Just found this thread. Great title! "Cluck, cluck...." You'll be hearing chickens when it's real quiet ;)

I think it was on page 2 where someone was bolting the tops of the trusses together while standing on the next to top rung and leaning forward off the scaffold. He's a lot braver than I ever was and I've been in construction and on many ladders and platforms for decades.

But you're done with it so I guess all survived. One more thing — what apprehensions do you have regarding the cold joints in the slab? If it moves won't that tear up your Pex lines? What did you do to prevent this? I guess it made it through one winter w/o heat so good so far?

Yea that was my son.. We survived. Sometimes ignorance is dangerous.

I did drill into the hard slab and put some rebar between the joints. Not sure if that is proper or if it will work but that's what we did so I'll hope for the best.

Last winter the slab laid bare with no building. We just put up the building this summer. I probably won't get the heat in this winter but it will be nice to be in the dry and out of the wind.

Nice setup! Great idea on reusing these materials. Thats a huge savings, and should be plenty sturdy. Plus, you ave plenty of height now with the added 3'

Scored a deal on this lift at a local auto shop wanting to upgrade to a heavier lift. it's a 7,000 lb challenger.

We'll be installing in March!

Shorely the bride-to-be is doing all the organising, that means you and your son would have heaps of QST. They won't even know you are missing.........
Best wishes for a happy life together for the happy couple.

Its looking good.
Some times its hard to get things done, like me last weekend here was 4 days, and I got one 20' piece of strapping up, not happy!

Congrats on the new to you lift and the new to you building. Even after living a couple miles from dozens of chicken houses I never knew they were metal framed or how they were even constructed. Too bad I didn't buy a bunch of those trusses when they were tearing a bunch down, but I was a poor college kid then working on farms so I didn't have the money anyway. If you have a moment give us some details on the '57 and your sons biscayne.

Hey brother, I'm glad to!

My 57 was originally built by my dad and I (mostly Dad) when I was a young teenager. It's gone through a couple of engine swaps over the years and getting ready for another. I have drag raced it off and on for years. Although it is a street car too, I have fun with it at the track.

It has a 406, 350 turbo and a Chrysler 8 3/4 rear end with a spool. Fastest ET to date was 12.13.

The small block will soon be pulled in favor of a 468 BBC with a tunnel ram and 2-4's.

My son's '62 has been a really fun car. We pulled it out of a field when he was 14 and proceeded to build a great driver. It features a 283 and a 700r4 ******. the thing drives great and is a blast! We even drove it to a GoodGuys event in Dallas. (5 hour drive).

Your son's '62 looks great and will be stunning when finished. I'm also certain the '57 will be a monster with the 468, how wild will you go with the heads and cam? I just picked up a '57 4 door a month or so ago and have been learning lots more about them in prep for getting it back on the road. Keep at it, I'm in to follow another car guys projects.

Thanks! I don't know the numbers off the top of my head on the cam. It's a full roller.

The engine came out of my father-in-law's Henry J drag car. (pictured below) He pulled it in favor of a hotter 502.

Ahhh, the disease shows it is head again, "there is only one substitute for cubic inches...that's MORRRE cubic inches"
When I was dragging (35 years ago)my 55, I was running a 400CI+.030, 43/81 cam, 871 with quad 48mm side draught Webbers thru a Powerglide. Best run ever for me was 10.95 on the quarter. the average was 11.70. That was fun. It got 8mpg on the street and 1 for 1 on the strip.
So yes I am with JBM and would love to see more pics of both also.

I'll be sure to post up some pics when the engine swap begins... We'll also be starting on the work bench soon!

Nice build. It's always nice to find builds that are fairly far along. That I have missed and not followed along with. I enjoy getting to see all the progress high speed. Been lurking and browsing for awhile. Hope to see your continued progress.

How is the progress going.?. Garage, and how is your boys paint job.
Hey guys!! Been a minute since I have been here. Finished the shop.. Finished the paint job... Sold the house and moved into town. I'm just about to finish up a wood framed shop at our house in the historic district of our town. Had to shingle and side it like the house. Got about 4 times more money in a smaller building than the chicken house shop which I had around $12k in.
