Coval Concrete Install Review

I thought I would post a quick thread on my experience installing Coval Concrete on my shop floor. I just finished up Friday doing 2/3 of my floor. Overall it was a good experience and we will see how well it holds up.

I purchased it from Armorpoxy this spring. I also got a low VOC epoxy coating from them for a room in my basement. Good experiences with them on both fronts.

My slab was poured about 18 months ago. I kept it covered knowing I would coat it eventually. It still had some character aleady even with keeping it covered.

I wasn't confident in Epoxy or similar to hold up like I would want it to. I of course don't know how well this will hold up either, but I thought going with something clear would be best. After reading about Coval and Ballistix here I decided to go with Coval. I chose to go with the Satin finish. I think that I would still go with that, definitely would not do gloss and may consider matte.

As with most things the prep is the most work. I had considered pressure washing it, but decided against it. I sweeper, vacuumed, used acetone with a green scrub pad, and cleaned it twice with acetone on a microfiber pad and called it good.

I did two coats of primer as was recommended and one of top coat. Using an acetone sprayer with a grey tip worked out fine for both spraying in a circular motion. I may have to get another sprayer for the second round even with having cleaned it out, but we will see. Definitely heed the wearing on how bad this stuff is. I went through 3 sets of respirator filters and by the end should have changed a 4th time. I definitely could feel the effects of it afterwards.

I am happy with how it turned out, is it perfect no, but it looks great to me and we will see how it holds up.

There is also good information in this thread from another member.

Hopefully this helps someone else making a decision. Now I am off to fill relief cuts with RS-88.

Thank you.

I do have some, not sure about great :). Here are a couple of befores on the original section I posted above. Here are some before and after on the final section. It also turned out well. I am very happy overall. Also overall happy with how the RS-88 joint filler worked. I used pewter color and it matches well overall.

The main difference is that Ghostshield is a penetrating product that makes zero changes to the surface since it soaks in do you don’t see much change after application. It also is t as easy to clean because of that since the floor can still dust a tad. GS is a great product if you weld since nothing to burn or get discolored.

Coval is a topical coating that gives the floor a new shiny appearance and is very easy to clean so completely different results between the products.

Both products protect the floor from liquids.

So far I am happy with it, but it is early. So far has been great wiping up oil which was my main purpose of doing it to make it easy to cleanm

No new pictures it is all full at this point.

Will it scratch, yes, but I expected this and it isn't bad overall for some of the wear and tear from moving alot of stuff in.

Thank you.

If the Coval does scratch it can be easily recoated with just spraying down again in that area.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. ;^) Any updates on the durablity of your Coval floor? Got a new garage (with a house attached to it) and was looking for something simple and easy to make the existing floor easier to keep clean.

So this product that was applied sits on top of the concrete or does in penetrate.

Hi, Coval is a topical coating, it does not penetrate like Ghostshield which we also carry.

I don't use my shop everyday yet, but so far still happy with it. Have scratched up a few spots moving stuff in and out and getting a rock caught in a wheel here and there. Typically it will rub out with a microfiber cloth and water. I haven't tried touching spots up yet, may down the road.

I would still recommend it.

Can you comment on what prep needs to be done before applying after Ghostshield or Formula 137? The TDS for Coval Concrete implies that it might be fine.

From my understanding, the No Prep Primer is intended for concrete with such applications. However, I would recommend contacting them directly to verify.
