There was one boulder that was too big to move (the builder wanted to blast it at a cost of $800.00), but we just dug a giant hole behind it, and rolled it into the hole out of the way of the foundation.

I am surprised you were able to get it out of it original position ! Did that take more than one excavator ?

That must have been one hell of a big hole to roll that into ! I guess you don't have to worry about fill dirt !

That's me sealing up the foundation. We bumped the front of the house out 4 feet. The rest of the foundation is to the right of the house. We ended up angling the garage in order to accommodate a second floor laundry room (the angle widened the back of the house).

The builder has an excavator that's on the smallish side. I have a very large diesel backhoe (1978 Case 780). It took both machines to move the biggest boulders. And we definitely didn't have to worry about fill dirt - hahaha.

This is the new stairwell that will go from the new entry down into the basement. Of course, the water tank is directly in the way. You are looking through one of the openings I previously cut into the basement.

Finally getting to some framing. The plan is to build the deck above the garage first, then build all the pieces for the rest of the house on top of that deck. Once the pieces were built, he would stack them on the ground, and later erect them using a makeshift crane (a steel beam bolted onto the excavator arm). I had my doubts, but it worked surprisingly well. Off in the far corner of the garage are the steel beams to hold up the second floor (I didn't want any posts in the garage).

The is a picture from inside the house, looking out through the front slider, looking into the new inside of the house (into the 4 foot bumpout you can see in an earlier foundation picture).

As you can see, we shared our home with bees/squirrels etc. In the photo directly above you can see a skeleton squirrel arm reaching out of the nest material in the front overhang of the house. The amount of poop above the overhangs and ceilings was unreal.
