Nothing much except more body work. I got the low spots repaired on the body of the camaro and then shot primer over those spots and sprayed a guide coat over the spot repairs on Saturday. I'll block the body again over the next few days as I wanted to give the primer a couple of days to cure. Still got the front bumper and the middle spoiler section to finish blocking too.



I also addressed afew small projects such as dealing with a body seam on the trunk lid. I forgot to take pictures but at the lip of the trunk is a seam that needed to be sealed and I forgot to get that done. But the last tube of sealer got hard on me and being how expensive that tube of sealer is, I wasn't impressed with the short shelf life it had. So, i figured I'd try vacuum sealing the new tube of sealer. One of these days we will find out if this makes a difference in the life of the stuff.



Then one of the drawers in the rental property came apart. The drawer is basically particle board and when they sent the photo of the broken drawer, I saw that the drawer was overstuffed with bowls and plates. When he said, "I don't know how that broke!" all I could do was laugh and think you sent me the evidence on why it broke bud. But either way it was a simple fix since I had a piece of wood of the same thickness and so I copied the broken part and then assembled it all with glue. I'll probably get the drawer back to them today as I was letting the glue cure yesterday.



So, like I said, just another typical weekend here with projects.

Well I got the last blocking done yesterday on the body and bumper covers. Just have the front fender extensions to sand. So I washed the car and all parts to be painted this morning and dried it all off. Gonna go over it some just to be sure I got it all, but it should be ready to go for paint when I get back from Texas!




I also washed the tires and rims. The white letter has become brown in color.


I also need to wire up a power switch for ignition and run the start button through the fire wall. When I removed the dash harness I decided to just leave it out since it was junk. Maybe I’ll get the temp wiring done tomorrow.

Got the temp ignition wire to distributor installed and got the start trigger in place. Went ahead and wrapped all of the parts in blankets to protect them. Then placed them all in the camaro for easy transport to my buddy’s shop.

Once I got the tires back on the car I dropped the camaro back down on all 4.


Then I placed the car cover on it to protect it til I come back from Texas.



I still got these 2 parts to sand but the primer is still fresh so I just left it alone.

Ahh, I forgot to say I put the rear crash bar on top of the front crash bar to just get it off the floor after I had washed it. All that metal gets hidden by the bumper covers once they are painted. Also the rear panel needs to be painted before that rear crash bar goes back on so I just left it off. I like the look of the 79 camaro front end, but I don’t like the cover material. Not much can be done other then get a fiberglass one and they aren’t any better.

I’ll be heading to Odessa this weekend to do a small service for my mom with her close friends and what family is left in that part of the world. Not looking forward to the weekend but I wanted to do a celebration of my moms life before I take her ashes to her final resting place in Alabama where she is from.

I saw that Odessa and Kermit got hit with enough snow that highway 302 came to a standstill. Course just a dusting would stop traffic in that area. Highway 302 would be the last place I’d want to get caught in snow! That highway is like a death wish highway with all of the sand haulers and impatient drivers.

Loading up the camaro and took it to the paint shop on Wednesday. Worked on it yesterday since he found some stuff I missed. Going back over today to continue working and mask it off for paint tomorrow. At least that’s the goal right now.

Today we got the red shot on the body, front bumper cover, and fender extensions. Tomorrow we will paint the rest of the small parts red and I’ll assemble the front bumper and cover on the camaro before loading the camaro on the trailer.

That’s the golden rule of any forum! Lol
Luckily I took a bunch of pictures so I’ll post a few of them.

This one is the first coat sprayed and it’s the sealer tinted with a little red. It created a Peptol Bismol color effect.


Then the base coat red and clear, it’s a 2012 F250 Vimillion Red code F1


Then I moved it to the other side of his car to put the front bumper and cover back on for the journey home. I have a picture of this, but I guess it’s too big for the forum. Then I got it loaded up on the trailer to take home this morning and got it back in it’s spot!




It’s been a lot of work getting it to this point, close to 40 hours total in the past 4 days along with working my day job on Thursday and Friday. I’m really happy with the color and can’t wait to finish the assembly to take it back to the paint shop for the dual stripes to break up the red.

Also, a pic of the other small bits waiting to be painted this morning. They got painted, but I didn’t get a picture of it all cause we both were in a hurry to go to other places by noon.


Now I’m just wanting to rest a few days and then I’ll start working on all of the other bits and pieces that needs to go back on the car!

Cody, the result is just amazing. I think Ford has cornered the market for red. Back in the day a good friend of mine bought a slightly used and abused '73 Corvette coupe and had it re-painted red. He chose Ford's 1975 Candy Apple Red, which made his car really stand out in a Corvette event.

Thank you, Chris! I try to get everything close to perfect mainly because I'll be looking at it. But also with this car, I just want it to be something to be proud of because it was something I started with my dad when I was in high school.

I do like a lot of Ford's red colors, and this one stood out with me since it's the same color of my truck. When the Camaro was taped off and just got done getting the clear coat, I was kind of sick to my stomach due to just how much red there was going on. It was overpowering my senses and I started questioning my decision. But once the taping came off, I started settling down and realize that once I get the black stripes on it, the red won't be so overpowering, and it will look sharp in the end! But first I got to get it back together so I can lay the stripes on the whole car and get it all aligned before taping the stripes off. In the meantime, I'm going to work on getting the car more street friendly.


Problem is I have a list of things to do and not sure which direction I want to start at! I need to write the list down and just start checking one off at a time.

Some progress on the camaro, I got the rear spoiler installed.
Then I got the side mirrors reassembled and installed



Then I got the license plate holder installed on the rear bumper cover and installed the bumper cover to the bumper.


I also started on restoring the tail lights. I ordered new lense, gasket, and trim rubber. So I needed to get the housing cleaned up and get the lens housing painted with chrome paint to make it more reflective inside.



Hopefully I get the tail lights back together tomorrow and I’ll start on painting the inside of the trunk with some roll on bed liner paint. Then once the bed liner is dry I’ll install the wiring and start the process on crimping each connection for the lights.

So I got the trunk dried out from washing it yesterday and got the Bedliner material rolled on. Hopefully it dulls down some but if not, I can spray over it I guess. Here is before shot and after. I might give it another coat or spray it with something else.



I also got the side markers lens installed. A little filing had to be done since this is a repop piece that I didn’t check the fit of the lens before paint.


I also painted the black section with plastic dye from SEM this morning and was able to get the driver side tail light assembled.




I have the emblem for the fuel door, but it’s not perfect so I’ll either repair it or buy new.

I also had a difficult time assembling the passenger side tail light and I found out I had an earlier style of tail light housing and it didn’t have the ribs on the edge that held the outer gap filler gasket properly. So I had to disassemble another passenger side tail light assembly and start over on getting it ready for assembly.

Maybe tomorrow I’ll have the passenger side done.

Need to clean out the inside and get the fuse block mounted from the wiring harness kit. This wiring job should be fun.




I went ahead and hung the bumper in place to get it out of the way. Would hate to knock it over and it get scratched up so safer to just have it hang on the back of the car.



Started looking through the parts I have for interior and figuring out what I need to get the interior finished. Gonna have to make a list soon to hit up swap meet for the parts.

Other then that I just sent time with the family and made some mice cookie for my youngest kid. New tweezer was bought just for this job.

If that is an American Autowire harness you are going to love it. They make fantastic products. I used them on the 64'. It was a great kit. Had to buy the crimping pliers but those were alot of fun to use too.

Yep it’s the American auto wire kit, those crimping pliers are expensive! But I wanted the job done right so got them. I haven’t started it yet but hopefully I’ll get it started in the near future, want to get the inside of the cab stripped down and all cleaning/painting done before I throw wires in the way. Might even get some sound deaden material to lay down also.

I need to polish the aluminum strips on the wheel but I keep putting it off as it's not a major thing right now.

No progress on the camaro as I've put off other chores the past month and I had to play catch up.

Father in law seems to have a desire for a fire this Christmas so I went to his place and grabbed a few trunk sections to split. They been cut for 2 years so they should be dry. I swept up the floor and kept the small pieces for fire starting material. Stacked the wood nicely in the garage to keep it dry since there’s a snow storm coming in the next few days. The little 5ton hydraulic splitter does a good job, just can’t do pieces bigger then 18” diameter without help. Also it seems to have a slow leak as it was severally low on hydraulic fluid. I recall it was leaking and I would just clean the fluid up when I went to the garage. Then one day it stopped and I never bothered checking it out. This is the second time I’ve used it so I’m not too concerned but now as I sit here in the office, I’m wondering how much is leaking on the floor by the camaro where it’s stored?

Stripped the rest of the wires out of the cab, removed the seatbelts and removed some loose bolts and screws in the floorboard. I’ll clean it up some tomorrow but this is far as I got with the short time I spent on it today.

Hurst Promatic 2 shifter?

Yea, a friend gave it to me a long time ago. As much as I like to play with it, it’s just more of a hassle for street purpose. I have a hurst dual gate shifter on my shelf that came with the camaro. I always planned to rebuild the dual gate shifter but I’m not too sure if I want to take that project on. Hurst used to offer a service to rebuild the shifters but I haven’t seen it for dual gate shifter the past couple of years. Might have to call Holley and see if they offer the service still.

Yep, that’s another reason for the sound deadening, insulation! With the headers and the plans to install the exhaust as close to the floor as possible I figured heat would be an issue in the footwell area. Plus I plan to put it on the door after I install the glass, power window motor, and door locks to help make the doors sound solid instead of the tin can sound they make. Oh and it will go on the roof too before I install the headliner.

Just a few new tools. Working on the inside of the camaro was difficult with having to hold a spot light. My flood lights all seemed to fail since using them last year which is odd. So instead of messing around with them I dropped the $30 with 20% off coupon for this LED flood light. It has its own base but it can also attach the the flood light stand I have which is nice. But for the camaro I placed it on the rear tray shelf and man did it lit the cab up!






Also I got a right angle M12 drill with the shortest bits I could find for a project on the camaro, it’s short but I’m not 100% sure if it will fit in the grill opening, we will see soon.



That’s all I got for now as I was busy with preparing for the nice cold weather we are to get this weekend.

Sounds like electric arcs to me, but then again I barely hear the sound of bacon frying. But I sure can smell it!

So after reviews and narrowing down what I realistically needed from a MIG welder, I finally settled on a Hobart Handler 210MVP. I’m gonna do some reading of the manual and finish setup either tomorrow or Saturday. Gonna have to change out the outlet for the right plug but luckily I have an adaptor for the 230v outlet for now.

So, I fired up the welder after getting it all setup. Then I welded up the holes in the floor. The 1/8” holes was mostly easy, but I still had one that got away from me and was blowing out constantly. Then welding up the 3/8” was so so, I got them filled in but glad I was able to grind them down! None the less, I got the holes filled that needed filling, the other 3/8” holes will stay in case I want to put the driveshaft loop back in. I got some rubber plugs on order for those holes.

Then I installed the floor drains and painted all the bare metal I could find with some gloss black paint. Tomorrow I’ll clean the floor up, remove the remaining insulation and then wipe it all down with wax and grease remover to prepare for the roll on sound deadner.

Progress, but still got to roll it all out with the rollers. At first i was sticking a sheet on and roll. Eventually I was slowing down due to having to stop, get rollers, put roller down, start another sheet. along with I was talking to family as I was sticking the rest of the sheets on and those rollers was making a lot of noise while I was on the phone. Still need to go higher up under the dash area on the firewall, along with the side panels in the foot well, and under the shifter area. But if I do the roof and doors I’ll have to get another box as I’m running low on material.

So, I took measurements of my garage and upon my wife’s suggestion she said I should add another garage door. I also need to tear down the wall by the utility room some more so that area in front of the new garage door will be big enough to park a car there.

This is the section of the wall that needs to be cleared for a new garage door. I won’t get the door installed soon, but to prepare for a door to be there I’m going to clear this wall off and keep it clear. Along with I’m gonna start organizing the rest of the garage some more to make everything fit along the back wall. Looking at putting cabinets or shelves up high on the wall for stuff that rarely gets used but comes in hand when doing home projects and what not.


This is the wall that needs to be knocked down, from the corner to that electrical outlet between the stands.


Also with the recent news of shady folks walking the neighborhood and checking for unlocked cars, I figured I’d better make it easier to keep the garage door locked. So I installed the keypad deadbolt so we don’t have to carry a key for the lock. Will see how this works out.


Since trash night is coming up, I just worked on picking stuff out that’s junk and loaded it on my little trailer to haul it up to the curb tomorrow night.

Other then putting the camaro on jack stands, that’s about all the work I got done.

Well, like I said, the end plans are to install another garage door here. So, I relocated the deep freezer and threw away the table that was here. Been slowly picking at the contents in the cabinet but I'm not 100% sure where I can put it all at right now. Then I'll need to move the deer heads/skulls. Most of these was my father's collection of skulls from hunts and so on. I threw them on this wall back in the summer just to get them off the floor. Well now I'm uncertain of where to put them. I'm thinking the shoulder mount of my dad's might be coming in the house along with the nice European mount skull of mine.

The more I look at this wall, the more I keep thinking there's a header already there due to how that part of the wall is sunken in the overall wall. That column that's sticking out from the wall seems to be solid steel or concrete as the drill bit wasn't going through it. I really don't have any idea what is behind that drywall around the column. For all I know, it could be a small dead body.....

Then there's the 3 windows that has insulation on the other side, which is where the brick wall is on the outside. At one time this garage was cinder block faced on the outside and then eventually the previous owner put a brick face on the front part of the building. I have a lot of questions for the previous owner about this property but unfortunately I can't ask him.

It wiring time!




I went ahead and installed the fuse block, just to have a starting point of the rear harness. I’ll have to take it back off to wrap the thick part of the wiring with wire loom.

Wrapped the rear harness with loom and routed it along the channel.


Then I worked on crimping the terminal for each wire and inserted them all in the correct pigtail. Then wrapped it all with wire loom and clipped it in place.




I went ahead and installed the tail lights after I got the fuel sender unit wire in place.



Now I need to drop the fuel tank to connect the fuel sender wire and then adjust the bumper properly to close the gap between the tail light and bumper.

Had to stop there to go play with the youngest. She seems to like this connect toy from fisher that I got at an estate sale a long time ago. Maybe I should invest in the k’net toys?
