Try to tell my son that. He's afraid he'll catch some kind of disability, like not being able to leave an inviting statement alone.

Glad you like it. They had to be big enough to cast and see the lettering. About 1/2" thick and 6" long. They are actually 12 mm thick.

I poured another one this morning to test pattern modifications. This one pulled better but still had some sand damage so I made some more refinements.

Looks great Andy. Steve would be proud.

Thanks Glen! The improvement with the arithmetic seems subtle but when it makes a visible difference it is gratifying.

Started on a match plate today. Orders are up to 14 so maybe we'll have some to make yet.

With a match plate I need a new spin trap pattern. Once I glue it on I can't use it for other jobs.

Made a new feed riser for the same reason.

Made a board to fit in my flask I altered to take a cheek. Then laid out the patterns on it.

Drew outlines around the cope side patterns. Drilled lineup holes for the reverse. Found the center of the feed riser.

Drilled that last hole and flipped the board, lined up the primary pattern and drew the outline. Then placed the drag patterns, including 3D printed recessed words.

Drew those outlines.

Carefully offset a fence and routed grooves for the 3D printing.

Letter patterns set in nicely. They are flush.

This will make the lettering engraved in the back of the emblem.

Continuing with the match plate. Drilled mounting holes for the feed riser and the spin trap.

Located everything then drilled for a pin to set the sprue on. The sprue will have to pull from the top so it can't be glued to the match plate.

Cope side ready to go.

If it helps, I believe you can get object volume and object surface area calculated in Fusion360 and add them in as a workspace template so you have them for all your 3D print designs. Not that I mind breaking out the piece of paper and pencil every now and then. Good to have a little mental lubricant every now and then.

You aren't fooling me Don. I see the stuff you do. I keep trying to figure out when you are painting over tape and when you aren't. You sure get that little bit of logic figured out before you ever strip and prime.

The majority of my casting is from wooden patterns or original parts. I'm concerned Fusion360 will give me the wrong answer. For instance, the face of the QST could actually have double the area of the projection. 5mm away from the face the sand has no idea the lettering is there. All the heat loss is fuzzy at that point, and the time to cool is based on heat loss. I would not model an Acme thread screw as a thread but as a cylinder to estimate the surface area for cooling. Cooling fins work great in air and other fluids, not so much in non fluid media. Even in air the wrong cooling fin design can act as an insulator. So in this case I believe sloppy math is the most accurate.

I've been busy, and away travelling to inter state branches, and stuff..... But on your thread people are talking about "donations". I can't find the specific post, so please enlighten me, and I'll willingly donate (as a cancer survivor it just tugs at my heart).

I also have one of Steve's Ford signs that he cut out. And I'm going to get a framer to put that together with your forging, and Gazza's sign and put that up somewhere. I only met Steve once, but it was a great afternoon. And we had many long conversations on the phone (especially after he was first diagnosed and the treatment meant he was losing his voice, which, with my chemo enhanced deafness, made the calls very interesting).

The only other things I have mounted are signed things from great racing car drivers - Jackie Stewart, Mark Webber, and some Australian Supercar drivers etc, and my Grandfather's war medals and badges (and a pencil drawing of him), but this will be joining them.
