The "Quality Shed Time" castings were very consistent but I made 80 or so of them, and used a match plate so every mold was consistent.

I still appreciate mine every time I have some QST in the tin shed.

The previous casting session included some brass hex to make punches or pipe ******* from.
I love making stock.:willy_nil

And the Spot emblem. Spot hasn't seen it. I'm waiting until she learns to read.

And the reducer for the 32. The old radiator has a 1-1/4" outlet and the engine has a 1-1/2" inlet.

attachment.php

Design Process

We wanted to paint the wire wheels on the 32. They were a little chipped and had a few loose spokes. My friend had read about a rotisserie to turn wheels about 6 rpm to paint and leave it turning while drying to help avoid drips. How to hold four wheels and paint both sides while turning?

First idea was adjustable arms which can be used to bolt through lug holes since they don't really need paint.

attachment.php

This was refined to four sharp ended bolts which can be screwed out to hold the wheel on the hub flange. Also an area where paint is less necessary.

attachment.php

Maybe three, and a quick scan of the junk around the shop indicated a 3-1/2" minimum diameter would work for most wheels.

And a sample clamp pin.

it looks like your noggin is working again on all cylinders!!

great design work on the wheel turning machine and you'll have to let us know how it works.

BTW Bellingham gets a lot more rain than we do here in South Seattle cause we have the Olympic mountains blocking our area somewhat while taking a ton of the rain coming from the Pacific. yep we all hope we can land and live where we like and it's good to have a few choices too. if my bride was willing to move back to Southern California or maybe Arizona i'd be happy to live there from October to April and here April to October and it would maybe be close to 65-90 every day without much rain.

I think I missed who SPOT is so i'll have to read back and find out or maybe i'll see if I stick around and keep reading.

40's and cloudy here today and ZERO wind.

cheers

Shorty: they're better be some pretty nice stuff under those bikinis if I was to sit and endure 100+ mph winds, but you seem to survive so still hoping you will again as more come thru.

Wire wheels? It may be overblown for steel wheels.

Interesting the lower rainfall in Seattle. That would be nice.

So in the middle of fun and frolic I had made floor boards to replace rotted and missing boards in an old house. Here's the patch job.

In order to use a bicycle sprocket to drive the wheel rotisserie I had to machine and thread a hub to fit the pipe on the I.D. and screw into the sprocket.

Along the way I was working on the 1932 Chevy. The aftermarket ignition switch was in a hole which was too large for it and the bezel would not tighten down to hold it securely. I made a reducing bushing only to find the switch hit the rear of the speedometer housing. What I needed was an offset bushing with a locating boss on the front to match the bezel and a boss on the back to match the dash opening. Just drilling an offset hole didn't seem like it would work. I'd never been up against this issue and didn't want to put on my four jaw chuck so solved it by putting a chunk of aluminum under one jaw. It took less material than I expected at first. Drilled and turned a boss quickly.

Here's the rotisserie complete. I made a little YouTube video to show it in action.

I love the wheel painting rotisserie.
I saw one a once where the wheels were setup on individual axle points and a simple cord was used as a belt to turn them all at the same speed. worked great I thought and pretty easy and cheap.
They also used it to pinstripe the wheels.
I bet you'll be doing that next! I've got some striping daggers around here some place you can borrow. Hmm, let's see where did I put those?
You could also use one of those wheeled stripers. Try not to confuse this with strippers!

I do have a pinstripe wheel. Good and easy for a novice. I put the wheel on a lazy susan and turn it by hand.

I can't see any pictures, but the video is fine.
Pete

I'm looking for the pictures, maybe Bob took them...

I'm missing the pics also. Video is ok.

Dang!

I’m not seeing pics on quite a few threads...

Hmmm, maybe it's you?:bounce:

I'll help with a picture. this is from my living room.

yep after a few days of sunshine the clouds and the Seattle Drizzle is back, but it's not snowing or freezing and I know the sun will return some day.

I can imagine what your pictures looked like and i'm guessing it showed that you've been busy making some cool stuff better.

cheers

Nice picture, Drives!

Are my pictures showing up yet?

Andy, the only picture I took was us in a white-out snowstorm. You're on the right....
attachment.php

I seem to have blacked out in that picture. Are you sure that's me, Bob? Pretty handsome guy.

Bob: I can sort of see you cause your hair hasn't turned grey yet, but WHERE'S ANDY?

cheers and had me laughing hard and smiling all day!! thanks:lol_hitti

I'm next to Waldo...

Classic Bob. I’ve never seen Andy look so good.

Thank you, Shorty.

My right or yours?

Hmmm, it wouldn't be Bob's left...

His eyes are what really sets it off.

Oh ****! I may have flipped the photo while editing it.

Now you're editing my pictures? To try to make you look better? I need to go back and look again.

The man is engineering, and he is engineering some engineering solutions.

I can confirm also a rather impressive erection

I've been reading and learning from your thread for a few days now. I'm only at page 93 I think and not even a year into your clean-up process. I really think your style of humor is like my family's. My dad and uncles grew up on a good size farm that goes back generations. The picture is of the last two steers my uncle had.

You being an engineer AND a farmer is what impressed me. Like approaching your projects with common sense and substantially safe practices to comply with the intent of codes or regulations.

The shed is looking great with the separate areas getting organized and outfitted with stuff you have saved for the purpose. This gives me motivation to sort out and keep up the process of organizing here.

The support section at the back was a conundrum to me as to how to get it welded in because once the running board is installed it is close quarters even though part of the skin is off.

attachment.php

I had decided I could reach in and gas weld it. But I recently had bought a MIG welder and figured I could reach in with it too. TIG welded the remaining vertical seam on the left.

attachment.php

Then finished it up with the MIG. It worked pretty well.

attachment.php

Welding the top horizontal seam I burned through some very thin metal. So the big glob is a welded up burn though. At least it's all welded now.

Here's my TIG and stick rig

attachment.php

And the new MIG

attachment.php

I went to buy a cylinder of CO2 but the guy at the welding supply talked me into Argon/CO2 mix. I'm glad he did, it welds very smoothly. I've resisted MIG after a bad experience in 1972. I figured it was time to try it again. The little bit of practice I did went very easily but the fitup on this brace was poor so I did an interrupted weld to get across the gap.

More to come!

I'm still catching up on your prior years . You were getting pretty good with tig welds. Thank you for the hay bale tossing memories. It was fun helping my Aunt and Uncle bring in the hay. My first driving was in the C40 flatbed. Just put it in low and crank it over. I hope you are doing well. I have done a lot of autobody and paint but learning those metal forming techniques with the patterns and stump is fun. Good work so far. Hope you meet the goal date. Jim.

attached photo of the truck and his Buick I did a rust repair and paint on MANY years ago. The clearcoat got buffed thin and evenually needed a redo.

Nice new welding gear. Its amazing how many different things and settings they have compared to the old monsters.
I've been gathering some stuff that I want to give you, seems like the hardest part is making the trip over to your place. It will happen, or you are more than welcome to make a little road trip to Kansas.
take care
