Just came here to post this up, been watching the 299 and 308 piece sets since about Nov. '13. I don't have a sears card, so final price was $305 + tax using the SEARS35OFF300 code.

Plus thru this year you get $10/month through the tool of the month deal (since it costs more than $199), so you could say there's an additional $120 off...

to those asking about country of origin, this was a recent review-

Greatest Set Of Sockets!
I purchased this set for $215, the Tech Student discount is amazing! I grew up on using Craftsman tools my entire life, same with my father. This set is as complete as you can get. All of my sockets were stamped U.S.A. which is excellent. I use Craftsman tools professionally every day and they definitely hold up to the abuse no matter what anyone says. Every one of my sockets were mint, even with the shady packaging. No chrome peeling, rusting, etc. Don't bother reading the bad reviews, this is the only one you will need to look over. I have had these sockets for a few months now and they still perform and look great. Can't beat the warranty, and you definitely will NOT beat the price. I would have easily paid $500 for the set, but took advantage of my discount. My father and I have backed Craftsman for over 50 years and the tools still live up to their name!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

On top of the $35 off, I had $50 in surprise points and another coupon for $30 back in points. Basically cost me $240 after tax. How can you argue with that?

Well, I bought mine just after Christmas and it was all USA made. All the sockets were in the kit (I printed off a checklist) and only 2 need exchanged. One the chrome is thin, and the other has a sharp edge. All the rest are fine. You're not going to beat that set for the price.

All told very happy.

I can't seem to find it but how many of the HF socket holders do I need? 2 standard and 2 metric.

I have every chrome socket craftsman offers in 1/4" thru 1/2" drives. I don't know about HF, but 2 sets each (SAE & Metric) of Kobalt's trays hold almost all of them. They will hold them all if you are willing to put a few on the "wrong" pegs. They're only $5 a pop, so you get in only $20 deep on socket organization.

If you want to have a good laugh or just want to see how whinny some people are click on the sears web site, in the first reply of this thread, and then click on the arrow head that says videos and demos.

This guy is complaining about the socket set NOT coming with a rachet.

He says that his wife bought it for him as a gift, but she must have NOT read the ad enough to realize that it was for only sockets and not a rachet.

He also complains about a couple of other things about the sockets, which you won't believe.

I can't believe the things that some so called grown ups complain about.

I'd tell his wife that if he complained to me about the sockets, I'd pack up his clothes and send him back home to mommy and daddy and they could keep him until he started to act like a man, which would probably NEVER be, instead of a crying little boy.

His tool collection must be nothing more than a hammer, screwdriver, a pair of pliers, a couple of end wrenches and a few nuts and bolts.

I purchased this set back in May of 2012 for $260. Its worth every penny. All made in USA. I was missing a couple sockets and a few were missing the laser marking, so make sure you account for every single one. There is a paper inside the set that has what it should include with a part number for each socket. There's also a phone number that you call to get the missing/damaged sockets. I had the replacements about 4 days later!

I would be very surprised if this set is not made in the USA. I notice that the stuff in the store seems to be china made, but everything i have ordered online has been made in USA.

I use the HF socket holders. You will need 2 Metric and 2 Standard. You will have some empty pegs, and some that are to large. But the far majority will be on the pegs.

i believe it's 50% off the "regular" price or 5% off sale price. should work on most craftsman mechanic tools/sets.

It's 20% off regular, 5% off sale price tools at Sears with student ID. The 50% off is a one-time use card professors hand out, good for one tool box and one tool set, in store only off regular price.

you must be right as i only saw a flyer on sears web site last night and you know how flyers from stores show the best case scenario ...

Just ordered this set, will update with COO when it gets here Thursday. On sale for $340, used the student discount to knock it down to $271(20% off, this must not be considered on sale, as the coupon is only 5% off sale items). Total of $290 with tax and free shipping. Student discount would not stack with 35 off 300 coupon.

Weird, I used the 20% off student discount and it only took 5% off so it was a better option to use the 35 off 300, $320 with tax, but oh well, still a good deal!

I used the 5% discount, and it gave me 20%.

Got mine today as well! They all appear to be dual marked and USA-made. Part of my box was damaged, but I don't think anything fell out. I'll have to go through it here in a couple of days...

dual marked being both stamped and laser etched? i thought comments for the larger 308 piece set read the 299 set sockets aren't stamped?

At one time they weren't, and that's why the title still reads "Easy Read". I read that some members on here got dual marked sockets, so I took a gamble. Sure enough, they're both stamped and etched!

They've been dual marked in this set for a couple years at least. Some of the smaller "combined" kits are only stamped though.

I just received mine and yes dual marked and usa. I found the chrome to be fine. I had a few missing sockets and some doubles. As well as a 15mm not etched or stamped. Called and they are sending me the replacements. I am happy.

Still going through these, I've been very happy so far. I will admit the plating does seem to be a bit inconsistent color wise, but not enough to complain about. So far 1 of the etched markings seems messed up enough that I may work on a replacement.

I came to post that I'm using the harbor freight plastic socket rails, and in the end it seems I'll need 11 packs of them. The issue is the 1/2" drive sockets- there's a lot of them and each rail pack only has (12) 1/2" pegs.
