I would sit it on a pallet type of stand, bolt it to the wood . Have the wood sit on top of a rubber pad. The pad could be made from several items like a piece of tire (tyre) cut into squares and placed under the pallet, or you can find chunks of rubber for shock absorbers. I have seen hockey pucks used, just something that will absorb the vibration.
If you have the room you might even hang it from the celling with wire cables or a rope that can handle that weight?:dunno:

Just joined...
Started a thread in hope to get some ideas for a small one car garage.
I don't have my compressor hooked up yet in this "new to me" small garage.
I think I will have to locate it outside as I have no room anymore ;)

Down sizing ***** ....

Welcome to the club!

That QT5 belongs inside and on a pedestal. I have my QT7 as such. :rocker::rocker::rocker:

Thanks, yes inside would be nice... but its tight in a one car garage.
I need to figure out how to make some room.

Thanks!

Just a practical question. The new Javac stands on ceramic tiles (our garage floor) and I would not like to drill in them (floor heating). But while busy (but nicely rather silent) the new compressor likes to go walkabout as the Aussies call it. It moves forward slowly but constantly as the cohesion between the rubber plugs and floor is to low.
On the back side it has wheels and on the front rubber plugs to stand on.
Any ideas to keep it rock solid without drilling etc?

Thom

Here in the states we can get rubber on cork vibration pads for $7 each. That may do it for you. More expensive pads are made out of neoprene. I think the smoothness of your tile may be contributing to it walking.

how tall is your ceiling? You could rack it...

Hmmm... The compressor is a heavy beast. As you would know... It is industrial. Needed a picker to get it on the truck. Two guys cant handle it.

Unless I am just a wimp. I would be afraid to try such a feat.

In trying to keep an open mind I went in and took a look. I would consider or be comfortable with raising it up in a corner. However I don't think I would gain much room.
I think I can get up about 3-4' by cutting a hole in the rafters I built. It would give me a little storage underneath. Its an option...

Agreed. My QT7 is a big heavy boy. I was trying to give you ideas as I do not know if you had access to a forklift or something similar.

Would be a lot more manageable if you removed the motor and pump and then reinstalled once you get it in place.

I just got it functional yesterday but wow that big boy is filling up the tank really fast !

If you want to see the installation/wiring of my compressor, you can go here to see lot of photos I took of during the process :

Here's my new-to-me compressor the day I bought it.

IMG_20161013_222456.jpg

And here it is, now after an oil change, a new starter and a pressure switch. I made another pallet for it to sit on, too. I hope to have air lines and a regulator run in the shop, this weekend. It's nice to have lots of air.

I have some plans for it: a silencer and an acoustic curtain.

My new old compressor.

A 1968 vintage Atlas Copco KT4 with 150 Liter vertical tank.

5,5 Hp 400v 3-phase motor, 2 cylinder 2 stage cast iron pump. 550L/min theoretically, max 14 bar/200PSI. In practice probably 450-ish L/min - 15-16 CFM.

Bought it running quite nicely. Discovered the motor bearings were worn enough to warrant replacement, found some bad wiring i'm correcting, at the same time adding an ABB softstarter relay and better thermal protection. Oh and also painted stuff when I had the motor etc apart. Took some effort to get the hammertone paint to look as I wanted it.

Only thing wrong with it was that it ingested a lot of wood/saw-dust. The filter wasn't cleaned often enough (coarse Mann filter). Will update it to some kind of filter from some kind of small Kubota engine. Should also make it even more silent. Pump runs slow.

Cleaned the pistons+rings and valves and of course things look used, 50 years later, but still i good shape. Tank had almost no rust.

Plan is to use it for sandblasting etc.

Edit: belt guard will be fitted before use!

Here is the Ram Compressor I got new back in 85' from the Snap on man. Still running the original motor but I have had to replace start caps a few times. The reed plate in the compressor gave out a few years back also but it was still available from a local supplier. It works pretty good. I also keep an Ingersol Rand 5hp compressor that was new in 88' behind it for back up and for those days when there just isn't quite enough air. Both are plumbed into the shop air system and are on small dollies so I can roll them out for service. Ed.

Just a cheapo but I got it cheap and it hardly has any use on it. Still need to put a water trap and drain, along with a new pressure reg.

With the small size of that secondary piston, I would guess that this is a high-pressure (and low-CFM) pump, possibly for SCUBA tanks? I'm not familiar with what those types of pumps look like so this is a guess.

"possibly for SCUBA tanks" my thought on it also. The pressure setting on the pressure relief valve should give a clue if it will pump in the 2,000 psi neighborhood necessary for dive tanks. Still need good oil and water scavenger units to clean up output before breathing it.

If I had to guess I'd also suggest high pressure air. Likely a 3 stage compressor by the looks of it. I've got a scuba compressor in my garage as well.

My new to me Westinghouse 2yc I picked up for 75 bucks with a 2hp induction repulshion start century motor. Repainted the pump and cleaned the valves. Works excellent and I reused my quincy motor sheave to spin the pump at 698rpms. Fills my 80 gallon tank to 165psi in 7 1/2 Mins. Still have my quincy 325 just needs a little work to the valve to run again. I'm always having valve issues with the quincy

Will, do you not have any regulators or water filters on this setup? Can you show more of your air system, like the down drops? thanks.

I have a main regulator with water separator on the tank made by Wilkerson. I have five drops, each with a regulator. Two air reels, 1/2 ID tired to the main regulator. Each of the five drops has two connections. The system is a rapid Air, one inch pipe in a loop configuration.
