LOL... I got real nervious when I saw the blue tape!... the stripes look great & I too am a sucker for blk/red
It’s actually a purplish blue vinyl tape. Made it easier to make the curved edges. I did use a 1/4” green masking tape to set my spacing between the thin and wide black stripes.

As for the color combo, it seems all of my past vehicles but one was red or black. The 1994 F350 blue and sliver diesel was the only one that didn’t follow my red and black trend. I also went with white, but I decided I wanted it to match my truck so black it was.

Damn right it changes the look! Car looks great. Excellent job!

Sucker for black and red!

Looks great

Very nice!

Color me jealous, looks fantastic Cody!

Car is looking great Cody. Well done.

Ooh la la!

Car looks great

Looks much faster now, :bounce: great job!

Thanks everyone! This project has been a long time coming. I bought this car in 1997 and thanks to my parents I never had to sale it. Was just 2.5 years ago, the car was basically a shell with a drivetrain.

Studying the laws of PA, I’ve determined I’m going to tag this car as an Antique which strangely doesn’t require a safety or emission inspection. So those emissions parts I just acquired is not necessary now. Considering I’m not going to be driving this car often, just once a week or to a car cruise, the antique tag will be just fine. Now to just go to the local messenger service station and get the documents filled out!

Well, I’m finally at the point that I’m ready to reveal a project that has taken up a lot of my time and money. It’s not the Camaro but a new garage.

The plan is to move back to our previous home, so first thing first I needed to build a garage.

Instead of posting about it here, I decided to start a new thread. I’ll still be in the current garage for atleast another year. But while I’m working on the new garage I’ll keep posting about day to day stuff here.

Here is the link to the new garage build.

Hopefully it don’t become too confusing, but I figured it’s best to split the two garages in their own thread.

Pittsburgh experience a micro burst wind storm two days ago, knocked the power out and dropped some limbs and trees around the municipality. The airport reported a 71.3MPH wind gust.

I do believe that speed was the truth as I was on the front porch and was watching the clouds before the wind came, and it was like a brick wall hitting us. I'm familiar with tornados and have watched several of them in my life. This situation was very close to a tornado with the high wind. It was a sight to watch as my tree in my front yard bounce, all the dead/weak limbs dropped to the ground like the dead needles on the Christmas tree does when it's bounced on its stump on a concrete floor. Luckily the limbs were all small and no serious damage was done to the trees in my yard.
Only damage I really experienced was my windmill got knocked over.
IMG_6708.jpeg

It bent a blade and the tail, but it was easy to bend them back out. I'll take a hammer and dolly to them later to just massage the crease out some more.

The biggest damage was the big maple tree behind my garage, luckily it missed the garage.
IMG_6711.jpegIMG_6710.jpeg

I'll talk to the neighbor about just cutting the whole tree down since the trunk is compromised. There's a hole in the trunk also that I'm sure is deep and rotted. Better to take it down in a control manner instead of waiting for nature to do it. That also goes for the tree by my driveway entrance, the trunk has a hole in it and it's rotting from inside out. If one of those big limbs break off, it will take the power out of the neighbor's house. So, I'll probably see if I can piggyback on the big maple tree removal and get a package deal with the neighbor.

Not much else going on other then chores and daily task. I did get some mowers fixed, stripped a few mowers down, got a chainsaw fixed for the landscaper, and organized some parts from the stripped mowers.
IMG_6698.jpeg

I did get to clean the daily driver, even put some wax on it. Paint is really rough and could use some paint correction but I’m not too worried about it as it’s a daily driver. Just keeping it clean.

I got 900 miles left on this oil change and when it’s time I will do the spark plugs, belt, tensioner, idler pulley, and coolant flush.

I need to do a garage cleanup, so maybe this week will be the time to do it. Supposed to be raining on and off most of the week.

They keep coming,,,,,
IMG_6767.jpeg

I got two of those push mowers finished up today.

Saturday morning was a time to demo the man’s bathroom at the church. We decided it was time to remodel the man’s bathroom. Cleaned it up and now it’s time for the plumber and electrician to do their parts. Then we will frame the new wall and install the door. Plans are to get it done before Juneish…..
IMG_6823.jpeg

But yesterday I tackled this riding mower from a friend of mine. Seems he’s been having some bad luck lately and each one of his mowers are in need of attention. This riding mower wouldn’t start, like no click at all.
IMG_6791.jpeg

Charged the battery, found a 5amp fuse blown, and the PTO switch was engaged, 🤦🏻‍♂️

IMG_6792.jpeg

Once those things were corrected it fired off with no issues.

Pulled his deck off and found the idle pulley was growling. So I ordered a bunch of maintenance parts and new belts since the PTO belt was gone already.
IMG_6807.jpeg

Then it was time to tackle this wheel barrow, the handles were rotting away and the front piece the connected both handles together was broken off.
IMG_6793.jpeg
IMG_6818.jpeg
After a battle that ended with me using a sawzall, I got it all apart.
IMG_6822.jpeg

I got new handles and hardwares. Once I transferred the holes from the old handles to the new handles it was a matter of drilling holes and reassembly.
I decided to forgo sanding and painting the barrow, I need it in commission for some digging and I’m pressed for time right now.
IMG_6826.jpegIMG_6828.jpeg

And of course, cut the grass, mulched a flower bed, trim the yard, and blew all of the porch and deck areas off.

Oh and dug the trench for the electrical for the Texas Barn.

I’m tired….

Pressure washed the cub cadet so I didn’t have to be rolling and rubbing up on horse POOOOOO. Plus it makes it nicer to work on it.

IMG_6850.jpeg

Assembled this mower combo. The deck is fairly new, but the original motor got destroyed from the owner hitting something. So I took this B&S engine and put it in place. The motor is fine, just needs the fuel system gone through so that’s next on the list.
IMG_6851.jpeg

I took the time to go through a Craftsman 29cc tiller and figured out the diaphragm in the carb was failing. The customer decided he didn’t want to pay for a new carb and wanted to go electric now since he hardly used it to begin with. I offered to just swap the carb for just the cost of the carb since I put a carb on it last year for him. But he declined. These little weed wacker engines tillers are hit and miss on carburetors. Factory wants too much for the carburetors or gaskets for them to fail in a year or two from low use. Chinese carburetor are good for a year or two and then fail. Probably the same carburetors except the name on the box.
He told me I could have it so I threw a $15 carburetor on it and it fired off after 3 pulls. I’ll use it in my flower beds and garden.
IMG_6852.jpeg

Since it was trash day the next day, I took the time and strip basic parts that’s good off the junk mowers and scrapped the rest. The pile was gone by the time I went to bed last night.
IMG_6847.jpeg

Along with cleaning up the garage and swept the floor, that was my time in the garage.

I tend to pressure wash the lawn equipments aftier the initial diagnostic to ensure I don’t miss anything from being pressure washed. I also usually clean all equipments before they go back to the customers. But, I’ve had to give stuff back to customers due to time pressure between me and the customer that wasn’t cleaned properly. Minimally they get air blown and wiped down with a rag to get the thick cruds off. But I usually pressure wash all of the equipments before they leave the shop. One of the reason I’d like to look into getting an electrical setup that’s ready to go at all time at the new garage. Just set the sheet of plywood down to protect the yard, set mower on the wood, pull out hose and flip switch on pressure unit to save time.

Well I got the Frankenstein mower together and in working condition. Came out pretty nice, just wish I had a craftsman engine cover instead of the yard machine logo.
IMG_6856.jpeg

Then it was the Honda mower’s turn. Folks clean your deck every once in awhile!
IMG_6860.jpeg
Sharpen blade, changed oil, new wheels, and new air filter. Now it’s ready for service as it’s starts very easily. This one just might become my new personal mower.
IMG_6861.jpeg

Then tinkered with this yard machine. It’s a newer style and it’s proving to be complicated. The plastic carburetor concept is a nice idea to prevent corrosion and such, but it’s not able to handle heat it seems. So if you look closely at these carburetor they tend to warp on the inside from heat and chemical exposure.

IMG_6864.jpeg
When they warp it allows fuel to bypass the jet and it becomes a leak. Usually I just order a new carburetor for these and not even try to fix them if it’s not water in the fuel bowl. Which is funny as they put a hex plug in the fuel bowl to drain the carburetor of the water.
IMG_6865.jpeg
Oh well, it’s all part of the future of disposable.

You never know who you might sell a lawnmower to when you refurbish so many. This is Julius Welschof who is new to the Pittsburgh Steelers, he’s from Germany and has an interesting story of how he came from Germany to playing football in Pittsburgh. Here is an interview of him on a podcast.
Here is Julius and me.
IMG_6883.jpeg
He likes to work with his hands and is currently remodeling a house in Pittsburgh. I can respect him with wanting to do things himself and play professional football. He’s currently on the practice squad but I’ll be keeping an eye out for him.

Other news is I got new tires but the shop ran out of time and couldn’t align the front end. They couldn’t start the car because they didn’t check if the shifter was push all the way in Park.
So it goes back on Thursday for an alignment.
The rear tires are a hair smaller now as they are 255/60R15 instead of the old 275/60R15, front is still 235/60R15.
IMG_6905.jpeg
IMG_6906.jpeg

It needs a good cleaning but I rather wait til the alignment is done.

I also setup the speedometer on the digital Dakota gauges with the new tires. The ODO now reads 2 miles since it now keeps track of mileage.

I took the time to clean this grease gun, good quality grease gun but I can’t never keep it clean. So I just keep it clean as much as I can.

Dirty

Clean,

Cleaned the grease gun holder too.

Thanks Marc! Lately I started sitting in the garage and just stare at it. Thinking of how far it has come from the shell it used to be.

Soon as I get the car on the street, I go and pick up a 4L80E transmission for it.🤦🏻‍♂️

For $150 it’s a good price for a core.
IMG_7003.jpeg

I’ll stash it for a later date to rebuild . It came out of a van and the guy claimed it worked fine, it was the front suspension of the van that caused him to scrap the whole van. The fluid is dark though, so it’s questionable.

Nonetheless, the Camaro finally got the front end alignment yesterday and it got a bath today. I’ll detail it some and hopefully Sunday I’ll put it in a local car show just down the street from me. Still waiting for Penndot to send my plates. Unfortunately they kicked my paperwork back to the service center due to the Q looking like an O in the VIN. So I had to fill out another form and had a mechanic inspector verify the VIN on the Camaro for me. So maybe this will be the last thing to do to get the Pa title and Antique Plates.

I couldn’t help myself yesterday and did a little burnout in the garage. 😆

Looks like the posi works!
That it does!

Something I’ve noticed is a noise from the rearend. I don’t know if it’s normal or something to be concerned about. With the 4.10 gears and posi-traction it could just be a normal whirring noise. I’ll just keep an ear on it but like I’ve said before, I just need to drive it and learn what’s normal and not.

I'd check the fluid level just to be sure!

Since I put 50 miles on the Camaro over the weekend I decided I should get the Camaro up in the air and check some bolts over. Nothing appears to be loose, checked torque converter bolts and suspension bolts. I did find my rattle which was the exhaust hitting the driver side rear fender. I also found an emergency brake cable rubbing on the driver side tire, wore the black lettering down some on that tire. Listened to the rear end while I had my wife rev the engine up to 2,500rpm but didn’t hear anything abnormal. Maybe it was the emergency brake cable that was making the whirring noise. So I just took some heavy duty zip ties and strapped the emergency cable to the leaf spring since that part moves with the rear end anyway. Used a rubber mallet to flex the driver side exhaust away from the fender lip some more.

IMG_7040.jpeg

I’m going to put a shorter belt on the ac compressor to move the compressor away from the inner fender some more. The belt just seems loose so nothing to loose at this point.

I’ll also change the secondary springs on the Edelbrock to allow the secondary to open faster as it seemed to lag a little when I punched the gas pedal down while moving.

Just some small changes at a time to see if I can improve the driving experience.

I too like to give everything another once over after 50-100 miles. Just peace of mind if nothing else and allows eyes and hands on components once last time after a major overhaul or similar work. Camaro looks great by the way.
Thanks! I got a lot of compliments and several folks were taking photos of the car, it was nice to see kids looking like I did at the cars when I went with my dad to the car shows as a kid.

I like to check things over after a major repair job and considering this was a big project it gives me a peace of mind, specially all of the noise I’m hearing. You might call me paranoid as I have some fear of driving the car. Usually I look forward to driving anything I’ve worked on, but this Camaro just seems to have something over me that I can’t shake off. Maybe it’s the history of this car, of my family who is gone that watched this car sit for so long. Maybe it’s a fear of something happening that would cause damage or something. Hopefully it will pass as I continue to drive it.
Man that car looks good!

100% agree on the post some mileage inspections. Seen to many pics of aftermath from a loose suspension/driveline part.
Thank you!
You also mention another fear of mine. Did the past me forget something while building this car? Will the rear end hop out from under the car and I end up bouncing in the air to end up with the floor of the camaro on the asphalt!?! Or will a pulley go flying through the hood!?

Damn that fear……

Either way, I initially planned to go driving to a specific place this weekend, but I have became a victim of a typical childhood sickness. My youngest had a sickness recently which involved headaches, sore throat, and itchy feeling all over. Doctor didn’t know what it was but eventually it cleared up after a week. I figured maybe it was allergies as I was suffering from allergies with the pollens and so on. But then I got a sore throat and eventually I started developing rash spots and itchy hands and feet. Turns out I was diagnosed with hands, feet, and mouth disease. Apparently if you’ve never had it, you can get it as an adult and so here I am a victim of a typical childhood disease. Apparently young kids don’t always show all of the symptoms of hand, feet, and mouth disease. One of the symptoms that me and the youngest suffered with is lost of energy. So I pretty much just laid around the house as I am isolated from everyone due to the contagious of the disease.

I did make one outing this weekend and it was for a saving at Lowe’s. Several of my dewalt batteries has become weak due to age as some of them are from 2013. Apparently there was a sale on Dewalt batteries that I thought was good enough to jump on. I ended up getting 2x8ah batteries, 2x5ah batteries, a circular saw, and a jigsaw. When you buy the 2x 5ah batteries you get two free tools. I recently could have used the battery circular saw at the other garage and so it seems appropriate to get. Jigsaw was a grab as I didn’t need any of the other tools that was offered as I had them or really didn’t need them. The 2x8ah batteries were $200 for both and with the use of high energy consumption tools like the angle grinder, reciprocating saw, hedge trimmer and so on it just seemed a good deal.
IMG_7075.jpeg
IMG_7076.jpeg
I just did a curb pickup and just had the associate put it in the bed of the truck to reduce contact with the public. But after that outing, I was tired and so I didn’t open any of the boxes. Seems this disease drains the energy out of you. Supposedly, I should be free and no concerns with being contagious to the public come Tuesday/Wednesday.

You wont regret either of those tool purchases. I was given hand foot mouth from my kids as an Easter gift in 2018. I ended up being probably the sickest I have ever been in my life. 104-105 fever I couldnt shake , no energy, mouth full of blisters , it was awful. Hope you get feeling better soon and get back to the shop.

Luckily me or my youngest didn't developed the fever symptom or mouth blister. I do have blisters around my nose and when you have allergies that makes things very uncomfortable. But I hear you on the no energy part, man does it drain you! I'm currently on the uphill of this disease I think, so I'm just keeping my distance and drinking plenty of fluid as required by the doctor. My hands do look like I splattered maroon color paint on them along with my right foot. Such a strange pattern on how it wanted to develop!

Once you get past the fevers you tend to be not contaigious. As always frequent handwashing and minimizing contact with others is best way to prevent spread. Hit all the kids stuff with some lysol and all the hard surfaces in the house. Push fluids and don't forget to eat.
