Is this guy a CL dreamer or a stinkin' genius? $100 locally on CL. Definitely not my thing but I realize one man's junk is another man's treasure. I know it's not as over the top as many things posted in the thread.

Too many examples here in south Texas. Everyone wants what they paid for their Tool box brand new. And they literally have it for sale for 3 to 5 years and still have not sold it.

Concerning the FREE DISHWASHER, and 2 other NOT FREE dishwashers

Remember this dishwasher? it was the free one. I had 2 others that were under boxes that were NOT free. THe ONE PICTURED WAS THE FREE ONE. dont you think the one in the picture was the free one?!? come on people!
By the way, Im not sure if those 2 that were NOT PICTURED were working properly, I was working on them. next time you go after something free on craigslist, only go after whats PICTURED.

I will forgive you as I did not make myself clear that the others were not free, so I will NOT turn in the security footage of you taking the ones NOT IN THE PICTURE!

There seems to be fewer postings on Craigslist lately, but no lack of dreamers. Here’s a bench top Homecraft drill press that is listed for $700 locally. I don’t think he will be getting very many inquiries about it.

The ad reads,

“Works great. Sturdy, reliable. No issues. Attached to sturdy stand. Drill press vice included. Instruction booklet available to purchase on Amazon.
Serious inquires only.”

Beats me. I hate **** that's old, except for myself of course. I truly do not believe that I've ever bought anything other than a car that was used and that was only my first one. I don't live in the past and I firmly believe that the good old days primarily sucked. Restoring a car never appealed to me (except I do like to paint them as that's my thing) as whatever it was back in the day can be found new and will be faster, cooler, and more reliable. Take a 1969 charger vs. a Hellcat. You can spend $75,000 to restore a rusted out 1969 charger that's still at the end of the day a 1969 charger or you can spend your $75,000 on a Hellcat that's got 600 HP and five seconds faster in the quarter mile and handles a hell of a lot better because the suspension is superior. I'm not one for nostalgia. You can do your hand cut dovetails and chisel things out. I’ll use my Leigh jig and a router. Oh my, he has a vintage Monarch lathe, yea that’s nice, give me a Haas CNC. I guess I’m just a heartless unfeeling engineer when it comes right down to it. Well we are what we are.

It's getting to be a real **** show in Phoenix. Not sure where these people got the idea that their stuff was worth its weight in gold, but even if it doesn't sell for 6 months, they never relent. Here's three different sellers, all out of their minds:

We have a dreamer in Chicago that's been posting a similar (but much crappier model) Craftsman DP for over a year now at $500.

This Idealarc 250 has been listed for nearly a year now, along with a long-winded essay about how it's not an AC-225.

I also recently saw a Reed 406r vise listed for $1500(!) the ad disappeared after a day so someone may have even bought it.

Most I have seen one listed for yet.

You gotta love it when the seller asking 5x what it's worth says "no text messages or emails" but the literal only contact info in the listing is an email. What a @#$%ing idiot.

I’ve run across ads where the seller apparently didn’t realize that they did not provide any way at all for someone to contact them. It makes me wonder if they are really that inept, or if the wife told them that they had to sell some of their equipment but they really didn’t have any intention of selling it after all. So they place the ad and tell their wife they did but that nobody has contacted them.

Well, send an e-mail and offer to pay his ridiculous asking price and I expect he will accept and reply to that.

There is no way to reply. When you hit the reply button it does nothing. Ya, an idiot he certainly is.
When you hit the Reply button you should have got a verification request where you identify pics with bikes, or boats, etc. I found the sellers phone number, the CL email address, and a list of his other overpriced machines:

Its worth what you can sell it for. I think he's smoking crack, but who knows. Maybe theres Simone else out there smoking more crack than he is. Gotta feed the habit someway.

Here's another example of lunacy:

On what planet is this considered light surface rust or amazing shape for its age? :headscrat

This is Arizona and the only way it's going to look like that is if you left it outside for a few decades, or submerged it in a lake. :dunno:

Might be worth $450 if it was restored, but as is, I think there's one too many zeroes on that price.🧐
On the international harvester truck forums. If I found a tailgate for a stepside bed in that condition, I'd call it pristine! IH parts are "factory perfect" so long as there are no more than 2 or 3 holes rusted through.

So aside from the rust issues...That is actually a not-out-or-line price. The crowntop boxes were only available for 2 years 58-59, before they swapped to the grey/red. Too far away for me, but I would love to find a 10d top to match the bottom roller I have, even in that condition.

Here on the eastern edge of the Pacific Ocean, western edge of the continent, that’s light surface rust. I still wouldn’t pay $450, but it’s great shape compared to one I saw Saturday.

Well, the seller can always hope an out of state collector who doesn't know any better, Jonesing for a 58-59 vintage box, who doesn't care that it's in boat anchor condition, will jump on it and pay top dollar. I wouldn't hold my breath, but that's just my $.02 worth.

All kidding aside, that's seriously the worst condition I have ever seen in years of watching and I would bet the seller picked this up for $40 at a yard sale, if even that much.

Some of these are various kinds of scams.SSome are harvesting emails or phone numbers. Some try to grift the owners of those some time in the future. The more confusing ones are probanly running some grift that we don't understand. There is a reason for it. We just don't know what it is.

I wondered about the email harvesting scammers. Whenever I post a new Craigslist ad almost always I get a reply from one or two scammers first asking me to respond to their email address @whatever. Or they say they will send me a code and I am supposed to respond back with a code number to “verify that I am real”. I wondered why they do this, and so I looked it up. This is what I found:

Basically under the right circumstances they can get access to your google, yahoo, or hotmail email account, change your password, and lock you out of your own account. Then they can go through all of your emails and if you do electronic banking they may be able to find your account information in your emails and empty your bank account. Clever, and slimy.

I understand that there are tricks where they can try to con the cellular provider into porting a cell phone number as well. It's often used to hack two factor authentication although the phone companies are getting wiser.

Local craigslister has had a machine listed for nearly a year; started at 4X what it's worth. He lowers the asking price $100 each month. In another two years he'll be down to where it should have been listed in the first place, but we'll have been having to blip over it all that time.

My theory is that a lot of these items are not really for sale, but the sellers are guys who promised their wives that they would sell said items.

"Well honey, I've had it on CL for 6 months and no one will make an offer."

"Fine, keep it. But you spend too much time in the workshop."

I don't know what happened I started to read that then I came back here now I can't get back there.
I don't know when I haven't tried to sell nothing in a good while but when they used to send me that stuff wanting a code and this and that I just deleted it I didn't bother with them

Here’s the latest near me - a local dreamer has a Snap-On tool box that must have gold lined drawers. I’ve seen them listed anywhere from $3,000 to $8,000 but he’s asking $18,000 for it on Marketplace and there are no tools in it.

That is a great perspective. It seriously needed to be made.

I would not go $100, on that. Cruzan, being a Craftsman collector, factors in what most would not.

I went $100 on my Powr-Kraft version. It needed a couple hours of clean up and drawer liners. I try hard not to buy projects. I prefer lightly used vintage in original condition.
