Hello Everyone This is my first post here, but I've been a long time lurker. My name is Moses and I live in Los Angeles Here is my Franken compressor. I bought the compressor on Craigslist for $225. turned out a piece of the reed valve had fell into the high pressure side and seized the pump. I was going to rebuild it but thought it would be better to just buy a new one. I settled on a 5hp 3 cylinder single phase pump from Eaton. I mainly do body work and paint.

I sanded and Sprayed SPI epoxy Primer followed by some single stage Kirker ultra-glo I had around.

Now I have a dilemma I was given a Dresser Leroi 400 series compressor with a 30 gallon tank. It was gas driven and the previous owner ran the motor without oil and ruined it. So I'm thinking of replacing the eaton pump with that one, or just buy another motor and keep it at my brothers. It would hardly ever see use there.

What a great idea! A fan. How come I rarely if ever see any others doing this?

IR 2475 80gal Pump, Motor, and Tank are all on rubber pads then bolted to the concrete. Intake was damaged I made one out of a autozone filter 2" and 1.5" Pvc stainless: screen, scrubbers and screws. Painted it gloss black. There's an additional 44gal tank all connections are 3/4" hydraulic hoses and 15' of 1" black iron pipe sloped to a sharpe filter and 3/8 automotive plugs... Going to add a 1" cross over to the opposite side of our shop space

Definitely don't have to worry about inlet restriction with that filter!
Is that a ball valve on the bottom of the inlet?

Yes I had it laying around and it fit most of my fitting are brass or steel taped and doped im still debating on adding a second intake outside pvc is cheap so I'd like to keep my options open it's very quiet with the intake and rubber mounts. Zero flow issue intake to the tool. And super clean air with little water. I wanted to do it properly

This is one I was working on last week, 1952 Brown-Boveri, 6000hp. 23,000cfm @ 100psig.

This is not the biggest machine we have....

Hey MacMcMacmac, could you please post some pics of the HF retractable reels that this is connected to? Also, did you upgrade the hoses to the goodyears, or are you still running the stock Red HF ones? :spit:

I have a new Quincy which is quite nice and supplies all the air I could ever need

But I have a much cooler air compressor built in 1945 and surprisingly it still runs. The compressor unit needs a rebuild as it doesn't build pressure over 30psi. But it's still cool. I'd rebuild it if I could find the necessary rings etc. but more than likely I'm going to sell it

Just picked up a used IR single stage 3hp 60gallon tank.
In very good shape.

Fires right up and seems to build air pretty quick.
Guy chases auctions so it was cheap to him and very reasonable to me.
Paid $400 and an additional $20 bought me a brand new Quincy 7639 auto blow down. from the little I can find those blow downs aint cheap so that helps on the overall price.

Having my new shop I will have to decide how I want it all ran but I had my last compressor, coleman 30 gallon oiless, in a shed outside my last house and piped with a nice manifold. I will likely do the same with this one but had to grab it before it was gone. It will be interesting to see how well it handles my media blast cabinets appetite for air, but I think it should do fine.

Nothing special or historic, but I did just finish building a ventilated cabinet for it. Going to add egg-crate foam to it too, to further dampen its rude noise.

I added a fan on mine. Now I want to add a delayed off timer. I want it to run for 10 min or so in the summer and 5 in the winter.

This is my freebie DevAir that I got back in 2011. It was in a plant that had a fire and we did the salvage of the whole thing. The motor and pressure switch had some parts melted as well as the air filter and the tank paint was very discoloured from smoke. I know that air pumps run hot anyway so I took a risk and put a new motor on it after draining the oil. It ran great and has been running ever since. I painted the whole thing and it now sits in my new shop area. I have the belt guard but never bothered with it. It needs a really good cleaning and paint.

Picked up an old compressor from a friend and barter some future labor to get it. Had to recondition it some as it was a little rough. After some work and a new coat of paint I installed it in the garage. Wired it to a shutoff switch and pull a line off one leg to hook up a red light so I wouldn't forget to shut it off. Not a high capacity air pump but for running a few air tools it does a good job

This is my work in progress. 80 gal tank, twin compressors. One will be pressure switch driven, and the other will be unloaded, depending on amount of air needed.

Finally upgrading from a 25gal oil-less craftsman, that didn't have enough gusto to run the blast cabinet. Picked up the whole setup, sans motors for $300 on Craigslist.

Wooden boards on the base allow me to pick it up and move it with the pallet jack.

I added these cooling fans to the head controlled by a thermostat.

The thermostat is pretty nice. It has more settings than I need and it is confusing to program but it does work well. The temp sensor I used a high temp rtv. it seems to be working well so far.

I like the fan idea. I put an old 115VAC industrial computer fan on top of the head of my old Craftsman compressor. No thermostat, just plugged it in if I was going to do sandblasting or something that would make it run a lot.

Here's my Husky C331H "polished turd" contribution. The main goal was to be able to quickly remove the main line and auto drain so I can easily take it to places.

The compressor is buried in a closet off of the garage to save space and reduce noise, so I have it on a 20amp circuit with a 120min timer for easy reach and to prevent me or the wife from forgetting to turn it off just incase there's a leak. The auto drain is connected to a Husky drain extention wuth a quick release connection and is on the timer so that it won't waist air when not in use. The hose runs outside to cut down on noise and the 1/8" barb fitting is just in case the hose gets clogged. I just finished installing the hour meters, the top one is coming off of the rotary wall timer while the bottom is off of the compressor's pressure switch and were added for my own amusement. Of course the top one doesn't accurately depict the true usage time since the timer could be on while the tool is not continuously being used.

The main shutoff is a N.C. 120vac 10-250psi JD Gould M3V valve which is also on the same timer as everything else. Eventually I'll add another outlet and get rid of the tacky 3 plug outlet. Found the valve on the eBay machine plus another for $50.

Regulator and Husky hose reel on a quick release so I can take it with me to Rallies.

Here's a video I took back when I first bought the compressor, it's about 70 decibels based on a phone app with the hollow closet door closed.

This my "thumper". I was given this 18 years ago by my uncle. I worked in his truck shop for 14 years. When he replaced this unit with a newer model he got tired of looking at it and said take it home I am tired of looking at it. So I did.

This is the big behemoth that came with the Jeep Cave... 240V, 5 HP motor, no idea how many gallons.

It keeps up just fine with both air over hydraulic in-ground lifts and the most hungry air tools.

My compressor - an Eagle 3 cylinder, single stage. Does 18.5cfm @ 90 psi and easily runs all my air tools. I installed Solberg air filters along with 2 x 90 bends per each. I expected a big reduction in noise but didn't get as much as I hoped but still better than it was. Also have a stall mat for noise reduction. I installed a HF auto drain. It works great but not sure if I can keep it on. I have just installed a new unloader valve and the motor seems to struggle a little on startup and it didn't before. Might be that the puff of air to make the auto drain work is interfering with the unloader valve. Need to look into it.

What makes this a great compressor is the sticker that says "High Output". Can't really ask for more... ;)

Before you remove it from the pallet, you may want to modify your tank drain (I imagine it has one of those $3 petcock fittings). With those tanks that have that full skirt around the bottom, it's almost impossible to access or work on the tank drain due to the limited access through that small cutout they give you.

If you leave it on the pallet and maybe cut the piece of board out that is right below the drain valve, you will have some more working room to either add an automatic drain valve, or a better manual drain valve like a ball valve.

If you are going to have the compressor in an unheated shop where the floor area could be below freezing, then one has to be careful about modifying the tank drain, such as adding an elbow and then horizontal section of pipe with a ball valve outside the tank skirt where it can be easily accessed. This works great, but the downside is that entire pipe can be full of water which can freeze. Of course with an auto tank drain, hopefully there is never a buildup of that much condensation.

And it's nice to have neighbors with a forklift!
