for me to do it. You are quite capable of doing it yourself.

Been a busy couple of weeks. Pics later but I now have almost all my spares and tools in the garage. I have completely cleared one of my rented lock-ups and will probably get rid of the other by the end of September.

Still got loads of stuff in the way at the moment which will be dealt with in due course.

A friend has offered me 56sqm of plastic garage floor tiles (second hand) for the princely sum of £25. They're apparently the same as these ones but lighter in colour:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111299821...eName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

It'll mean moving all the spares temporarily and moving shelving units etc to fit the tiles but should be worth it. The painted floor holds up well to tyres and nylon castors etc but anything metal tends to chip the paint - hence to move to plastic tiles (at a price I could not refuse).

Have you got enough spare Imp engines? I used to have an Imp and ended up changing the cylinder block.

The great thing about working of relatively small cars is you can get around them in the garage. When every I do work on my modern car I have to do it on the drive. So much easier working on my MGB in the garage.

Great to see this progress, really likeing the IMP.
Cheers! They're great little cars, way ahead of their time when they were first built.

Fingers crossed for you

Wow, looks great!
Thanks, looks a mess really!:lol_hitti

Six or seven - should be enough for now.

I destroyed two liners in one of my blocks, it'll be re-linered out to 1040cc in due course.

Spot on, even my 'big' classic is under 6 feet wide so will fit in nicely.

Imp looks at home in there. :)

First time he's been in a gareg in the 7 years I've had him!

Picked up the floor tiles today, I'll make a start on laying them tomorrow morning before work.

Also did a deal on another BMW E36 while bored at work.

It's a '95 320i Touring. Looks pretty clean, it's done 104,000 miles and has been recently serviced. Has 11 months MoT test left on it (annual safety check), good tyres and it's mine for just £450 (about $550-600). Will need a tow bar though.

Taking the train to Wales on Saturday to collect and drive it home. So my diesel Passat will be cleaned up and sold shortly.
