Started checking out your garage thread, waiting to see that Wilton Universal Turret on that bench!

Can't wait to get it on the layout of the bench, this'll make four wood vises plus the Parker with the swivel bolt through the bench top.

If Fedex gets it here was spose to be here today, just got a update that'll it will be Monday.

Thanks again

Nice layout cb. I see the most important thing is covered. COLD BEER. And I noticed it's conveniently located not too far from the grill.

Before Shorty came down, he was looking over my layout and was concerned because he didn't see the fridge on it, so, I had to draw him a map to the beer!
I swear, I don't think he was coming over until he knew for sure where the beer was.:lol_hitti:beer::lol_hitti:beer:

Yes, it's close to the grill and works out nicley.

GB, that would be " shaking my head" , because I dared not to use his version of the plan:lol_hitti

I guess I offened the prez of the Florida Chapter, so he'll probably try to make me paint his garage or something:lol_hitti:lol_hitti:beer:

I never thought about that... Garage work for offending the Prez. I like it! Ok, Well I do need the Wall of Craftsman painted. I'll download requirements from the paint Nazi ( cough cough) I mean Shortie and get back to you. By that time maybe Andy will be back and see if he taking the Wall of Craftsman or not. LOL

It's all a figment of your imagination:lol_hitti

The keyword was "try".

I was thinking more of "something", like going back to Hooters and getting her to wear the shirt rather than just hold it up!:beer:

Just wanted to show a little addition to the shop. I bought this Wilton turret wood vise from Blue Bolt. I never have came across or even heard of one before he posted up on the vise thread. I just had to have one and he was kind enough to sell one to me.

It'll be mounted on the wood bench to be built, makes vise number 5 on this bench.

That's one neat little vise...

1/2 cup, this is one that I'll be mounting to the steel frame with a 2-5/8" thick maple top. Ive gone back and forth on using a steel plate like you did on yours, I'll have clear wood to mount to but may use a plate the flips away from the edge to give a clean wood front if needed.

Thanks for stopping in.

I had to test mount the vise on the bench, this is one really neat little vise. You can use it in any of the positions, turn it sideways for long vertical pieces, it has a small pipe jaw that's cast into the jaws. I see this being one handy vise.

Far from giving up:lol_hitti, all G done was cut a 3" pipe for drill press:lol_hitti and dream about something called paint.

Just been busy with family, we lost our Mom a few weeks back and been working on all the stuff that goes along with that and my brother and I have the estate to clear up.

Had to put down one of the dogs yesterday due to bone cancer, we made her comfortable for her last two months.

Another dog had a stroke the week mom passed, goes in for a check up today and will possibly have to make a call on her.
So, the only real thing I've done is to open shop, open beer bottle, sit down and ponder life:beer:
We're doing ok considering.
Going through my parents house is like opening a 50 year time capsule.

Just all a part of life.
Thanks for stopping in.

Well guys, while I'm on the subject of my parents house, my childhood home, I thought I'd share some photos of the shop I grew up with. My dad had a hydraulic repair company and he built a 28'x40' with 12' ceiling cbs shop to work out of. The company grew so fast, he outgrew the home shop before he could finish. So it became my playground and his home shop.

It was a nice building to grow up in, spent a lot of time there, learned to weld, rebuild engines and so on. It set the stage in my mind that I had to always have a shop of my own, it was a right!

I'll never forget when pouring the slab I asked why 6" thick ( I was in the 4th or 5 th grade then), my dads friend said its because he wanted to work on locomotives in there, a way of harassing my dad on his overbuilding ways.

I'll get some pictures of the inside next time I'm back, it's just used as storage now.

Not only did I learn to weld and other mechanical things, I had my first beer in there, secrectley handed off to me by dad. I sat it on a shelf inside while helping with yard work.

Had my first major drunk in there a few years later. Parents were out of town, grandma was watching me and brother. Dad said it'd be ok to have a few beers with my friend after we finished my chore list to do. Well, I set out to do the chores and two brothers from down the block came over, caring a six pack, let's go n your garage to drink these they said. We went out to get more beer, It was in the late 70's or so, you could buy anything at the corner store, and my best friend makes it there and goes out to get more. Oh, riding our bikes then.

We were having a blast inside, drinking away, then the two brothers started getting sick, then after a while we were all puking in the garbage cans.then it happened, the two brothers mother found us all there, and she was a very religious lady and was convinced that my best friend and I influenced and pushed the beers on her boys, so by the end of the day, I was the official heathen for the block:lol_hitti.

My poor grandmother, she didn't want to come and stay there, I convinced her to come over as I would of been bored at her house.

Anyway, that garage holds a lot of memories for me.

Is that property staying in the family? It sounds as if it should from the memories, but reality doesn't always allow.

No, we need to sell it. It's over in the Miami area, way too congested for my taste. I would live to have it, but it's just not in the cards. My brother lives in the next county over, but it wouldn't work for him either.

We knew this day would come, Im just enjoying sharing these memories with my friends, hey, it's shop related!

Nope just haven't had much shop time with travel and hurricanes.

Craig, hope all goes well with the estate. Good idea to get current pictures of your Dad's shop. One day when you get in Gerard condition, you'll have something to stare at and help keep the memories alive.

Craig, sorry to hear about your losses. I don't know why but my bad stuff comes in 3-packs and it sounds like you filled yours as well. My mother passed away 8 years ago and I'm still sorting her treasures. I'm just lucky she lived in a condo.

Thanks guys.
We'll be going through her stuff for a while. One thing that we decided right away is that every folder, paper would have to gone through very carefully, as things just pop up where you wouldn't expect.

One drawback of her staying in the house that a family of four lived in, and then her being there by herself for a fair amount of years is... Space, all that space. I guess she's getting back at me for the years I didn't clean my room.:lol_hitti.

We purged the shop a few years back after dad passed, but still a lot to do. I have a lot of the things that matter to me, after my brother takes what he wants, there be some sales going on.

Craig, sorry to hear what you're going through. It sounds like you've got it together as best as possible. One thing no one can ever steal from you are your memories.
Take care friend and I hope I get a chance to come down there this winter and meet up with you guys. I have to get Shorty's lift up and running and Gerard seems to need a painter for a few days. I haven't found out what you need yet other than to have someone that'll sit a drink a few beers with you and STS.

Having a beer and STS is about it, plain old good company:beer:, well, that and I still need to change those 16 spark plugs:lol_hitti:lol_hitti.

He needs a shop layout and someone to make it reality.:bounce:

What I think Craig needs is a group of us FC people to come down there and just get **** done. I mean help move stuff where it needs and help sort some things. And I mean not moving stuff into the back of your truck Shorty. I'm also well familiar with well I'll just sit down and have a beer and stare at the walls. I'm thinking if we start at eight or nine in the morning and call it a day about 2 or 3 we could accomplish a lot. Then beers and ribs and all get leave by 5. I think it's doable?

3 -4 hours would be huge, ribs and beer are a givin here. I have it set up to where I can work in shop and cook ribs at the same time. Most of the time I just drink beer while watching ribs cook:beer::beer:
I just have my wife control the chairs and slap anyone staring, myself included.

I still need to finish a couple of frames before the big move to be effective.

We'll work around your schedule, we all need to finally all get together at the same time. We need to plan it for cooler weather so we don't end up fighting for the front of the fan space.:lol_hitti

Guys, I appriciate the offers of help, cause I know it's genuine and will really happen if we set in motion, and I will. Right now for me it's just another weave through life, I'm content with knowing I have a plan and it'll happen in time.
What really appeals to me is the time hanging out with the general shop banter ( otherwise known as serious technical bullshitting) good drinks and food. Having any of you come by and hang is the best of all.

OK, a lot of you have asked what I needed in this time I'm going through, I did tell two of you that a big chested female ( human) for me rub all the stress out of my head, but nothing yet!:lol_hitti:evil:

PS: Gerard, Andrew and Shorty, somehow you all have gained my wife's approval.
Dan, I know you will!
It'd be super if you could start at Shortys, hit Gerard's and Andrews on the way down and end up finish off here!

Fannie Mae is going to be pissed that you're dissing her.

As far as wife's approval, Andrew and I have cute smiles, Gerard paid her to say that. :lol_hitti

Looking forward to the Great Garage Getr Done Gathering.

Hey is there anyway to postpone this for a few months? I'd like to actually be there having a beer with you guys instead of sending a picture of me having one in Maine while you're all sitting around enjoying each others company. I'm not 100% yet but I really hope I can come down in Jan,-Feb. and hang out for a day or two with at least a couple of you guys. Have paint brush, will travel. And cb, we can get the plugs changed while I'm there. We might be smart to let Bob handle the grill seeing that he won't be distracted by beer. I'm thinking at this point that the wife doesn't seem to want to join me for that trip.:dunno: I guess that's her loss and my gain as I won't have to behave as much as I do when she's watching and telling me I've had too many and we need to go back to the hotel room and not embarrass our hosts.:eek: I'll let you guys tell me it's time to catch a taxi and see you later.:argue:

Sorry, My place, my duty to cook for the forces, but I welcome Bob cmannimg it with me while the rest of you attempt to get me straight:beer:, that way Bob won't embarass any of you in the performance area.:lol_hitti

Dan, you don't need a reason of a work day to come by, at the rate I'm going and a tidbit of news I recieved today, I may accelerate trips to moms and use up some vac time, so that time may not be so far fetched . At any rate, we'll always will plan to gather if you come down. You won't embarass yourselves around here , I way ahead in that dept.
Sounds like we have the same wife!:lol_hitti

Gerard, I'd be happy to work the grill. Unfortunately my good friend and neighbor who is also my co-driver, has put his house up for sale. He and his wife are moving to Delaware to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

I can drive wearing sunglasses in daylight but my "good" eye is FUBAR and next to useless at night. The eye is locked in the fully dilated state (like when you have the drops for an eye exam) so I am blinded by headlights at night or dusk. The other eye is fine except for being permanently turned in. I'm therefore blessed with double vision when both eyes are open.

I would be leaving at 3:30 or about the time you guys plan to start cooking. I like rare or near raw beef and even eat raw fish but I suspect rare ribs would be a no-go.

Bob, we'll adjust and have lunch so you can head back well fed. We'll just have to work a little faster.:lol_hitti
