Ok Small update for you, big step for me.
Remember those horrible wood cover steps for main stairs?.. yeah they are staying for now...
But I did bail on the lower covers, got quoted for granite and pulled the trigger.
4 days later.. yes FOUR days later it was done, if only wood guys were as good as this granite guy.
As you know I have been dealing with the "you have to move now and finish there or you will never move and hence never finish"
After I got call that the granite was done, as soon as I saw it I felt a rush of fear and excitement like I have never had before on this house. This was the final piece that made the click on the allow button on my brain to let me feel it was "ready". I don't really know how to explain it but it just did. I felt relief even that I know the house still has a lot to be done yet.
So, I started to check final "able" to move in details, like water supply, gas supply, working fridge etc...
This is when some days ago I went to check if the water heater was working.
I bought some basic bosch system which consists of a solar heater and a bypass gas heater with some thermostat thing to switch between the two.
First of all I went to the hardware store 3 times ( different days ) for D sized batteries because the thing was "not" powering on.
Then after some fiddling with it, the thing does not show any signs of being on until it actually goes on to burn gas... (RIP) So it was on all the time since the beginning and the stock batteries must have been good to begin with.
Anyway.. I see it starts but it wont stay on because the water from the solar heater keeps going in hot enough to not trigger it.
What would you do...
I switched off the pump, opened both kitchen taps on full hot, expected to drain the solar tank.
The smaller sink on the kitchen was making a mess of water all around, allt he water lines have a lot of little stones that the pump is pulling from the tank ( have to add a filter ).
So I had a plastic bag in hand and a very VERY tired brain. I put some tape on the bag and make somewhat of a cover for the tap to not spray the whole kitchen and just have water on the sink right..
Cool...
I went to the basement to check the water heater turning on when the solar water tank depleted.
around 10 mins pass by.
I can hear water clinging in the lines, tank must be empty now...
switch on the pump, and right on as soon as water starts flowing the heater starts ignition ( have not been able to get it to burn yet ).. shows an error code and immediately turns off again.
I'm devastated, not only the heater did not work but now there is warm water coming from the solar system again ( wow that efficiency ).
Feeling kinda bad that the heater did not properly work I went up to close the taps and think of a better strategy.
Of course...
Kitchen flooded.
I almost felt the need to just sit slowly in the water and lay in it, like some kind of darkness waiting to consume me as my clothes absorb more and more water.
The plastic bag that I very stupidly put as a guard, fell off and created a perfect seal on the sink ( like where is my brain when I need it ).
All the drawers on the island were FULL of water, and I don't mean like they had drops of water in them, they were full closed dams.
I had 2 options...
1.- the most reasonable one, accept defeat and call for backup ( wife ).
2.- try to cry a lesser amount of water than the amount you are absorbing with a tiny little rag you found and a water bucket.
Obviously I went for #2 for a good 30 minutes and then had to accept #1.
Yet, my wife was very excited to clean because she barely visited the house, which made me rethink my life as a husband, but that is a story for another day.
Here I am.. In the verge of moving, already took 4 SUVS full of boxes and filling the garage quickly.
More updates as things evolve. But as I said.. massive step for me now.
PS: Well ****.. now that I have cars inside the garage it is not big enough..
House for sale.
