Hey Buttercup, how’s the AC?

Sent from my iPhone using Garage Journal

It’s cool!!!!!

We’re getting users the sound of the unit when it’s running. I call it the sound of coolness.

One other benefit is we don’t have to worry about leaks in the ceiling from condensate water anymore.
I tried to keep up with checking, but out of site outta mind.

Now there’s a tee with a cap right on the unit that we can open to check and to pour bleach into once in a while.

A little addition to the shop. Picked up a 1/4 ton Yale electric chain hoist. It’s really light and easy to hang just about anywhere.

5191b24f4a02256fb6f65a03470122f1.jpg

I bought with using to pick up a larger rotary table for the mill, but being so versatile, it’ll get used just about anywhere in the shop.

In the picture, the 1/4 ton is hanging on my 1/2 ton hoist under the porch roof, so now I have 3/4 ton lifting capacity!!!

Actually, the 1/2 ton doesn’t know it’s just a 1/2 ton, it picked up the mill which is about 1700-1800 lbs.

The Yale, I’m sure it’d stall out, but it is a older model.

Just don’t tell it that it is a half ton, things could get a bit awkward. The Yale must be part of a union, they always stop at the rated limits. ;)

Shorty wouldn’t look good in that outfit. If only Tampa was still around, I am sure he could come up with some pics of one of his ladies in that outfit. ;)

Well after installing 1,100 SF of vinyl plank flooring, removing almost as much Pergo, I have a lot of respect for women that spend their working life on their knees!

We had two different Pergo laminate and sheet vinyl in the main part of our house, most put down in the 90s. We (the wife mainly) wanted one style/color throughout the house. While it’s basically one continuous open area, there was three openings to pass through and hoping the planks interlocked on the other side, as we didn’t want to use transition strips between the areas.

The app is being a pain with pictures.

Here’s a few to show new planking.

Planking is done, need to install quarter round molding on all the baseboards.

I spent the entire week on my knees and not one tip!!!!

On to some shop stuff.

I’m off till Jan 4, so after making the wife happy with house stuff, it’s out to the shop.

I’ve been pretty pathetic about bolting down my vises and having a abundance of c clamps laying around hasn’t helped, I finally mounted one that’s been clamped to it’s base.
bf5bc62853fba006fd8e2fb05e9679d0.jpg
I did add a second clamp so the one mounting would be stressed.

Borrowed the mag drill from work to make quick drilling of the 1/2” plate.

Used my Gearwrench ratcheting tap holder for the first time.
dfc9fe53018d57e55211ee94bf8612d8.jpg
As soon as pressed down on it to get tap started, it spit a retaining ring out at me.
e9e005172a52c464fd75ac994767ee87.jpg
I had another ratchet, so I moved on with the tapping. This tool really makes it nice and a breeze to do.

Here’s the beast booted down.
b37934532dac729cdf1d584d636c12d5.jpg

I figured I’ve pressed my luck long enough and was lucky not to break one of the mounting feet off.

I’m starting a modification of my hydraulic press and will need a solid vise working on that project.

I’m fixing to throw this damn GJ app in the scrap bin.
Been trying to post up pics of the doings here, so if these come through, I’ll catch up with a better description later, seeing that I wrote up and lost it screwing around with pics.

Well....
I’m modifying a 50 ton press with a longer dual acting ram. It’s been sitting behind the shop and I needed to move under the porch.

Since my buddy from Tally didn’t want to drive for 5 hours to help me, I had to wing it by myself.

I laid it over ( it tried to lay me over), clamped a couple of casters on one end, chained it up to cart on the other, making me a press trailer. Now if the shop was cleared out, I could of just wheeled it through the shop on a hand cart, but I wanted to start this year yet!
Made it to porch area
6d231dc404cc4202c789bf5eac531d35.jpg
The PO had welded 12” channel to the base of press, raising it up to a nice working height for me, but I didn’t care for the cobbled together look and there was a2x6” tube cross brace that they pressed against and gave it a high point.
So off it came.

64d1dc730dd32a8f2dfc70c1e691758d.jpg
I washed the welds off the original frame legs, a little grinding will clean it right up.
2e69bd49eabe5101f570a41259847133.jpg
Bent cross brace
23f18eadf2351eb0bfc11cd7c28b3412.jpg

Today I’ll finish laying out the height of the cylinder in relation to the table height. My current plan is to place the cylinder so the ram stroke will get to the table height but keep cylinder body as high as possible to leave plenty clear open height.
I have 13-1/2” of stroke to play with.

I also have a swag off road press brake to use on this, so some factoring will go into this.

It seems to be working now. It’s great and easy, for some reason it started screwing up on me.

I deleted tapatalk, deleted and reinstalled the GJ app, still getting errors on uploading.
I rebooted the phone and seemed to help it. We’ll see.

Thanks for stopping by.

I am a fan of Tapatalk, easy to see multiple forums at the same time. Wish they had a desktop version, that would be cool.

It probably wasn’t anything to do with Taptalk, it’s just lately when posting pictures on the GJ app, this TT window pops up making me move photos from phone to the TT album, before I could upload right from my phone album, I havnt figured out why this is? Any idea on the TT album?
Thanks

I tried the GG app and I didn’t like it due to the picture uploads, so i deleted it and went back to TT. TT seems to be the best way to host pictures out of all things I have tried.

I cut the 1”x8” flat bar for the new cylinder mount. My band saw is only good up to 6”, so it’s a job for the cut off wheels.
Craptin told me about the Benchmark cut off wheels, bought a couple packs and they do seem to cut pretty good.
I was able to cut the flat bar and still have a fair amount of a 6” wheel left.

Hole Layout for the cylinder pins.

I cut a opening in the header for the new mount. I didn’t realize the bottom plate of the header is actually a piece of 8” channel.

cc295c729c3703e3d961ade6bc154275.jpg
I don’t know what I was thinking when I started to cut out the bottom with a torch instead of a cut wheel, brain fart I guess.

The bottom channel is pushed up some, I’ll pull it back down flush and it’ll get welded to the mount to tie everything together.

So, my Christmas present was to a non running motor on my drill press we I went to use. I’m hoping it’s just a start cap, but I was lucky to have a 1/2 HP on the shelf, so I just did a quick swap.

Drilling a 1-1/8” hole will choke this motor down as compared to the 1 HP.
9d446cf936bf3c6eb40b695c2903a0bd.jpg

I need to order a 1-1/4” bit or see if I can figure out setting up the boring bar on the mill to open up the hole to fit the pin.
