I got the call I've been waiting for. It's been a while but my Chrome for my floor jack is ready for pick up so after setting the base for the Phone booth I drove out to get it.
Here is where I've decided to plant the phone booth, next to the clock

Now about the Blackhawk jack. The chrome is home and where it needs to be shinny it is. Some of the chrome will be painted over so the shop didn't spend as much time on those areas. Only the arrow on the lift bar will be chrome, the rest will be red and the cover plate will be all red less the letters spelling BLACKHAWK. They will be chrome. (I'm hoping that it turns out well)

Damn, those parts look great, Don.
Gotta admit, it would kill me to scratch up the new chrome to apply paint over it! (Or do you have to? Is there some kind of primer that will adhere well without having to sand the chrome?)

It’s amazing to see how other minds work. I’m on the look out for a painted low rider, paint scenes amaze me
After Cobblers comment I started thinking and looking around the garage to see what I could do to make more space for treasures, and discovered that I had extra room not being taken advantage ofcurious , when you run out of room in the party garage, will you keep collecting?
So Today I started a new project inside the Big Party Garage
1. Hiding a couple of ugly posts
2. Making room for more treasures
3. improving the lighting under the parking area
With a couple new walls and a shelf between them I will have a place for a new collection or move over a crowded collection or move one collection so I can put something from the container back into the garage.

I'm reminded (a little) of how Peter Mullin concealed the modern posts in his excellent private museum in Oxnard for interwar French coachbuilt cars so they look a little more like fabricated and cast iron engineering from the 19th C. It'll be fun to see how you turn yours into display space.

This afternoon the project new shelf in the BPG looks much closer to being finished. After putting up the studs and figuring out where to put the Electric boxes for plugs, the plywood was cut and nailed onto the structure. Then I mounted the shelf hardware (angle iron and el brackets) before covering the plywood with paneling
Next came the shelf. I found a couple of laminated boards 14" wide and 20' long that would work well for the shelf. I wanted a shallow shelf along the side of the walls so I added a 2x10 plank to sit between the 2 wider boards. I cut the wide boards so they ran down the side of each wall and also covered some of the area between the 2 walls. So my shelf is 14" + 91/2" + 14" making it just short of 38" wide.
I tied the 3 boards together in the center of the shelf on the bottom side with a 1" angle iron to help stiffen up the unit.
After the shelf was screwed to the brackets I covered all surfaces with more paneling and started pinning the corner trim to all the corners and base board top and bottom.
Tomorrow I have a mobile sand blaster scheduled to work in the morning Then I hope to finish this project in the afternoon then I can get back to work on the Phone booth

The sand blaster arrived this morning and went to work on several pieces I had out for him and in a few hours he was ready to leave. Giving me a bunch of work, Taking care of the fresh exposed metal.
I've managed to get 5 of the pieces into the booth and primered tonight
A blackhawk tool box
An old mechanical curb jack
2 sides of the english phone booth (Man these things are heavy)
And pieces of an old street light pole that will make a couple of nice stands for future projects

I so badly want to start working on this Double rolling lubster now that it is cleaned up, but I'll just put it in primer and wait til I get that phone booth done before starting a new project.
And I've been wanting to restore a stand up spark plug cleaner for a few years too so I stuck one out in the field to help move one along
You can still read the print on the front panel if you look closely

All very nice. I'm with Bears Fan, I think it looks like fun!
But you have bitten off a chunk of work this time. Did you move ALL that stuff into your booth for priming? By any chance did you spray any of it outdoors? I don't know if you have the ability to do that and enough hose but some of that stuff is so damned heavy it'd be an effort to get it all in and back out again in a day. Can you prime over a couple days without worrying too much about flash rust?

Yes I can wait about a week without priming as long as the pieces are inside a building and not out in the weather.
I still have 3 pieces that didn't get primed but are inside the shop and some sitting in the booth
I'm headed to Tacoma in the morning to catch up with Jaberwaki to pick up a couple more treasures so I'll be busy next week. Should be home before Mothers day is over on Sunday

Be safe out on the road. Some DEFINITE kooks out there and the more I see of the news the more I know of it.
I mentioned that I was headed to Seattle at the end of last week. Well I left Thursday Morning and returned Saturday evening.
I visited with 3 GJ members along the way and each one contributed treasures for my trip.
I met Provincial On Friday morning and had a very nice visit getting to know each other and when it was time to go I had a Blackhawk tool for the Chevy board and an old wheel wrench. Thankyou Provincial
Next stop was with Drivesitfar. We had a nice quiet visit and a great Italian lunch just outside Tacoma. He surprised me with several nice treasures. starting with an old Blackhawk Red Rover box. Then 2 gorgeous Vices and an old blackhawk A29CD toolset
Last stop was with Jaberwoki
He loaded me up with 4 floor jacks 6 bottle jacks 2 alemite greaser tanks and an old lincoln welder that weighs a ton.
It was a very fun little road trip with new friends to enjoy

Those are some nice finds. The old Lincoln welder brings back some good memories. My daddy taught me to weld on one like that when I was 12 or 13 some 45 plus years ago.

Damn, Don! Saturday of the next week, right? Sheesh! I drove to Seattle last June to two home a 16ft enclosed trailer with my little Gladiator and spent a night in Oregon and I still felt like I was pushing it.

Don: if I would have not missed your PM I’m sure I would have had more to give you. I was happy when you called and gathered a few things and jumped in my old Honda so I could see you in person cause it’s been waaaay too long.
Next time you come up we’ll have to go to a 50’s diner for burgers and shakes which I totally forgot about til after you and your brother left.
Or just fly up with your bride and I’ll pick you up at airport and we’ll make you a home cooked meal or two or three.
It’s always great seeing you and chatting so keep above dirt another 20-30 years so we can do this a lot more.

Most of what I brought home was a surprise. I knew of a couple of jacks and a wrench. It was great meeting new friends and renewing friendship with Drives (he stopped by the garage a few years ago)
I too used a welder like that a hundred years ago John

Next I masked off the window area and covered all the holes so not to get overspray on the fresh paint

Then turned it over and painted the front side
Then pulled it out of the booth and ran the right side and the door panel in to the booth for primer.
While that was drying I sanded the back side of the back panel and when the primer on the other parts was dry I traded places with the back panel and painted it

The SJ-18 blackhawk floor jack is done (well almost) The lock in the handle needs serious attention
But she looks great.
I spend the entire day putting this project behind me. I'd guess that I had that jack handle on and off and on again too many times to count
