Update time!

For those that have been asking about the garden, this is the total aftermath of dead plants. A lot of the purple ones actually survived.

Lower spot, you can see the empty space
D13.0472s.jpg

and the triangle area that was mostly dead and came back
D13.0473s.jpg

Some glass in to test privacy films. Original idea was tintex glass, but looking at other houses its just too "open", most houses have the shades down all day which is ridiculous. After looking at Doug's grey tinted glass I asked what the local options were.

This is 30% copper, gives a nice contrast but looks like a money exchange place from the outside
D13.0474s.jpg

This is 30% silver, less contrast but more natural and looks MEH from the outside, not what I would want but at least I will enjoy the view instead of the shades.
D13.0475s.jpg

Some of the bathrooms/Patio/Front will be decked and the plan was to seal it with epoxy or something similar, with my super miss calculation of the garage tiling I ended up with a lot of extra, so what better place to use it!

D13.0486s.jpg

Rear deck is done, I took this picture a while ago, it is finished now but I have not been to the house yet. It looks dirty because I am sealing it with mineral oil and it takes a lot.

D13.0484s.jpg

D13.0483s.jpg

The "flush" window rail is a success decking fits properly flush with it

D13.0496s.jpg

D13.0495s.jpg

D13.0494s.jpg

Leveled the ramp to the rear, still have to add 8" of dirt and grass for final level but feels a lot more natural than steps

D13.0492s.jpg

D13.0497s.jpg

I did not want frames nor jambs on the doors and EZ-jamb isn't sold here plus it isn't really jambless. So, I imagined something, that HOPEFULLY will work

Doors will have a stainless pin that will act as a stopper on a piece of aluminum that will be flushed to the walls.

D13.0498s.jpg

I'm using different profiles depending on the door

D13.0499s.jpg

And some renders... These are totally day dreaming. Something that I would love to do but I have to see if they are even possible for me/budget.

I took the idea of Jordan's house and mutated it a bit

D13.0489s.jpg

Half bathroom on first floor.

D13.0490s.jpg

This next picture represents the reason why the house is on halt now. The fixture to center the valves for the shower knobs. Sometimes you have an idea in your head and you try to explain it, that doesn't work so you draw it, that doesn't work and you model it, that doesn't work and you machine it. Waiting for it.

D13.0491s.jpg

And lastly, My most proud achievement of the month.

Render recall:
D13.0453s.jpg

I said it would be a miracle if I could pull those lamps off. Well...

D13.0500s.jpg

Friggin miracle! not as translucent as I would have hoped but it is magnificent, made in 1cm thick onix. It weights a TON, I will have to properly think how to attach them.

Wow, just wow. If we build a beach house, I know who I'm calling to design it--just take mercy on my wallet!

I finally received the fixture I was crying about. :rocker:

D13.0501s.jpg

Its intended to position the valves for the covers ( deepness and centers )

D13.0502s.jpg

D13.0503s.jpg

Also machined a new flat conic side on the valves for pressure fit of the knobs.

D13.0508s.jpg

Now I can finish the bathrooms!

Made the first test of lightning the onyx lamp:

I made some research about led strips and for those interested here is a SIMPLE answer to them:

The most common are 3528 and 5050 strips made with SMD leds.
The number states the size of the SMD module
- 3528 is 3.5x2.8mm and 5050 is 5x5mm
- 5050 light output is 3 times as much as 3528 per SMD
- you can buy 3528 strips in 60 or 120 leds per meter.
- IP values are simple but for even more simpler explanation, IP65 is sealed and waterproof while IP20 isn't.
- and that's it, you can buy them in various temperature ratings and even RGB

I bought my "starter test kit" which consisted in a strip of 3528, another of 5050  and a 45W power supply.

D13.0504s.jpg

I went home happily only to find out that EVEN while the label said 5050 it was in fact 3528, and while it was the same rebrand of china product it was quite inferior in light output.

Here are some comparative pictures, same camera settings, same voltage.

D13.0505s.jpg

D13.0506s.jpg

Lesson 1: even the same size led can be inferior based on quality.
Lesson 2: pull the product and check it, no matter what the label says.

After learning how to use a pencil welder and testing my abilities to resist pain from overheating cables while soldering I took a broom stick, glued 3 80cm strips and tested it at 12v.

D13.0507s.jpg

It was a half-successful moment.
- The good: I achieved what I was looking
- The bad: Needs to be about 100% brighter to work as intended.

I will go back to the shop and buy REAL 5050 leds and try again.

Later I glued the rest of the strip to the broom and made some wosh sounds.

Nono, that was a one time only, I had to be very careful, I don't want to lose a limb!

My newest toy is the heavily oversize house number

That is cool! I need to have a cool logo too. :)

haha don't I now understand the huge mistake of having a watermark on my pictures but my OCD won't let me stop using it.

I see you were choosing film for your windows the last page, may I make a suggestion that would be fitting for your house?

http://sonte.com/

Wifi controlled privacy film :pimpflash

That is seriously pimp, but at 200$ per sq/mt it is aimed at more seriously wealthy people

The film is just electric tint film. It can be bought as low as $1sqft on alibaba. The wifi and remote is just built into a little electronics box you could either make yourself or buy on eBay or alibaba, also very cheap.

Yes I saw cheaper prices after I posted, not as cheap as 1$.

I was ready to hit my head repeatedly with a solid coffee mug, but the thing that took my sanity back is the fact that it gives A LOT of privacy.

No one will see you, but you won't see **** too!

The Tint is to be able to see outside in the day with the shades up. No point in having a white screen, unless your windows are made in OLED and display a better view :lol_hitti

House done yet?

Answer: No

Excuse:
I am a true perfectionist and when things don't go the way I expect them to go I get stressed/burned/pissed breakdown style.

Excuse of the Excuse:
A lot of things are not done correctly and I wanted them to be flawless.

Result:
Disappointment

Result of the Result:
Halted the house, counted to exactly 1'345,000 and took deep breaths for 15 days.

15 Days later:
I called a couple of friends that had friends that had cousins that had friends that built houses. 2 guys came as a favor and I asked for advice on the finishing. Both were very helpful and gave me proper advice.

Advice in their words:
A house can't be flawless and when you actually live there you won't care about the flaws.

Advice as I understood:
Stop caring about details and just finish already.

So, here I am.

Usual non descriptive, picture full updates should be resumed shortly

To paraphrase my Father-in-Law

Next year somebody galloping by on a horse, is not going to stop and say there's a ½ cm mistake on something.

The house I built has 20+ eccentricities, I do not see them now that the building has turned from a house into a home. It's a process of changing from building to living.

Half cm would be easy to repair, problem is something that should be smooth is grainy and something that should be flat is wavy. And the most fucked up thing is how the granite got from beautiful to ****.

Uhmm.....sounds familiar ;)

I guess most of us suffer from the same psychological anomaly. I'd love to see the house in real life but judging from the pictures you posted I'd say you're among the best of the best concerning finish and style with this house.

It's time to make it a home and start messing around in the garage :).
