I bet there waiting for the phone to ring. The shaper sells brand new delivered to door for $900 so maybe $400 at best for it used? I guess the other tools and books make up for the rest of asking. At least you get some how to books.

There seems to be fewer postings on Craigslist lately, but no lack of dreamers. Here’s a bench top Homecraft drill press that is listed for $700 locally. I don’t think he will be getting very many inquiries about it.

Beats me. I hate **** that's old, except for myself of course. I truly do not believe that I've ever bought anything other than a car that was used and that was only my first one. I don't live in the past and I firmly believe that the good old days primarily sucked. Restoring a car never appealed to me (except I do like to paint them as that's my thing) as whatever it was back in the day can be found new and will be faster, cooler, and more reliable. Take a 1969 charger vs. a Hellcat. You can spend $75,000 to restore a rusted out 1969 charger that's still at the end of the day a 1969 charger or you can spend your $75,000 on a Hellcat that's got 600 HP and five seconds faster in the quarter mile and handles a hell of a lot better because the suspension is superior. I'm not one for nostalgia. You can do your hand cut dovetails and chisel things out. I’ll use my Leigh jig and a router. Oh my, he has a vintage Monarch lathe, yea that’s nice, give me a Haas CNC. I guess I’m just a heartless unfeeling engineer when it comes right down to it. Well we are what we are.

It's getting to be a real **** show in Phoenix. Not sure where these people got the idea that their stuff was worth its weight in gold, but even if it doesn't sell for 6 months, they never relent. Here's three different sellers, all out of their minds:

I’ve run across ads where the seller apparently didn’t realize that they did not provide any way at all for someone to contact them. It makes me wonder if they are really that inept, or if the wife told them that they had to sell some of their equipment but they really didn’t have any intention of selling it after all. So they place the ad and tell their wife they did but that nobody has contacted them.
Well, send an e-mail and offer to pay his ridiculous asking price and I expect he will accept and reply to that.

There is no way to reply. When you hit the reply button it does nothing. Ya, an idiot he certainly is.
When you hit the Reply button you should have got a verification request where you identify pics with bikes, or boats, etc. I found the sellers phone number, the CL email address, and a list of his other overpriced machines:

So aside from the rust issues...That is actually a not-out-or-line price. The crowntop boxes were only available for 2 years 58-59, before they swapped to the grey/red. Too far away for me, but I would love to find a 10d top to match the bottom roller I have, even in that condition.Here's another example of lunacy:

Here on the eastern edge of the Pacific Ocean, western edge of the continent, that’s light surface rust. I still wouldn’t pay $450, but it’s great shape compared to one I saw Saturday.Here's another example of lunacy:

Well, the seller can always hope an out of state collector who doesn't know any better, Jonesing for a 58-59 vintage box, who doesn't care that it's in boat anchor condition, will jump on it and pay top dollar. I wouldn't hold my breath, but that's just my $.02 worth.
All kidding aside, that's seriously the worst condition I have ever seen in years of watching and I would bet the seller picked this up for $40 at a yard sale, if even that much.

Some of these are various kinds of scams.SSome are harvesting emails or phone numbers. Some try to grift the owners of those some time in the future. The more confusing ones are probanly running some grift that we don't understand. There is a reason for it. We just don't know what it is.

Or they say they will send me a code and I am supposed to respond back with a code number to “verify that I am real”. I wondered why they do this, and so I looked it up. This is what I found:

Local craigslister has had a machine listed for nearly a year; started at 4X what it's worth. He lowers the asking price $100 each month. In another two years he'll be down to where it should have been listed in the first place, but we'll have been having to blip over it all that time.

My theory is that a lot of these items are not really for sale, but the sellers are guys who promised their wives that they would sell said items.

I don't know when I haven't tried to sell nothing in a good while but when they used to send me that stuff wanting a code and this and that I just deleted it I didn't bother with them

That's why I think I'm just going to stay single from here on out I'll be 66 next month I don't need somebody busting my *** that's all they ever did for the most part.
That is a great perspective. It seriously needed to be made.
I would not go $100, on that. Cruzan, being a Craftsman collector, factors in what most would not.
I went $100 on my Powr-Kraft version. It needed a couple hours of clean up and drawer liners. I try hard not to buy projects. I prefer lightly used vintage in original condition.
