Where did you find the rebuild parts? My CH was bought in the early 90's from Harbor Freight, and it seems to be taking a longer time to pump up.

CH parts department had all the parts in stock. Mine took a long time to pump up and found a broken part in the valve assembly. I honed mine new rings , valve kit and gaskets and seals $70.00 shipped to door

I almost shiat my pants! I have almost the same unit xcept that it's a pressure lubricated unit and 7.5 hp motor. I hope you put some dissecant in it. I had an older ch unit that after 3 yrs in storage, it developed a pin hole in the tank. I poured some linseed oil inside my tank to coat the bottom in order to delay any rust from messing my beautiful Quincy. I drained it for several days and is all good. Now I have to work on getting that moisture down. Too g'damned humid in the PNW area.

Here's a compressor I picked up off a demo job a few weeks ago. This is what I started with:



I knew it needed to replace the motor with a single phase, but unfortunately the tank had several pinholes, and interior inspection showed a lot of rust, so a new Steel Fab tank was added. It's a Kellogg American 332 pump with 5HP Baldor motor, the original 4 3/4" pulley was replaced with a 6 3/4" for a pump speed of 647 RPM. According to the pump chart, that should put it about 20CFM @ 175psi.

Very Nice, I have a 335 and it's great. Very quiet too.

I'm curious why you didn't switch to vertical? It uses so much less floor space.

Yeah, horizontal space. I have a smaller garage, and while the floor space is premium, so is shelf space. I have a high ceiling, and utilize a lot of shelving for storage, and the compressor sits under shelving. The longer top plate I'd need to accommodate the belt guard wouldn't save me that much space horizontally. And the primary reason is that when I convert the garage to paint booth mode, I can put the saddle feet on furniture dollies and rotate the compressor 180 degrees out to the driveway, keeping the motor out harms way from flammable vapor. The compressor is tethered to the disconnect with a portable power cord, and I use a longer hose to connect to air. I know I could do this with a vertical tank, but the pump is 200 lbs., and the motor and belt guard add another 100, I think a vertical would be more top heavy than I want to move around. For impractical reasons, I think horizontal compressors are much more esthetically pleasing than verticals. If I ever get a bigger garage, I'll put it on a proper housekeeping pad.

I used a small piece of 1/4" plate to make a flange, then crushed the end of a piece of 1" black pipe and welded it on to make an adapter for my craftsman.

Thanks for the pictures from both posts. THe current filter is a friction fit, there are no threaded holes. The cooling fins are open on the back side, so will likely build adapter plate, then drill and tap the fin. I'll use studs for mounting the plate.

It worked ok but I could never get it to hold pressure when the compressor was off, I ended up installing a 1/4 turn valve on the outlet of the compressor and got into the habit of shutting it off when I left the shop.
