Ive signed the contract to get the garage built. We will be breaking ground in about 3 weeks once the permits are obtained.
We will be doing some things ourselves. I want to spray foam the outside walls, ceiling and floor of the second floor. Does anyone know of a web link or you tube that describes in great detail how to do the spray insulation ? Ive seen bits and pieces .. but none show start to finish including ventilation. It would help if anyone who has done the upper outer walls, floor and ceiling of a 24x24 with a 12/12 pitch with foam could provide an approximate amount of material Id need to get the job done. Also I cant find out if its actually mandatory to spray the foam AND use batts on outer walls.
The floor and trim work is also something we'll be doing. Dad; 82, in great shape was a woodworker for - well a long time, can help me with the trim and we are going with a vinyl wood grain plank self stick floating floor that we will be doing. The trim should be pretty easy .. 45's mainly and I'm not going to add any casing on the two windows so just the sills which should also be pretty easy. Only thing I don't know how to do is the stairs trim, the string or stringer.
If its new construction and they leave a one inch gap between the drywall and steps to install the string, why cant one just add the stringer prior to doing the drywall ?
Thanks for comments and help ?
