Yesterday I had a doctor appointment, so I took a half day from work and was able to squeeze in some work on the floor. The front tile area got grouted before I had to go to the appointment. At first, I was worried the grout was going to be too dark but luckily it became lighter as it dried out. I used packing tape to protect the carpet from the grout. I plan to give that carpet a good cleaning soon.
IMG_4778.jpeg
IMG_4779.jpeg

It's lightened up in this photo, which was 5 hours after grouting.
IMG_4783.jpeg

Then when I got home, I was able to grout the rear door tile area since the front area was dry enough for traffic. Overall, it was nice to finish up the tiling and just need some cleaning around the tiled area now.
IMG_4782.jpeg
Now on to cleaning the walls, identify wall damages to repair, and do some paint touch up. I also ordered some hinges and a new door handle for the rear door. As per amazon, they should be in today. Hopefully, I'll be able to get all of the walls finished before the carpet goes in. I'm not sure when the installer will be coming by, but I just know I need to keep working on everything till he does.

With the new tiles down by the old door, it made the old door look crappy. So, I am installing new hardware, taking down the junky curtains, and possibly replacing the weather stripping. These doors always leaked since we moved in the house, but I just never got around to addressing it. During my assessment of the doors, it appears the hinges were worn out, the astragal bolt on the bottom was broke, and possibly the door bottom seal was gone. I installed new hinges and got them adjusted to where the door is now lined up evenly in the frame. I also determined that the astragal bolt was part of the center T piece, and I couldn't just buy the bolt, I had to buy the complete center piece. A new center trim is on the way, and it also has new weather stripping included. My plan is to fill in the holes today with JB weld from the curtain hangers and get the door sanded smooth for a paint job. I was initially going to paint it white, but my wife thought black would be better. Seeing how the front door is dark brown it does make sense. plus, it would break up the white some. We will be installing new blinds in the window since wifey wants to go curtainless. I'm thinking of those cloth rollup type blinds instead of the slates style. Anyone have any experience with roll up cloth style blinds? I'm not thinking of the spring-loaded ones, I was thinking of something that turns or have to be pulled up with ropes.

Spent a lot of time taking of the little stuff.

For some reason there was no support for the baseboard pipe in my closet, they were using a piece of wood. With the new carpet I didn’t want to put the wood back in place so I got this pipe supporter.
IMG_4800.jpeg
Pretty solid since I hit a stud with that screw.

Then the door’s astragal center piece I bought was too thick. So I decided to just make a new sliding bolt using some steel stock I had. Picture of the good original, hand made, and the old one.
IMG_4809.jpeg

Fits in the original groove and works like a charm. Just need to tighten up the striker point to remove the slop it has.

IMG_4810.jpeg
While I wait for a new strike plate for the bolt, I went ahead and prep the door for paint. Have to let the JB weld cure then I can sand it all again and then paint it tomorrow.
IMG_4812.jpeg

I didn’t have a before picture, but this window shelf was all scratched up from the dog clawing when barking at the delivery guy.
IMG_4815.jpeg

I put plastic over this area to hopefully keep the cat from getting on the shelf. This is one of hers favorite spot to sit.
IMG_4813.jpeg

I did fill in all of the holes in the walls, repaired some small cracks in the drywall, and painted all of the spots in the paint. Luckily I had already matched the paint for another project in the house and this was left over paint. But that’s boring.

I think once I paint the doors, install the blinds, and clean up, this room should be ready for carpet!

Second coat done, tape peeled off. Just giving it some time before I put the door handle on.

I’m not wild with the paint job but it does look good from 10ft. Really wished I would have just sprayed the doors, but with the weather it wasn’t possible to just take the doors off for a day or two.

Blinds came in today and I was able to get them all installed except one. It was missing a bracket. Will have to deal with Lowe’s tomorrow about getting the missing bracket.

Wife talked to the carpet installer and he mention he might can install the carpet on Thanksgiving but if not it will be the weekend. I said he didn’t have to come on thanksgiving, but she said they didn’t celebrate it so they would rather work. He just needed to see what his brothers want to do.

Looking good! Nice work!
Thanks!

So carpet will be installed this weekend. In the mean time I’ve been cleaning the garage, the forester, and repairing the console lid of the forester.

Here is my progress on cleaning the garage, so far I got 8 of them disposed.
IMG_4844.jpeg
The interior is cleaned,
IMG_4856.jpeg

The busted lid. It was like this before I got the car. I guess my younger cousin stepped on the lid when climbing from back to front seat.

IMG_4847.jpeg
IMG_4848.jpeg

The repair so far, will get some foam tomorrow to add to it and then I’ll wrap it with some left over vinyl/leather material from the Camaro.
IMG_4865.jpeg
IMG_4866.jpeg

I used some ABS plastic, plastic JB weld, and super glue to make the repairs.

It’s solid now and all of the mounting screws studs are solid.

Of course we had dinner at the in laws house.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Console lid is finished.

I got some fleece out of the remnant section for .37 cents. Glued it on and then glued the leather/vinyl over it. Did my best with stretching around the corner but it’s not perfect. Better then what it was and cheaper the $200 for the lid from dealership.

Now to finish cleaning the outside of the car and get a coat of wax on it so the snow and salt can get it dirty again.

Looks pretty good from here Cody, nice work!
Thanks! It’s nice enough to me that I don’t need to spend $200 on it!

I need to watch the junkyard for a door panel, seems the speaker grill on the rear passenger side got busted. I was told a 5 gallon jug of water tipped over and hit the grill. **** happens.

I also need a steam cleaner, the headliner is stained and I believe steam will be the best course of action to clean it.

This morning before everyone showed up, I moved everything and double checked that all of the staples were up. Did some sweeping and vacuuming to make sure it’s clean.

IMG_4912.jpeg

Then after 5 hours the crew had the carpet laid and we vacuumed the floor.
IMG_4918.jpeg
IMG_4920.jpeg
IMG_4922.jpeg
IMG_4923.jpegIMG_4924.jpeg

After everything settled, it was determined that I had extra carpet. We double checked our measurements and apparently Lowe’s gave us 24’ of carpet. He said sometime Lowe’s give extra when it’s a big order but never seen this much.

So we are taking advantage of the extra carpet and we will rip 2 of the bedroom’s carpet up and I need 10ft more of the carpet to do both rooms. These rooms has a dark brown carpet and a dark green carpet, so some unusual colors for sure.

First though, we need to put everything back in place before we start emptying out the bedrooms. I’ll have to pull the carpet and foam in the bedrooms. I might lay down so plastic or protection on the new carpet before I start ripping the old carpet up.

It’s a good situation to be in, but I thought I was done with big projects for the year. But it is nice to walk on the new carpet!

@loganb with your recent interest in grandfather clocks, I figured you would enjoy these pics.

This is a Howard Miller clock. My father in law restored it several years back and with the recent moving of the clock to change the carpet I figured I’d set it up to make sure the mechanic is working still.

It chimes, and seems to keep time too. It has little glass shelf’s to put in it. Unfortunately one broke awhile back and I need to get inside to clean the glass from the bottom before I put the other shelves in. Probably a job for tomorrow.

Been a week almost since I posted here, but I assure you I have been very busy.

After we had the carpet installed we had a new addition to the family over that night. We kept him for a few days for a trial period to see how he would fit in with Hailey (the other cat) and Maggie the dog. Seems he’s doing good and so far has been a good cat. So here is Garold, he’s a 2 years old orange tabby cat.
IMG_4939.jpeg
He’s a big boy, not fat but muscular.

IMG_4926.jpeg
IMG_4975.jpeg
I’ve never had an orange cat and my understanding they have unique quirks about them. Garold also has a thumb on each of his front paws. So that makes him a polydactyl. He’s been fun to watch and he’s brought out Hailey who has been a very unsociable cat. Hailey will cuddle and let you pet her, but you have to catch her. The reason we adopted Garold is because his family has to move back to Brazil and they weren’t able to take Garold with them. Plus we wanted a cat that was a little more sociable and he seems to be great so far. When he jumps over the gate to the room with the food and litter box, you can hear him hitting the floor when he lands, it’s a nice thud sound due to his size, lol.

Anyway, as I mentioned it seemed Lowes gave me 24ft of extra carpet, so we decided to get 10 more feet and had two bedrooms carpet replaced.
Here is one of them with its green carpet.
IMG_4952.jpeg
Got it all ripped out and found the same odd floor covering in this room.
IMG_4964.jpeg

Got the other room carpet ripped, imagine dark brown carpet here, and it had the same odd flooring too.
IMG_4990.jpeg

It was a bit of a rush cause the carpet guy called and said he could do the two bedrooms Saturday morning. I had to hurry up and patch the walls, touch up the paint, prepped the floor by removing all of the staples, and clean the floor of the loose dusty old padding.
Then him and his two brothers had these rooms knocked out in 2 hours.

Here they are with the new carpet.

IMG_5007.jpeg
IMG_5008.jpeg

We had some of the youngest daughter’s friends over to help get everything back in the rooms.

It was a lot, but in the end I had to help the youngest purge her room of a lot of stuff she didn’t want or it was trash. She experienced the dreaded overwhelming shocks of too much stuff! So I guided her with how to slowly go through it and teach her some organizing skills.

Oh and got Christmas decoration up in the house. I almost sent the tree to @loganb to get the lights working again on the top. But I just took the old string out as it was the prelit type of tree and put a new string of lights in as over 50 bulbs were blown.
IMG_4953.jpeg

Lights fixed,
IMG_5033.jpeg

Other then purging, organizing, donating old clothes, throwing trash away, and continue to work on small projects, this has been the past week for me!

Love it - Garold!! That's my given name - not many of us!!
welcome to the thread! It was his given name when we adopted him. Since his previous family was from Brazil, they sometimes pronounce the name as Harogie, my understanding it’s due to how the letters are pronounced in Portuguese.

The youngest daughter wanted to call him Garfield, but I said Garold is close enough to Garfield that we shouldn’t change his name.

A kid we know was having trouble with his car. it's a 2012 Nissan Pathfinder that wasn't running right. He's a busy kid as he works for his brother who did the carpet installation. I offered to check his car out and see if I could figure out the issue with it. the main issue was the accordion rubber tube behind the MAF sensor was broken up and was allowing a lot of air to enter the system without being monitored. So, I got that replaced for him, $20 for the tubes on amazon but i used the factory clamps. Then I found a broken oxygen sensor bung on the exhaust pipe. Instead of replacing the pipe and sensor I just used some bailing wire and JB exhaust patch weld to hold it tightly on the pipe and seal the break. This car has 195,000 miles and he just wants to keep it running another year or 2. So, it wasn't worth repairing the exhaust pipe and potentially opening another can of worm with the exhaust system. But there was a coolant leak at this plastic junction that couldn't be ignored or fixed easily.
IMG_5027.jpeg
IMG_5030.jpeg
Seems the plastic was brittle and had cracked on him. The radiator was a gallon low when I first checked the car out, so I knew this was an engine killer break for him. I found a replacement from Dorman that was a redesign, and the plastic was replaced with metal, so I opted for that version, plus it was $140 instead of $400 from the dealer for the same plastic piece design.
IMG_5055.jpeg

During removal of the old pipe assembly, the plastic piece just broke into multiple pieces with ease, which is very concerning and makes me think about all of the plastic tubes on my 2012 F250, . here is an overall photo of the old assembly. It wasn't an easy deal but wasn't really too bad.
IMG_5057.jpeg

After I was finished with his car, I started cleaning the garage up from the projects and also gathered tools for a glass block installation and exterior door installation at a friend's house. If it wasn't for the fact that he is selling his house in 2 weeks, we would have waited till the weather was warmer to do this task. Supposed to be in the 30's tomorrow and we will be knocking out two windows and a door so this should be fun.

Didn’t get finished with the windows like I wanted to. The cold weather is really slowing down the set time of the mortar. So we called it a day to let everything cure. We also poured a little concrete to fix an exterior threshold area but again the weather is slowing the cure time. Tomorrow we hope to finish the windows, remove the exterior door and install the new exterior door.
Only got two pics of in progress of the windows. But all that was left was to remove the upper shims to fill in the gap and trim the lower shims and finish putting mortar on the bottom edge.

IMG_5079.jpeg

This spot wasn’t big enough for 2 rows so we made the call to fill in the big gap with cinder block and just put two glass blocks instead of cutting it bigger.
IMG_5081.jpeg

The wall finish looks like it was skimmed with mortar and then painted so I smeared the mortar some to help blend it in better.

I’ll let him paint it.

Got finished with the windows and door at a friends house. Glad to be done cause it was cold!!

One window inside and out.
IMG_5093.jpeg
IMG_5095.jpeg

The other window outside and inside,
IMG_5094.jpeg
IMG_5096.jpeg

The door was a little bit challenging cause the house isn’t plumbed, so we just plumbed the door cause the ground was level and the door sat flush with the floor. Then the door didn’t have a dead bolt hole pre drilled, so I had to drill the hole out. None the less it came out good. He will install the exterior trim, seal trim/door, and spray insulation around the door on the inside.
IMG_5097.jpeg

Now to put all of my tools away and clean my house, 🙄

Working in the garage, I decided it was time to disassemble the carport. Here it is in their piles.
IMG_5105.jpeg

I stopped at goodwill and found two suitcases for $10 and was able to fit all of the tarp sections and small bits and pieces of the carport into the two suitcases. This make it easier to carry since it’s not all in one bin. It even has wheels!
IMG_5112.jpeg

Then using some 1” belt and buckles i made some belts to hold the bundles of pipes together. I got some 2” belt and buckles to hold all of the bundles together when in storage. Just need to make them up.
IMG_5111.jpeg

I decided to move the fridge in the wood room but before I moved it to its new spot I defrosted the freezer part. Wasn’t much was going to fit in that spot anymore.
IMG_5116.jpeg
IMG_5117.jpeg

Got it all defrosted and cleaned up.

I purchased a new cabinet to get some of the stuff organized again. I’m trying to keep all of the home tools in this cabinet/room. The cabinet is a unit from Sam’s club. It seems to be a nice unit so far. Just a lot of screws involved.
IMG_5129.jpeg
IMG_5130.jpeg

There are three shelves for it, I just haven’t decided where I will put them.

This room has become a mess as I collected all of my tools from everywhere, other house, in laws house, and my house.

IMG_5131.jpeg
IMG_5132.jpeg

Hopefully I’ll get it back in shape over the next two days. I got a start on it today but stopped for the night as I couldn’t think of a good idea on organizing it all.

I always find big organization attempts overwhelming. Worth it in the end but, it can be a daunting task.

I always emptied everything onto a center table, throw away what I've pack ratted away for years and start fresh as I put things in there new spot
