Here soon I'm going to pick up another bolt drawer setup like the one I already have so I'm thinking up ways to organize all the hardware better without spending a lot of money.
IMG_8941.jpeg

The drawers are 4" wide, 19" long, and roughly 2 3/4" tall.
IMG_8939.jpeg
IMG_8940.jpeg

I saw these bins and they looked like a good solution, but I'll hold off once I know how many I should buy. Maybe I can talk my youngest into sorting the bolts for me?

IMG_8942.png

any suggestions are appreciated!

The manufacturer's site is below:

They're top quality stuff, I actually just sold some I had to a member here as I replaced them with 3d printed ones, otherwise I'd still be using them. You're probably going to want a couple of varied sizes as well but those bins in that drawer organizer should work pretty well and they have some assortment kits as well so play on their website!

I’ll keep that site in mind, I think I’ll get the hardware I have broken down into piles so I can start determining how many of these bins I need.

Tonight I was able to get the belts figured out on the camaro ac and so I removed the brackets to allow me to weld the spacers on the bracket and paint the brackets.
IMG_8949.jpeg

But I got a call from the oldest that she hit a light pole at the target parking lot.🤦🏻‍♂️ The pole was fine but the front of her car took a hit.
IMG_6760.jpeg

So I zipped tied the bumper cover back on and had her drive home to get it in the garage.
I pulled the cover off to see what was damaged and just realized the trim clips were what took the most of the damage.

IMG_8951.jpeg

So armed with a bag of trim clips I went around and replaced each one while bending one small bracket back into place. I say it came out better then I expected. Just some scratches but we will just leave them in place and not worry about it.
IMG_8952.jpeg

IMG_8953.jpeg

Then I finished up the brackets for the camaro and was able to get a few coats of black paint on them so the will be ready to reinstall tomorrow or Saturday.

IMG_8954.jpeg

Just a typical night around my house lol

I would leave the scratches on, reminder not to hit non-moving objects.... :ROFLMAO:
No plans to repaint it. Besides this will be the second time she’s hit something with that car. Her previous car was total cause someone else hit it while the car was parked. 🤦🏻‍♂️

But, if I decide I want to practice repainting damages, this would be a good starting point. I’ll think about it.

Just like the cars back then, I’ve heard the story’s of how they used to swap cars often and sell 1969 chevelle for $500
Yeah, I traded off my 69 Nova SS 300 hp 350 Muncie because I was having trouble finding premium fuel in 1974. Not really a Chevelle but still a fast car. There were no octane boosters and unleaded fuel was taking over. I've wished I could've held off a few years but it was the family car along with a 54 210 commuter car.

My dad sold his 69 Chevelle because the battery terminal was giving mom trouble. So he sold it for something reliable for my mom. Keep in mind, he rebuilt the 350 engine in their bedroom that went in the Chevelle. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I was able to get the brackets back on the camaro with no issues. All the belts are back on the motor and everything looks good. Only thing I do need to do is trim the inner fender to clear the ac compressor.
IMG_8958.jpeg
IMG_8959.jpeg
IMG_8960.jpeg

Now it’s time to start putting the rest of the AC on the camaro and pull a vacuum on it.
IMG_8961.jpeg

But this morning I went to get the hardware organizer and let’s say this thing is a beast. Way bigger then my original bolt holder and way heavier. I was able to get it out by myself, but I think if I ever have to move it again it’s gonna get loaded on the trailer.
IMG_8967.jpeg
It also has front doors to keep it clean and looking at my original bolt holder I think it has a cover also but I guess it was removed along time ago.
IMG_8968.jpeg

In its spot for now until I dedicate the time to sort hardware and repaint everything.
IMG_8969.jpeg

For now my old little wooden stand is going to be a table cart to hopefully keep me from putting my tools on the camaro.
IMG_8971.jpeg

Now to go grab a bit to eat and rest after moving that beast.

😡🤦🏻‍♂️

Well apparently there is a leak. I have the general area where the leak in the ac system is, but I can’t pinpoint it. My little ac sniffer points to the area on the evaporator right against the firewall where the hose number 6 connection is made. I pulled the evaporator out and only thing I found is this little hair line crack in the solder on the little tube from the expansion valve. But when I had the system pressurized, it didn’t really show and bubbles. IMG_8981.jpeg
IMG_8980.jpeg

I’m not sure what I’m going to do. Soap and water solution isn’t showing any bubbles forming really and considering it’s dropping 10 psi within 30 mins there should be something showing.

I thought maybe I over tightened the #6 hose on that expansion valve, and it does look like it’s a little deformed compare to the other #6 hose fitting, but there’s no bubble forming at the connection.

I didn’t want to put dye in the system, and I don’t think dye will show up unless I spin the compressor up. So I’m not sure what I’m going to do….

Chasing leaks is definitely no fun!
Naw it’s not.

I think I’ll call vintage air Monday, see if I can get an expansion valve from them or see if they will swap the whole evaporator out with a new one.

Then I’ll replace the fitting on the hose as a precaution. I got fittings on order, just need to get a crimper. Apparently the vintage air crimper is just a master cool 71550 kit. Trying to find a kit a available through an trustee source is an issue.

So I was able to talk to vintage air tech line. He said if I’m 100% sure that’s it’s not the number 6 line, the number 10 line, or the expansion valve connection then we can do a warranty claim on it and they will inspect the evaporator closer.

I’m going to replace the fitting on the number 6 line cause it has a little bit of deformity compare to the other fittings. He said the expansion valve connection is the same size o-ring as the number 10 line so I’ll remove it and replace the o-ring as precautions before I tighten it to spec. The little hair line crack I seen on the tube coming from the expansion valve is normal and isn’t on the refrigerant side of the system so it shouldn’t leak Freon there. Until I get the fitting and the crimper, the AC is going to have to seat for the time being. So, I’ll start working on the wiring harness under the engine bay to keep going. I did cap the hoses off so the ac system is not exposed to the element.

Oh well, that’s how projects go, right?

Well I give up. After replacing the hose end twice I still had a leak. So, I replaced the expansion valve o-ring and it still has a leak. Tried soapy water and no signs of a bubble. One of the thing the tech said was if it was the actual core leaking, it would be more obvious at the drain tube area. So after putting a little Freon in the system I used my sniffer and it lit up fast by the drain tube. While it was slow to get to the top of the bar on the tester when sniffing by the number 6 hose. Which makes sense as the drain tube is close to that area. I’m pretty sure it’s the core leaking. So, I’ll call Monday and see what I need to do for the warranty work or if they determine it was my fault, how much it’s gonna cost me. I might also need a new number 6 hose since I initially thought my end was crimped wrong, so I had cut almost 6” total off trying to ensure my crimp was good. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Got the vintage air evaporator unit out and packed up for further instructions from the warranty guy.
IMG_9061.jpeg

Serviced a mower to sell. This one just needed basic maintenance. Only 2 years old.
IMG_9065.jpeg
Routed some wires and decided I needed to get the headlights and turn signal in place.
IMG_9070.jpeg

So I got the headlight ring out to clean up.
IMG_9071.jpeg

Looked at my turn signal inventory,
IMG_9072.jpeg

Decided I needed to pull the lens off so I can clean the inside and polish the lens.
So out came the toaster oven and I placed a water soaked cardboard on the tray and placed a water soaked towel on the lens to protect the plastic from the heat.

IMG_9073.jpeg

IMG_9074.jpeg

IMG_9075.jpegHeated it up to 350F for 8 mins and the lens was able to be separated for better restoration.
IMG_9077.jpeg

That’s all I had time for this weekend.

Shipping was $136, so the evaporator is on its way to San Antonio to get repaired under warranty. I also got a new number 6 hose coming in for free so far. Now we wait to see what they find when they take it apart. Gonna piss me off if they say it don’t leak.

Just a little bit of work tonight.

I got the lenses polished up. I used 600 then 1200 grit, then polishing compound. They look 100% better. One is still a little hazy but not as bad.

Beginning
IMG_9090.jpeg
Polished the left one
IMG_9092.jpeg
Then both are polished.
IMG_9095.jpeg

Might spray the inside chrome, but they do look decent.
IMG_9101.jpeg

Now the turn signal bezel.
IMG_9102.jpeg

Sanded it with 400grit and prepped them for paint. Then busted out the little detail harbor freight gun. Apparently it leaks now at the trigger but I got the job done.
IMG_9103.jpeg

IMG_9104.jpeg
IMG_9105.jpeg
Next time I’m going to evict the new car and paint over there. I forgot how much it clouds up when painting. I got a fan with a furnace filter running to clear it up.
This is the paint I used to paint the little trim with.
IMG_9106.jpeg

Now, need to decide how I’m going to glue the lenses back on the housings. Maybe epoxy will be ok?

Alittle side project.

Daughter wanted a vanity/desk. So, we looked on Facebook market place and found the lower desk half on Monday. While I let my FIL sand the bottom half, me and the youngest worked on the top half. Using mostly wood I had we built this top.
IMG_9118.jpeg

Trimmed the front of the shelves.
IMG_9122.jpeg
IMG_9139.jpeg

Then we got the desk back and we test fitted the upper on the desk.
IMG_9147.jpeg

Once we did some more sanding and filling gaps, along with fixing and little issues we got it cleaned and prepped for painting.
IMG_9154.jpeg

And here it is in her room!

IMG_9171.jpeg
She’s been organizing everything in her room all day. I call it a successful project since she likes it!

So some updates on the Camaro.

As y’all know, I sent the evaporator case back to Vintage air and it arrived at there facility on Thursday. I got an email Friday afternoon with a shipment label for an evaporator case to be sent to my house. No explanation on what they found, but they haven’t charged me anything yet so I guess it was factory defect? Kinda want to ask what they found but figured I’d wait til when it shows at my door steps.
I got my new number 6 hose in the mail yesterday , and it was replaced under warranty so that’s good. Bad thing is I now have to pull the old one out and get the new one in. It wasn’t a fun process getting the first on in.

I used super glue to glue the lense on the turn signal housing. Unfortunately I got some glue on the driver side lense and messed it up. Oh well, I’ll replace it down the road when I find another one or just cough up the money for new ones if I just can’t stand it. But currently it don’t look bad from 10 feet.
IMG_9132.jpeg
IMG_9133.jpeg
IMG_9135.jpeg

Turned my attention to the electric fan. This fan has been with me for 20+ years and the little rubber flappers has deteriorated and broken off. I got new rubber coming in. I’m also going to clean up my hack job of cutting the shield from high school days, I did it to fit it in with the old radiator. Need to see how much clearance I need before I put fiber glass over it to close the gap.
IMG_9123.jpeg

Other then that’s it’s just been a ordering part kinda week while working on the desk.

Gave vintage air a call and talked to the tech rep I’ve been dealing with. Turns out there was a pin hole in the evaporator coil, so it wasn’t my fault. Am I glad that they replaced it for free, yep. But, the time, troubleshooting, frustrations, headaches, shipping cost, and cost of crimper and fittings just drags me down in the dump with getting this car finished up. Once I get the unit back I’ll install it and make sure it’s not leaking this time around before getting back on the wiring. I’ll have to ask for help over the weekend, cause I need someone to hold the case up while I start the bolt in the firewall. Wifey will be out of town this weekend so I can’t enlist her. We will see what happens.

Either way, I started working on mowers just to get some ready. I actually sold one already even though there’s snow on the ground still.
IMG_9179.jpeg
IMG_9190.jpeg

I also installed new door mirrors on the F250 cause the old ones were busted up from getting hit. Plus they never did work right. It’s nice to have fully functional mirrors that extends and folds back now.
IMG_9184.jpeg

I also ordered a bunch of maintenance related stuff for the Subaru Forester of mine. It’s got 69,000 miles on it and I didn’t do any of the 60,000 miles maintenance. So, during my next oil change I’ll change diff fluid, and a drain/fill of the CVT fluid. Along with replacing the PCV valve on the engine. Once all of that’s completed I’ll do spark plugs, but I wanted to do one thing at a time to make sure I don’t run into any trouble. Oh and I’ll check the brake fluid water level with the new probe and most likely be flushing it and the coolant system. But one thing at a time. I still got a camaro to build.

While I wait for the evaporator case to get back I decided to work on some mowers. was able to knock out 3 in the past couple of days. Just need a air filter for the lawnboy.

There's this Troybilt that was serviced,
IMG_9190.jpeg

The Lawnboy, which will probably go to the father in law
IMG_9195.jpeg

Then this manaufactured in USA Murray, worked on this one with the youngest.
IMG_9200.jpeg
IMG_9206.jpeg

Then this Yard Machine that was interesting. When I pulled the fuel line off the carb, the fuel wasn't draining. Turns out there was some kind of clear gel at the bottom of the tank.
Hard to see in my coffee can,
IMG_9209.jpeg

Took 20 mins of flushing it out with hot water and simple green to get the screen at the fuel pickup area to become clear and now the tank flows as it's supposed to.

Then the carb had damages that required some different screws and re-thread. But, eventually I was able to get it repaired and now it starts on first pull.
IMG_9211.jpeg

I still have 3 more mowers I think I can get then back into running shape and the rest will just be stripped for parts.

The evaporator case is to arrive today, so I'll turn back to the camaro and get the AC back together before the wife takes off for the weekend.

The evaporator case was home when I came in for lunch. So I unpacked it to ensure it didn’t get damaged during shipping. I’m grateful that they sent me a new case, but unfortunately there’s something different about it.

The new case,
IMG_9218.jpeg

The old case,
IMG_9042.jpeg

So, I sent these photo to the tech support and asked kindly what do I do now? Was looking forward to putting this behind me this weekend.

On another note, I brought in what I thought might be a part mower to start stripping it down.
After looking over it, I’m now thinking it’s a solid mower but the motor mount area was damaged. I’m thinking about cutting up a junk mower deck for some metal and repair this deck.
IMG_9220.jpeg

But, how did this happen??? It’s not rusted out, but it missing pieces and there was only one bolt that was in the block.

Also, I think this is a fresh nest, so I’m going to set out some mouse traps along with set up my bucket trap.
IMG_9219.jpeg

Guess I’ll change my plans this weekend again. Maybe I’ll work on the radiator and electric fan setup.

So, let’s repair the deck.

I had this good deck that had a bad motor on it. So I removed everything off the deck and test fitted the Honda motor on it.
IMG_9223.jpeg

The bolt holes lined up with the Honda bolt holes, so let’s cut the mounting ring off this deck.
First let’s clean the paint off for welding.
IMG_9225.jpeg
Now cut the ring off with cut off disc.
IMG_9226.jpeg

After cleaning the damaged deck and orientated the engine mount on the deck, we started burning it in.
IMG_9227.jpeg
There was some good welds, and then there was some junk welds. Glad I ain’t doing this on something that’s cosmetic important!

Let’s clean it up some,
IMG_9232.jpeg
Still not perfect but hammer test says it’s strong.

So, alittle paint on it,
IMG_9234.jpeg

I almost wanted to clean it up some more but I had to remind myself that this is just a mower. But, it would of been good practice to keep going.
But I decided to just stop and be happy that it’s strong.
Here it is with the motor mounted back on.
IMG_9235.jpeg

I then had to get the motor running and needless to say, previous owner was in it and they must of took all of the gasket off the carb intake as there was none there. So I ordered up afew sets of gaskets.

Couple of things I’m fully aware of now. I need a welding table and I need to rearrange my garage to have a better setup for welding. Also, I need some welding walls, to contain the sparks and dust from welding and grinding. It might be time to do a reorganization and purge stuff that’s not needed.

Well, our oldest dog Jr has crossed the rainbow bridge. He was my wife’s dog more then anyone’s. She had him for 17 years. His health was just getting bad and wasn’t greeting my wife at the door like he used to. He just laid in his blanket and didn’t want to move. So we made the decision to put him down Friday.

He was a good dog.

Now we are down to one Dog, Maggie and one cat Hailey. No plans to get another dog.
