Thanks, Herb.

Sorry, I cried like a cranky old man. Very quietly but it's hard to stop when it hits. It kinda wakes up all the losses and brings them back to the forefront. Poor little mouse drowned before he could finish his treat.

Don't be sorry Bob. Be glad you have humanity and can shed tears because you love.

Sorry 'bout your mouse. Was he wireless?

Andy good to have you back. Not surprised to see how many pages I have had to turn after only a few days of not visiting. It has taken great restraint for me not to pick up the phone. Hospice is incredible. We sat with my dad for his last three weeks without leaving his home but the help and support they gave us, and sharing in your loss, has brought tears to my eyes. We are all truly connected in a special way. Too bad most of us have to get old to realize it. You have just completed your finest build. It took half a lifetime, but what tools you have acquired in this testament to love. Bobby

You've got my number Bobby. But I'm having trouble keeping up with my thread. And I thought by now I'd catch up with everybody else. Oh well, life goes on.

Thanks for the kind words.

Very nice tribute for Sharon. Thank you for sharing. Bless your family.

Thank you, Shorty. Funny I'm missing 1/2 Cup more than ever. I'm getting in the traveling mood. Watch out Florida!!

Well.......

...........ermmmm.

Chatted with Andy on the farm last night.

At 08.45 USA time he sent a pic from Denver CO .........

And it is not yet where he is headed.

2020 !!!

Road Trip....

Offered him some socks and advice.

Roll on

Lets see where he has dinner tonight.

That picture is actually Tulsa at 05:30 ready to board a flight.

Andy: I logged on for a quick look at GJ last night and saw you made your first and second post as ANDY MARTIN then I think they disappeared. then posts came up later as OLDIRONFARMER and I knew the world was right again.

WELL it is SATURDAY so why not take a little trip.

our door is open, but not sure I have a spot other than the couch cause our daughter and her 4 cats are here for another month until she moves into her new home. that said i'd be happy to meet you for a meal if you are close to us.

SAFE TRAVELS and guessing you are going someplace cold with 2 suitcases cause all you'd need to go to Florida with is your bikini.

BTW remember we know you as OLDIRONFARMER, but we all love ANDY so log on as you are able and we always enjoy your good words.

Thanks, Drives. I may be headed your way soon.

Damn, Andy is on the move. Wonder if he's heading to Southern California???

Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk

Andrew, you are clairvoyant.

Reading through the last few pages brought tears to my eyes a couple times. Thank you for sharing Andy. It feels good to read your words again and I'd imagine it feels good to share your world with us again. I know we are all ready when you are for whatever adventures your life brings us through your camera and keyboard !!

Thank you. So much. You helped me continue my shop time as Sharon got worse by helping with cell phone coverage in the shop. My deepest gratitude.

Lets see who has figured this out yet.

What happened between early morning today and now?

Other than 1900 miles.

Our man on the run.

And the prize for today.

What next??

2010 FJ Cruiser in my favorite color. 99,880 miles. Looks like new. And they aren't making any more of them. My 2006 already has 129,000 miles.

Thanks for the help Rian. Sure made life easy on me!

ANDY: glad you made your winter drive from the west coast back to home safely especially since you were driving a used (new to you) car AND in the middle of winter.

i'm not sure if you saw any of my posts while you were on the road, but it was fun following you down the Oregon Coast that i know pretty well.

summers are the best up here in July and August and sometimes September and if you want to fly in i'm only 8 minutes from our big airport and I'm sure I can find someplace to find a meal. I don't have a fancy VETTE, but depending on when you come my bride has been talking about getting a new car for a few years now to replace her 2005 Honda Crv SE that won't die.

nice to see you posting your own words, but it was kind of fun watching you get information to GRIZZ and he'd post in his words and add a few links of his own.

hoping all was well when you returned and it sure looks like Hershey was happy to see you.

CHEERS!!

It was fun to watch your trip Andy. If you happen to find yourself over on this side of the states again I'd be honored to share a meal with you. I'd offer accommodations but we're full up! Located 40 minutes north of Portland.

Also, I hate to be the one to break this to you, but Toyotas aren't quite like cows...you can park them in the same driveway together, but you're not going to get a Corolla come springtime. :D

He's coming to your house!

Bre

Your house? No, I was trying to get to my house.

He's in Oregon and bought a Toyota?

:headscrat

Are they for sale anywhere else? While looking around we found what we wanted in Florida and Oregon. One of the Florida cars was a scam, and Oregon had the best price/shape/drive home but I did want to see Bob.

Best wishes Andy.

Thanks, Jim!

Andy: i'm 2 hours north if you care to take a drive in your new rig. I don't have an extra bed cause my daughter and her 4 cats are in the guest room, but i'm more than happy to buy you some PNW salmon or a steak. OR if you only had time for a quick trip cause you have to get back to the critters i hope you have a safe and pleasant drive cause i'm guessing you will run into a lot of snow and maybe wind going thru Wyoming and the Rockies.

OR if you have time head west about an hour to see the Oregon Coast and Cannon Beach is a great spot to stay.

take care!!

I missed this post in time, Drives. We thought about driving north but had a long way to go and a short time to get there. We were loaded up and trucking, so to speak.

Andy, so glad to see you back and looking forward to many more pages of your wit and wisdom.

2019 saw two close family friends pass on, so I too am looking forward to 2020.

2019 was tough on me. So half wit and half wisdom?

I was so confused, I thought New Mexico, then the second photo I thought Washington, then find out you are in Oregon. I've never been the the PNW but it is on my short list eventually. Enjoy the new twin, can't be too many people with two yellow Land Cruisers.

JB

Thanks, JB. It was Rian's idea to be cryptic and it seems to have been a lot of fun. Now I need a third for a spare.:bounce:

Andy: or maybe since your grandson loves buying used cars maybe you both flew out and one of those bags is his and he's taking the picture?

AND you'll have a fun road trip back. if you might need a few suggestions for hotels and places to eat just ask cause my bride and I found a few when we drove back to Missouri a couple years ago. we drove thru Boise, Salt Lake City, Loveland, Co, ...

cheers and really nice to see that smile!!

Hmm. Not my grandson.

There were McDonald's and Taco Bells' everywhere so we ate very well.

Enjoy the trip Andy! I know you will, good choice on the Pendelton-can't go wrong on that one.

Actually I was just in front of the Pendelton sign to give a hint of Portland. I've never actually owned any of their products.

Well.....

Day 2 on this trip.

I am sure Andy will fill in the gaps.

Later.

Woke up with an 8 hour time difference compared to our usual 6 hour difference to consider when chatting daily.

Wake up view.

After breakfast

Star of the trip.

Not shy

Clues.......

On the road

Clueless.....

Someone has to have an idea.

I certainly don’t have any idea.

Safe Travels Mate.

The car turned out to be better than expected. I did buy a serpentine belt just in case and planned to change it at a shop later.

Haystack Rock, Cannon Beach Oregon.
Pete

:bounce:

I wasn't sure but recently added Google image search and there it was.

EDIT: Not sure of the destination but it's certainly the long way to get to my house.

Long way Bob! Maybe I can find my next yellow FJ in Miami.

Really happy to see you in good spirits and out and about again. Just watched your Chevelle video too.

See you managed to find another yellow FJ and off to a fantastic roadtrip. Looking forward to your updates and your antics Andy.

Happy new year too!

Thanks, Eugene!

Traveling north on the Oregon Coast.
I miss the stormy weather, have fun and stay safe!

We had plenty of weather. Not our favorite but just right in this location!

Looks more like Chief Kiawanda Rock to me, but I've never been there, just a little google ninja training.

JB

Hmm, just big rocks in the ocean to me. We kept saying we didn't think we were in Kansas anymore.

Washington State and possibly through to Alaska. Clues are the rock in the ocean, St. Helens auto, and the Land Cruiser to have 4 wheels. My two cents. Bobby

:thumbup::bounce:

Great idea Andy to get out and see the beauty our country has to offer.

More distance.

Looks like a baby on it’s back .

And that’s all I know.

Your guess is as good as mine.

.

What beautiful country!

Rian, this must be Where in the World Is Andy Sandiego. Gargle image search recognized Cape Meares light so Andy is traveling north on the Oregon coast. Not real fast because it's a 50-mile drive from Roads End OR to the Cape Meares light. Looks like Andy is not headed to Crater Lake National Park, which was a possibility with the 4-wheel drive but they've closed the rim drive for the winter (sometimes the park's winter ends in July). Alaska makes sense but 2,400 miles of snowy roads just to get to Fairbanks might be a little stressful.

Really had not thought about going north in the winter. I need you as a travel agent.

Andy's going to be an ice road trucker … woohoo let the drama begin!!!

Found me out!!:pimpflash

ANDY & ALL: looks like you maybe were thinking about driving down the oregon coast (yep I'm pretty sure he's traveling south) and to me it's maybe some of the nicest views in the world. also fairly quiet little towns.

that light house is i'm pretty sure in Tillamook (think cheese) or about 20 minutes west of that town if you want to be particular. that cheese factory used to be one of my favorite stops cause it was the only place Tillamook would sell it's root beer float ice cream so 3 scoops of mixed or separated vanilla and root beer on a waffle cone usually was my meal for that day.

not sure Andy is looking at this thread, but Lincoln City has a little restaurant just at the north end of town that has the best marion berry cobbler and some pretty good breakfasts and lunches. Wild Flower is the name of the restaurant. a great place to hang your hat is the Spanish Inn and email me or PM me for some details. lower floors are on the beach and you can lay in bed or sit in a chair and have a great view of some nice big waves.

I'm guessing Andy maybe isn't going to chance driving back over the rockies in January so maybe he's headed to Los Angeles and going along the south of the USA so he can keep his tan in shape and maybe see Don Long?

anyway safe travels old buddy and hope you have a fun trip.

cheers

Great advice, Drives! We did stay in Lincoln City and enjoyed a fine meal at McDonald's there. Then we headed north a short way and stopped at Oceanside and viewed the three arches while eating. Then on north to Cape Mears and turned south for good.

US 101 Southbound...
Try the Harbor Light Restaurant in Reedsport, if you're not already past it.
Safe Travels, Andy!

Thanks!

More action

And finally for those with a juvenile sense of humour.

Just got this pic minutes ago from Andy.

More as it comes in.

:bounce:

ANDY & ALL: I named the town Tillicum after it's cheese factory long ago (Tillamook) so my bad, but i've been to that lighthouse on a cold foggy day and those tall cliffs to the side of it are like they are above the clouds some days.

Andy if you have time the river (jet) boats going up the Rogue River out of Gold Beach are a fun day, but guessing they only go up river during the summer. it's a 100 mile round trip for about a benjamin that takes about 8 hours and you'd see bears, eagles, lots of deer and other critters and LOTS OF TREES.

EDIT: speaking of trees even if you've seen the REDWOODS of Northern California it's always a treat to see those monsters. the Trees of Mystery has a few of the biggest ones in the world so worth a stop if you have time if weather is ok. they also added a tram that takes you to the top of the mountain and over the top of the Redwoods which actually let me know i'm getting afraid of heights. never was cause maybe I thought I was IMORTAL, but surely as I get older some things do change.

stay safe

GRIZZ: thanks again for being the MIDDLE MAN so to speak cause the pics and information are great.

You named the town? Wow!!

We had a time learning to pronounce Tillicum.

Rian done good! I was too busy driving to check GJ.

The picture sequence of Roads End, Oretown and Cape Meares Light fooled me into thinking Andy was headed north. The Yaquina Bay Bridge is south of all that so he's heading down the coast. It's a beautiful drive and I look forward to seeing more.

Very nice work, Bob.

Thanks to your detective skills I kinda know what it going on now.
I was in the dark for a while.
Thanks Bob and Drives for the help.
Also thanks Rian for the updates.
Thanks to Andy for an interesting trip log via internet to the U.K. and back. What a time we live in.

Vince

What fun. And the maps on our phones kept us on track. Switching to satellite view is great to find out what is over the hill.

Making me grin there Vince.

Yup....
Who’d a thunk it.

Technology

Love it.

:bounce:

Not me for sure. I'm still amazed by the radio and blown away by TV now we have radio, TV, and a camera in a cell phone.

My wife just retired, Nov. 30, 2019 and bought a 2019 Honda CR-V as a retirement gift for herself. She has been driving a 2004 CR-V we bought in 2006.

We go to the library and check out books and books on CD. She got a book on CD to listen to in her new CR-V. Then we realized her new car does'nt have CD player. Everything is blue tooth or WIFI.

She likes the back up camera and the other new to us technology on this car.

Vince

I do like backup cameras. CD's are so old school, Vince.

Rian

I nearly had a heart attack when I saw that bridge pic. I thought he must have arrived here already.....

He did threaten to call in! Then I realized our “coat hanger” is much bigger than the one in the pic.

I trust & hope he’s enjoying himself.

I'll give you fair warning. But privately, as my travel agent likes to reveal as we go. Certainly the harbor bridge is much larger if not more picturesque.

RealVC: your story is so close to mine and my bride's it's scary. we bought our 2005 Honda CR-V SE in 2005 and it's got 183,000 on it now. I'd like to buy a new 2020 Honda CR-V, but since it's my bride's car she's been looking at the Accord RDX and now we are looking at electric cars more and Volvo has our eyes and ears cause it might be our last new car cause we may have flying cars in 2040 the next time we buy one.

Andy & ALL: was that the bridge going south from Newport? the Oregon Coast is a very scenic ride and there are only a few spots that are high up like near the Sea Lion Caves and maybe another one that I can't recall. hopefully the other drivers are paying attention cause if we had 30mph winds and driving rain today i'm guessing that maybe it was a bit worse out next to the ocean.

enjoy your trip and thanks for at least sending Rian pictures and some information cause it's like we are driving with you.

cheers and hope you enjoyed your SATURDAY!!

We did stop at the Sea Lion cave and it was great. Heavy seas and lots of sea lions coming and going.

I'm having a blast reviewing the trip!

HI, Andy! Sitting here at work eating lunch and going back through your thread since Christmas was so enjoyable. I cried a few tears after your chronicle of Sharon. My Dad seemed much more relaxed when we brought hospice in. Unfortunately, I could not be there in person, at home caring for our sons, but I was on the phone for a few hours doing a face talk which he seemed to enjoy.

So good to see you made it home safely after what looked to be an enjoyable trip! Brought back many memories of a similar trip I made solo by motorcycle in June, 1972, leaving from western Nebraska to Denver to buy a new Triumph , then off to Calgary, Vancouver, San Diego, Phoenix,
New Mexico, Denver ( where I sold the bike back to the dealer I bought it from for almost as much as I paid for it; then he looked at the odometer), picking up my 1966 Chevelle from my cousin's home and driving it back to Gering, NE. Grateful you got a lot of pics, as I took none. Thanks for sharing your ride, every step of the way!

Not sure how much progress this is but pretty certain Andy is taking in the sights.

Looks a bit breezy there too.

You're right Rian. Progress was a bit spotty. But we finally got that ironed out and started making time.

Andy & ALL: I was pretty sure the Oregon Coast would be looking like that cause we had almost 3 inches of rain up here yesterday. this is usually the time of year we head down to sit in a room and chill and watch the waves and de compress from city life.

Andy since you are maybe taking in more than a few lighthouses i bet you are taking more than few minutes to watch the waves. how big are they?

for those of you that didn't know the Oregon Coast had huge waves the surfing might be better than in California except water is colder. in fact I think those guys that follow those 40+ foot waves around the world used to have a contest this time of year in January off of Lincoln City. i'm not a surfer so i'm not sure why they don't surf there any longer, but I think I heard one of the promoters who was a surfer or maybe a few of the surfers that were able to surf those big ones found death too early in their lives (if anybody knows why either post or PM me).

normally in summer the waves are less than 10 foot and more in the 3-5 foot range. here's a view from one of the rooms we like to stay in and watch maybe January of 2018.

Andy stay safe and hope the roads don't have any landslides or bad drivers to avoid or spoil your adventure. you should be seeing the big Redwoods soon if you aren't there already.

enjoy your saturday

Waves looked to be about six feet unless there was a strong breeze.

Fortunately we only saw one really bad driver and he was driving our car. Still didn't spoil the fun.

The redwoods were fantastic.

Cue Willie Nelson.

That’s it guys.

Just marvelous scenery!

I did this trip many years ago and still reminisce about it. Enjoy Andy!

Thanks! No real schedule and we did enjoy!

Andy: looks like you are in the Redwoods or at least getting close and maybe still driving down the coastline. I'm not very familiar with California's coastline just like I don't know much about Washington's (not many towns or resorts in our state on the beach).

so I've heard the road south of San Francisco on Highway 1 is maybe not for anyone that has any height issues so your call on taking it or going over to I-5 and then cutting over at Monterey which is on our TO DO LIST for a trip soon. I drove the 17 mile drive there 45 years ago with a friend and still remember it as a great view even if I wasn't a golfer and Pebble Beach or Cypress Point weren't there.

drive safe and hope your weather gets better as you work your way south.

safe travels buddy.

I don't really have any height issues as I'm about 5' 11". I had driven south from San Francisco a few years ago to past Half Moon Bay. After going to Muir Woods (one of my favorite spots on the earth) crossing the Golden Gate Bridge and driving through downtown SF in the evening we stayed in Sunnyvale. The next morning we headed west to San Gregorio. The road over the mountains through La Honda was great. Weather was fine once we hit California.

Well, I guess it's official, then. Andy's the big cheese! :)

I can cut it!:lol_hitti

This has to be a new level of GJ. You’ve made such an impression on the members that they post FOR you. I’d do the same, enjoy the journey!

They just feel sorry for me and want to keep my thread from going stale. Or is that bread from going stale. I'm confused, no bread in the thread. Where were we?:headscrat

Friendships have a way of doing that sort of thing.

Anyone interested in where the Yellow Peril spent last night?

A friend in need is a friend in deed and Rian proved he could do the deed when I was in need.

Tell me! Tell me!:bounce::bounce::bounce:

OK Don, winner winner, chicken dinner. Have fun with Andy!

They did have fun with me. Poked me and laughed at me. I felt so used.

The overlook for the bridge is placed just right. We got there too late and had to take pictures in the approaching gloom. Stayed too long at Muir woods, but what a place. At least my fifth trip there. When I would fly to SF for business I would try to get away a few hours to bask in the solitude of the big trees older than our nation. Puts things in perspective.

Bear with me guys, I'm having a great time reliving the trip.

ANDY: thanks again for taking the time to comment on all our posts and it was fun following along with you on your trip. And it's even as much or more fun the second time as you write good words from your chair at home.

you've been using WE a lot so did you bring along a son to help with the driving and conversation on your adventure?

Hey it's SATURDAY and I bet you've already fed the cows and given Hershey a rub. snow on the ground here for at least another morning and i'm already tired of it, but it should be gone soon as temps warm up.

have a great day and we can see that you are smiling by reading your posts.

AW man my wife and I want to see the redwoods bad. Maybe this summer it will all come together. Flying out and buying a car to drive back is a unique way to go about it though.

Seen the triplet to you yellow toys in stilly yesterday. Made me think about you.

Thanks, Rian! Lighthouses have their unique appeal.

Looks like you're seeing a lot of great sights, Andy!

It was astounding what all we saw in a short time. Great memories.

This photo made me really smile, enjoy the sights Andy and crew.

JB

Thanks, JB. My eyes got tired looking all the time.

Andy: is that the TREES OF MYSTERY where you are walking down trails in that Redwood forest?

looks like you are making nice progress down the coast. if it was me i'd head down Highway #1 even though i'm a bit scared of heights now, but if I had my bride along we'd head down I-5 for a bit and then cut over at Monterey. I heard it takes a few days to see all the Hearst Castle's offerings in case you are headed that way and i've never been and only seen pics of it on TV which looked pretty amazing.

I haven't been south of Oregon or north of Malibu on the coast for about 50 years so looking forward to more pictures and maybe a few good words from our silent host or maybe just a lot more pictures.

safe travels and looks like you are making nice progress with that new yellow 4 wheelin machine.

I can't remember, Drives, too much stuff to think about.

Drives, my guess is Muir Woods National Monument, a few hundred miles south.

Oh, yeah, Bob. That's it, Muir Woods. One of my favorite places on earth. How did you know, Bob? Were you hiding in the back seat all along? Couldn't be, I didn't smell anything.:bounce:

My money is still that a certain "Party Garage" in Southern California will get a visit.

Good call Bob, spot on, been there, done that. Truely impressive.

Andy,so glad to see you out and about, travel is good for the mind.:)

Rian, thanks for keeping us all up to date with Andy's wanderings.

Steve

Thanks, Steve! I have a Christmas present I need to get a picture of. It will be a real picture taking session, not just a drill.

Hi Andy,

I had been catching up on the forum over the last few nights when I read the sad news. Just want to let you know I am thinking of you and wish you much strength.

And to Rian and JB, thanks for posting the updates while Andy finds his way.

GB.

Thank you GB. It was a tough experience I really didn't need. However life goes on and Sharon was always one to want me to be happy. So I am following her silent wishes.

Rian has done good. JB, well, umm, hmmm, oh, HI JB! Good to see you!!

Caption that.

This was actually taken many years ago at a blowhard convention.

Priceless!

That's what you think. He doesn't advertise his admission fees.

ALL: I had a hunch. when I sent Don a text to see if he knew Andy was on our side of the world since I hadn't seen him post in a week or so he informed me the wheels were in motion (litterly).

although it was a little hard to stay quiet while you all had your guesses i'm very happy they are now together. that isn't an easy drive down the coast and in January the road around here are usually wet and it's pouring rain or worse icy and snowing.

WELL DONE ANDY!!!!

to be a fly on the wall with you two in a garage would be something.

have fun and doesn't it seem like SATURDAY.

Bob: :thumbup
and thanks for the Muir Monument tip cause I hadn't heard (or remembered that place just north of the Golden Gate Bridge)

GRIZZ: you've done a great job being the middle man for Andy and I thank you for making his trip a part of ours.

Thanks for the kind words, Drives!

Don is the star of his big PARTY GARAGE! Although it is a wonderful place, without him it would just be an interesting museum.

There was this fly. :shocking:

Andy, I was hiding in the pine cones. I've been hiding under this pile of sugar pine cones in Sequoia National park since 1955. That's why you didn't smell me. At first I was disappointed that the giant Sequoias had such small cones -- then I found these.

Tym, for $15 I sure hope you picked that up, if nothing else everyone needs a short saw.

JB
I left it behind. Was distracted by the lovely lady accompanying me. Also, I'm pretty sure it's a plastic handle riveted to the blade and those can loosen up with time. For small saws, I have a couple of those old 4-way keyhole saw frames that I just put fresh blades on.

I like the way you shop for cars Andy! A matching set of yellow FJ's too. You must really like them.

They are popular here but hideously expensive. A local down the road has 3 of them. One of which is in long term storage and driven every few months to keep it going. He must like them too. Though he prefers the orange ones. I even offered to take the light blue one he has as a daily driver to solve that problem but he already has 2 buyers waiting when he is ready to sell it.

I didn't realize they were that popular.

How can you pass up a lighthouse?

Looks like you're seeing a lot of great sights, Andy!

Thank you. Marvelous trip!

This photo made me really smile, enjoy the sights Andy and crew.

JB

Thanks, JB. Muir Woods is one of my favorite places. It's an humbling place. When I used to meet with Bechtel in SF and could get away for a couple of hours I'd head to the woods.

In spite of Don's recommendation we skipped Hearst's Castle so we'd have time for the King's Big Party Garage.

Drives, my guess is Muir Woods National Monument, a few hundred miles south.

You're a smart guy Bob. But as you well know, being a smart alec does not pay as well as it should.

My money is still that a certain "Party Garage" in Southern California will get a visit.

Spot on, Andrew.

Good call Bob, spot on, been there, done that. Truely impressive.

Andy,so glad to see you out and about, travel is good for the mind.:)

Rian, thanks for keeping us all up to date with Andy's wanderings.

Steve

Rian really worked hard for us, I never thought I'd say these words, but I appreciate him.

Hi Andy,

I had been catching up on the forum over the last few nights when I read the sad news. Just want to let you know I am thinking of you and wish you much strength.

And to Rian and JB, thanks for posting the updates while Andy finds his way.

GB.

Thanks, mate. Today is February 5th and I had a good cry. I'm doing well, have great days and bad minutes. I sold all my cattle a few days ago so I could travel. I'm missing them too.

Caption that.

I'm trying hard to gain some weight so I can measure up.

Priceless!

As in no value? Come on, Bob, you're a tough brother.

You OK, Drives? I saw Don swat something...

Can you see the Yellow Peril yet??

Aaaahhhh.

Close enough now?

What great fun to have my car on Don's lift. We were going to replace the serpentine belt because it had looked bad when I bought the car and picked up a belt and tools for the drive. In the light in his shop it looked good so we skipped that task and just checked out the car.

Don knows his cars, I can tell you.

Evidence of a great road trip.

Thanks, Bret. We have an awesome country. Of course so do many other people.

Looks like Andy is taking road trip to compair with a Rian/Grizz road trip.

Way to go Andy, glad to see you out and about on such a cool trip.
Enjoy your self to the max.

Vince

No holding back on this trip, Vince. We even got Don to buy our meals.:bounce::bounce::bounce:

Andy good to see you out and about. It is good time to be in Southern California. Better than ice and snow.

Dwight

It was marvelous weather. I've lived in the Mojave Desert and in Orange County. We had a chilly morning which was perfect.

It's true Old Iron Farmer was spotted in So. Ca. at the party garage

He called me a few days ago and said he was planing a trip driving down the west coast and asked if I were up for a visit.
He showed up just before noon on Thursday and we spent the entire day wandering around the yard, the garage and my shop. We went to dinner Thursday evening then spent the rest of the evening sharing old life stories. He spent the night and this morning we pulled the Toyota into the shop and gave it a full inspection.

2020-01-10 08.10.29 by don long, on Flickr

We went to breakfast together then he headed off to continue his road trip

He said that the ride in my corvette was great!!!

What a great host! What a great hostess!! What a great time!!!

The Corvette is fantastic but the ride was a little short. I almost had the passenger window crank off for a souvenir when we got back. That would have been so cool!

What a great update of our traveling Andy.
Sounds like a real nice time for you both and for the fans of "The Old Iron Farmer".
Thanks

Vince

Thanks Vince. Would you be available for lunch when we head east?

Girls are waiting

Did anybody identify that as Vegas? Or did what happened in Vegas actually stay there?

The new bridge gives you quite a perspective of the Hoover Dam.

I knew exactly where you were from that dam picture. It's a spectacular view from the new bridge they built because of 9-11 They give tours down into the dam I was just there not too long ago

Looks like a picture that belongs on the wall of my wood wrights shop!

You've got to plug that hole in the wall with something, Bobby! See you soon!

Early morning.

Remember this song??

.

Yup.

Guess who is there

Note the Yellow Peril hidden in the background

So the road trip continues

Unabated.

I've got a video to post from a corner (no, not a coroner) Winslow when I get the chance.

Thanks, Vladimir! Just how far are you from Paris?

Such a cool photo, the songs not bad either.

Thanks for posting Rian, can i just ask, Is this the way to Amarillo ?

Steve:beer:

:bounce::bounce::bounce:

Another long day.

Chilly outside too

Long way to go still.

Never got tired on this trip!

Answer just above Steve.

Nothing but semis and wide open spaces outside of Tucumcari New Mexico

I never actually met Cary.

Andy: I just looked at the map and you are making great time on the road in that new (to you) yellow machine. i've never driven east of Phoenix on the highways down in that part of the USA, but I did fly to Albuquerque and spend a few days there with my family and found Sante Fe was a nice place to spend a day.

My caboose is a Santa Fe, you know.
so maybe sleeping back in your own bed tomorrow evening?

did you avoid snow and bad weather or have more than your share of wind and some snow taking that road home? from the pics it looks like summer down there.

hope you enjoyed your Saturday and even though today is a rest day I bet you'll make the best of it getting back home.

No wind after we got away from the PNW and no snow. We got lucky. Flagstaff is high in the mountains and there was snow on the ground but only a few slick spots to try out the four wheel drive. Yes, they will all spin at once.:headscrat

Andy

Oh Andy! I'm so jealous. A trip down the Pacific Coast Highway, The giant sequoia trees, a stop at "The Big Party Garage" and then the Hoover Dam, you are living my bucket list

The Big Party Garage was the highlight of the trip. Those big trees are pretty cool too.

I need to make a "kick my bucket list".

Progressively starting to look familiar

A hundred miles from home. FJ has another 2,500+ miles on it. Sounds like a perfect test drive.

We actually hit just over 3,000 miles by the time we got to the airport to get FJ Yellow #1 and then home.

Sitting here grinning at the trip Bob.

We do behave like kids, but I would not change it.

My traveling companion complains I'm 17 years old, but still enjoys the wild rides.

He made pretty good time after leaving my house.
We had a great visit and cemented a growing friendship.
Nice to know he made it home safely

Don

You know a real friend when you first meet. Thanks, Don.

Great trip, Andy!
Glad you made it home safe and sound.
..and thanks to Rian for the BBC travel documentary!

Rian carried the load and drove a surprising part of the way. I thank him for his effort.

Andy and Don. Two Gentlemen. As for captioning it how could you say anything else?

Thank you Simon.

And so it ends.

Of course this is not the end.

Double trouble?

Yellow Perils times two.

And possibly the photo I had in my mind the last two weeks.

A truer and more loyal friend than a dog is hard to find.

This is how most of us feel about Andy once we get to meet him.

Good to see that you made it home Andy.

For those wondering.

Excluding plane trip and ferrying to to Tulsa.

Actual trip mileage 2,972.

.

When we finally got the pair together it was great fun. It is such fun going down the road seeing the other one either in front or behind you.

Yesterday we took the new one to buy more keys. Since the keys and car have to be programmed we drove both. When we walked into the dealer a service manager came up laughing:

'We were excited to see two yellow FJ's pull in and then we realized they are together. Very cool!'

Looks like you had a great trip Andy. Glad you made it home safely.

Great trip, home safely. That's a perfect pair!

That is a great trip and one worth doing. Glad it all worked out for you and you got to see the world famous Party Garage.

JB

Looking back over the pictures reminds us of the fun we had. Sensory overload.

I'll have to tell you the Big Party Garage pales next to it's creator.

Great trip Andy. Glad to have you back.

Thanks, Bobby!

Welcome Home Andy!!!!!
Glad to see you're back home with your new ride.

Vince

Thanks, Vince

Looks like you had a great trip Andy. Good to see you out and about..

Mike

Thanks, Mike!

Daylight brings another perspective

And thats a wrap.

Not sure any of the fans are happy to see the rear end of this trip.

Thanks for the memories Andy.

Thanks, Rian. We just had to swing by the house grab some more cash.

Amazing.

Thank you Shorty!

ANDY: glad you made your winter drive from the west coast back to home safely especially since you were driving a used (new to you) car AND in the middle of winter.

I've driven junkers all my life. I suppose if I could afford new ones I'd buy them but I get lucky.
i'm not sure if you saw any of my posts while you were on the road, but it was fun following you down the Oregon Coast that i know pretty well.

summers are the best up here in July and August and sometimes September and if you want to fly in i'm only 8 minutes from our big airport and I'm sure I can find someplace to find a meal. I don't have a fancy VETTE, but depending on when you come my bride has been talking about getting a new car for a few years now to replace her 2005 Honda Crv SE that won't die.

Old Hondas never die, they just find new owners.

When I can afford another car I might just come see you. Have you seen the prices of those round trip tickets? Two times as much as a regular ticket.
nice to see you posting your own words, but it was kind of fun watching you get information to GRIZZ and he'd post in his words and add a few links of his own.

hoping all was well when you returned and it sure looks like Hershey was happy to see you.

CHEERS!!

Thanks Mason! All was well and Hershey gave me a licker tape parade!

I've always toyed with the idea of a fleet. Farmall tractors are cheaper than FJ Cruisers, though.

Now that's just dumb, having a fleet of old tractors. Get a life!

Hmm...wonder if he saw Kim Novak and Jimmy Steward there? ;)

I was looking for their footprints and when I looked up I got very dizzy. The world was spinning. All I saw was the profile of a fat man before I passed out.

It was fun to watch your trip Andy. If you happen to find yourself over on this side of the states again I'd be honored to share a meal with you. I'd offer accommodations but we're full up! Located 40 minutes north of Portland.

I accept your offer! I'm coming back with a group! We were in St. Helens but didn't see you.
Also, I hate to be the one to break this to you, but Toyotas aren't quite like cows...you can park them in the same driveway together, but you're not going to get a Corolla come springtime. :D

Are you sure about that? I used to have one.

Welcome back Andy!
Pete

Thanks, Pete!

Looks like a very fun trip.

Fun-R-Us.

Thank you very much. I am so glad we could all be there.

What a trip you had!

We would have taken no pictures except Rian was bugging us night and day for more and more pictures. He never stops. He's a good friend. He really likes for us to send him pictures!:pimpflash

I don't post a lot, but following your trip, as documented through Rian was a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing.

It really was fun. Footloose and 17! Can't be beat!!:bounce:

By all means continue. Trip seemed to brighten your spirits....or you had spirits on the trip. Any ho, we’re enjoying your trip (even if we weren’t invited. [emoji12])

You were invited, just a no show like usual. We needed a Safety Director.

ANDY: thanks again for taking the time to comment on all our posts and it was fun following along with you on your trip. And it's even as much or more fun the second time as you write good words from your chair at home.

Sometimes I write standing.
you've been using WE a lot so did you bring along a son to help with the driving and conversation on your adventure?

No, three would have been a crowd. And I do all the driving.:bounce::bounce:
Hey it's SATURDAY and I bet you've already fed the cows and given Hershey a rub. snow on the ground here for at least another morning and i'm already tired of it, but it should be gone soon as temps warm up.

have a great day and we can see that you are smiling by reading your posts.

cheers

We've only had one snow and no wind since we got back. It lasted 147 minutes.

AW man my wife and I want to see the redwoods bad. Maybe this summer it will all come together. Flying out and buying a car to drive back is a unique way to go about it though.

Seen the triplet to you yellow toys in stilly yesterday. Made me think about you.

Glen

Hey Glen!! I haven't forgotten your dog's monument. Bear with me.

We had such fun. I'm looking for #3. I'd like to have one to rig up as a lifted offroad monster.

Wow, ditto on wanting to checkout those redwoods some day. Beautiful. Especially on a quiet weekday, all alone.

You can't check them out. Sorry. they insist on keeping them there.

Andy: it feels like we're back on the road again (isn't there a song here somewhere) and more to come as we travel from the Party Garage back home.

enjoy your Saturday!!

cheers

That song gives me the Willies.

Wish we could do a year long tour from one garage to another...but the pics and commentaries help fill the void.

Hey! Terrick!! I've got to get over to your place and see the progress. Is all the glass in yet? That's the last time I was by.

I'm practicing standing on my head and when I think I can tolerate the blood rush to my head I'm booking a flight to take a small driveabout.

Andy, I was hiding in the pine cones. I've been hiding under this pile of sugar pine cones in Sequoia National park since 1955. That's why you didn't smell me. At first I was disappointed that the giant Sequoias had such small cones -- then I found these.
attachment.php

I guess that explains it, Bob. You need to get the Deep Woods Off of you.

I was browsing in a vintage shop today and this made me think of our handy host.

I actually had someone send me a Handy Andy tool set a while back.

My apologies to whomever it was. I have a very good memory it's just not very long.

The little tool set is great, however.

Tym, for $15 I sure hope you picked that up, if nothing else everyone needs a short saw.

JB

I could use a few more, the saws don't last very long.

I left it behind. Was distracted by the lovely lady accompanying me. Also, I'm pretty sure it's a plastic handle riveted to the blade and those can loosen up with time. For small saws, I have a couple of those old 4-way keyhole saw frames that I just put fresh blades on.

Cool!

They are not cheap here but still affordable. Get 'em while you can!

I'm glad to see that I am not the only handsome man on this forum..

I seen you drive by and thought that was you..;)

lg
no neat sig line

Well, Larry, it sounds like we're in a group of three, and maybe four if we let Bob in. Liane says he was quite handsome 68 years ago.

Are you really sure you want in this group?

Hey Andy, hows it going? The new Toyota treating you good? Hope your doing ok.. take it easy my friend..

I won't backpedal on Toyotas. No problems at all. buying used and tripping 3,000 miles is a good test. Both of the cars and how foolish I am. I passed!!

I didn't realize they were that popular.

Ssssshhh!!!

Andy
I knew exactly where you were from that dam picture. It's a spectacular view from the new bridge they built because of 9-11 They give tours down into the dam I was just there not too long ago

Dam picture from the dam bridge on a fine dam viewing day!!

Andy, great to hear from you. Have found any problems with the new to you vehicle since you made it home?

Dwight

No issues yet. It appears to be pristine except we have to keep putting gasoline into it.

Hey Andy,
Yes I would be glad and honored to have lunch with you on your trip East.
