Sorry to hear about your wife. This might be a good time to say all those things you never dare to say to her as she can't catch you if you're running away.:dunno:

Waiting to see the painting equipment in action...................Maybe you can give Gerard a tip or two.

Update on not what's going on but some new additions to the shop. I've been working out the electric lift out front for sure.
I've added 2 Vidmars and a Lista cabinet in the last few weeks, along with a Craftsman vise.
Here's the first. A Vidmar shelf cabinet. It'll be replacing a storage cabinet that I'm using now, just another step to my overall scheme.

It's lighter than the drawer units for sure.its the same box as the drawers, I have a savage box that I plan on using some of the drawers as a shelf to have sliding shelves!
Vidmar number 2. Gerard found this listing in his town and I made a deal to have it dropped off there. It's a different drawer configuration that ive never come across. It's on caster and as a bonus , had a set of brand new casters inside.

The PO had a step on the front and here's Shorty trying it out .

The Lista is a CL find on the east coast and lucky me had to go over for a work meeting the next day. It's also a different drawer set up. One of the nicest condition boxes I've bought. I really like the shallow drawers on the top, wish it had a few more.

These will be gone through, bearings cleaned and lubed, boxes painted to match the others in shop.

I picked up a Vidmar for Shorty at the same place and met him at Gerard's to hand it off, a box for G and pickup my Yellow Vidmar .
Here's some of the conditions I had to endure just to get my box.

It was a rough day!!

Had a lot of fun with Shorty and Gerard, we always have a grand time. Going to Hooters is a requirement, like eye wash after looking at each other's mugs for hours.:lol_hitti:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

CB, thanks for having two out of five faces we can enjoy looking at. Shorty looks like he just died and went to Heaven.

The cabinets look awesome. Are those steal toed sandals Shorty is wearing while doing the tip test? OSHA approved ones?

Dan, I think those are Shorty's battery swapping shoes. The ER doctor can cut them off quickly.

Dan, I have to start remembering to sit on the outside of table, he gets all the good shots.

Dan/Bob, that's some funny stuff there. We were ready just in case it fell over on him.........had beer and Ready to get some good pictures. He would of been fine if it did though, cabinet is only about 66" tall, so it would of only cover about half of Shorty.:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

Well guys/gals, I've went and done it, again. Went back to the place that I bought the last one from ( the Lista) and picked up,the 14 drawer Vidmar that he had. This makes number 12, plus a Vidmar shelf unit.

b5278c8f790a2211fcc2c71952232cd9.jpg
It has plenty of dividers.
49d4b68b26e87e90836945cff9d78fea.jpg

This completes my Vidmar/Lista line up, I'll will only have one drawer unit that's not this style, everything else will be gone. So I actually freed up some floor space, that's my justification to myself.

I'm gearing up to clean and lube the bearings in all of them, some 500 plus bearings, not at once of course. I've been reading up on diffrent grades of grease and I'm trying the Super Lube syn grade 1 grease. Vidmar recommend Ultra Slick syn, which is a grade 2.I'll try that next. Can't really tell the difference between the two. My thought is to use a lite lube as its does operate better than a standard wheel bearing grease I used four years ago. I've seen the use of 3in1 oil by some guys whole deal with these day in out. What set me on this trek was the 13 Drawer I picked up for Shorty was very smooth operation and the bearings had grease, but a very lite grease.

Anyway, I'll update soon on that progress.

Another great addition to the shop and another layout change to come. I'm sure not envious of task ahead of you lubing up all those bearing and painting. In the end it another piece in your completed shop which is a good thing.

You are getting me all excited, my deal is getting closer, I am going to have to start a new thread for my shop, one that actually has some pictures.

I wish that 15 years ago I had started going with Listas or Vidmars, it would have made my life a lot easier!

Looks like G is getting a run for his money on the castor mileage :lol_hitti:

Nice looking cabinets though.

Are there any spray lubes you can use to speed up things?

Cheers GB

Calm down:eyecrazy:
I also wish I'd set up with these years back. I've had the 5 drawer Lista since the 80s and it was always the box that got all the heavy stuff.

I was trying to get G to join a caster club so he would get discounts on replacement wheels.

There is a product from Permatex, Ultra Lube, that Vidmar recommend, but it just dont seem to have enough product after spraying. I Guess I'm just old fashion about bearings having grease in them. I'm using a synthitic though.

The main thing about the bearings is getting the old dried out grease out, it actually has some of the bearings locked up.

I prefer to spend a little extra time now, cause I generally don't get back to it later::lol_hitti

Thanks for stopping by.

Here's a upcoming addition to the shop.
c5acbb8e8ddf0105dbfaa197b7eecec3.jpg

A Delta 15" drill press, variable speed although I'll be adding a VFD inverter as its a 3 phase motor. Plan on using it for the bigger holes in steel and with hole saws, with the VFD, I'll be able to slow the speed down. This will replace a DP that has a DC motor with a speed control. The VFDs today are very versatile.

The sad part, it was from yet another school wood shop being discontinued.

I'll post up some more pictures when I pick up. It's still being used!

Nice score! I am rewiring a 3 phase Powermatic with a VFD. I may have to pick your brain to get it done!

Love those Lista and Vidmar cabinets. I have been keeping my eye out locally for some for my new shop but they are hard to come by around here.

Great score and they appear to be in pretty good condition to boot.

Duker, please don't pick too hard, doesn't take too much to hit bottom:D

I used a Teco unit on my Rockwell lathe, it was pretty simple to do. I need to research what the latest and greatest units are. Nines just finished one up and there's the thread on the VFDs that has tons of info. But at any rate, I'll be happy to pass on anything I know.

There seems to of just been a run of them in Florida . I've been lucky on the condition and price.

Look into Govliquidation online site, they have these there, but does vary.

yeah Ive been trying to get some vidmars of listas, but Im too cheap. There have been a ton of them sold off in Jacksonville for surplus so I think they are making their way south, but still usually too much for me to pull the trigger.

If your wife catches a hooters girl in any part of your Barndominium, you be lucky to have a half of the memory of it:lol_hitti.

We'll keep posting on every page for you Strouty.

Better yet Strouty and Dan need to road trip it to Florida and we can show them the "scenery" in person. Duker better show up too... don't want him to lose half his place. Remember what happens in FL at Hooters stays here. LOL

Think they would be up for making a hooters/lista-vidmar calendar ?

Topic for the agenda at the next FC meeting perhaps ?

GB

Ahhhh, yes, great thought. It's summertime here now, 95 deg plus, humidity to almost match, sweat, sanding dust sticking to the sweat on various stages of undress, I mean unfinished boxes. The drips and smears of blue paint ( Rustoleum part number 153045) in contrast to orange and white. A group of them with all thier hands in my drawrs at same time, blue paint on the white tops. It's quick dry paint, so pictures on top of boxes with in hours.

Then, at the pool to cool off, maybe roll a couple of boxes over to pool.

I need to make a road trip to visit the Florida chapter. It has become very apparent that it is THE place to go to discuss Hooters... I mean tools.

LOL and you out in the shipping container right?

That's great, glad you're were able to snag it, welcome to the club! My Vidmar collection is getting infectious, I sold a drill press yesterday and the guy was looking at all of mine and wanted me to sell one! They can't be beat for what you can put in them, and $$$ wise, it's really no comparison to other boxes.

I might take you up on the sign. All I get from the other guys is hooters:lol_hitti
