I have been playing with your idea and would like to get a Husky floor wall cabinet. I would put my 4 drawer tool cart next to the work bench and then put the cabinet next to the cart. It would just barely clear the attic ladder and would limit walking space around the front of my truck. Decisions Decisions.

The husky floor cabinets aren't that deep which i love and is one reason i went that route. The amount of items they can hold though will solve a several storage issues. I also loved the fact that they have two different widths available. Mine is the 32". But you are right, decisions, decisions, play with the layout and see what "could" work....

Will do. My dad has a small cabinet that would be perfect but would require paint and new handles, it may be a fun little project but I like the idea of new.

What do you think of putting the 32" on caster wheels? I think it might be a little wobbly.

Thanks!

I liked the outdoor light I installed a couple weeks ago and decided the other side needed one. I had to run some new wire to it and cut a hole. I am glad I didn't hit a joist or something, I double measured and my stud finder went through the dense siding.

Maybe tonight ill get a solid night pic.

Chad,
Are you going to do anything with the floor?
Paint or free flow tiles.

I would like to do a epoxy or an industrial floor paint but man is it expensive and a pain. I think the tiles look the best and are the easiest to install but they are really expensive.

Looks great Chad, congrats! Sorry for not getting back to you about the feet. I was embarrassed that i couldn't get a good look at the bottom and couldn't remember from install.

Thanks and no problem! I did allot of measuring and it fits perfect and I can still use my ladder.

After a ton of decisions and dealing with dealers we finally got a new car, seems like forever, gotta make the wife happy. The car replaced a old Toyota Corolla. We decided on the Volkswagen Jetta TDI. It is a great car for around town and gets 45 mpg diesel on the highway. The only thing that concerns me is the maintenance. I try to do all my vehicle maintenance. I have an auto mechanic certificate for taking auto tech for a few years but have never really messed with a german car so ill have some learning to do.

Congrats, Chad! Those are nice cars. Just don't let Dubber convince you to "slam it"!

Hahaha. Yes his stock definitely went up! Now just have to help bring his car down to the ground..... Muhuhuhahhaha!

Thanks! Haha I sense some tension between ya'll.

Definitely like the shelving and top wood idea.

Thanks, It is pretty economical because you get a workbench and shelving storage all in one.

Looking very good! Happy wife, happy life! And the nice vehicle should help her stay happy....

Thanks, true, I think she will be happy for a long time.

Love the new VW! I was Fox and Jetta man years ago and liked the new Passat at the Chicago Auto show this weekend. Cabinet looks great too - is it on wheels? I've got the same issue with the attic door and it just clears my upper Gladiator cabinets.

I am not really a car guy but I love driving that Jetta. I am really glad I opted for the Diesel engine. We have been averaging around 40 in town and 50 on the highway.

The cabinet is not on wheels although I might put it on wheels in the future so I can put it where my main tool box is.

I dont know why they put the door there, I guess they were thinking you could pull it down without moving a car.

/\ With that awkward door opening i think you have developed the perfect layout to make that area work well.

Glad your enjoying the diesel! I'm at 500 kms on my current tank and still over half full!

With that kind of mileage I just may have to pick up another Jetta. I'm thinking that once my son starts driving I will give him my Highlander and I can get another VW.

Dubber I agree - that work area works well despite the attic door location. Nice job Chad.

Thanks guys. I think the garage turned out pretty good but I couldn't have done it without getting ideas from garage journal.

That Jetta is the spitting image of my wife's petrol, manual Jetta (except the steering wheel is on the other side....). She loves it. Gets great mileage, is supercharged and turbocharged (though I don't think she's ever really bothered the turbo). Got it paint treated, and window tinted at the dealer all on 0.5% finance. Great deal.

I see some speeding tickets in the future with that supercharger+turbo, I guess as far as engine dynamics go thats the best of both worlds.

Yea I had to do some googling. First i've heard of that.

Chad- Is she enjoying the car thus far?

She is loving it. Normally I am the designated driver but since we got the Jetta she wont let me drive unless we drive the Tacoma. If cars had feelings the Tacoma is glad to have a shinny companion but I bet its jealous.

I am finally getting around to adding some much needed details. I added a back board to the workbench. Now I will sand out some bad places on my bench top and add a fresh coat of poly to the back board and bench top.

I have been playing around with the idea of painting the wood trim around the pegboard a dark grey to match the Husky cabinets. Any suggestions, leave it or paint it?

I also have something in the mail from my first ebay purchase in the form of a 1963 snap-on hand carry tool box. I am thinking this will be nice to stuff tools into when traveling and doing handyman work.
