BF, our thoughts are with you and your family at this time.

1/2 Cup

Good to see you posting again and thanks for taking time to check in...

My father-in-law past away a year ago this week, I just thought I would post some pics of the volkswagens and the history of them in my family. He was a great man! But it was a while since his passing so we are all good here now...

While mowing this week I grenaded a mower deck bearing on the eXmark, and I was only half done with the yard. I tore it apart and when I removed the nut off the pulley on the bearing housing the entire contents spilled out onto the floor :wtf: And the local parts store won't have the new one until Tuesday

Its only a 2007 with 354 hours on it, The spindle housings are sealed with no way to grease them :wtf:

I'm thinking maybe a little JB Weld and some Gorilla grease, then I can finish mowing

The eXmark looks really weird without the deck under it

Got the eXmark back together just in time, I got my mowing all done before the rain came. When I had the deck apart I found another one of the three spindles bad, so I ordered another spindle assembly :eyecrazy: Only another $100.00 :wtf:

Thought I would throw in a few pics of the finished yard...

Never use Behr Deckover from Home Depot on a deck!!! I used it on my back deck two years ago and it covered great! But within two months the stuff was peeling off in large flakes. In order to stain the deck I had to get all that **** off! Well it turned into a huge PITA! So I just ripped off all the old railing and then put up all new. I had to strip all the 4x4 posts with a 4 1/2" grinder and a 80 grit flap disk, Then I added some copper caps on the posts to dress it up a bit. Now all I have left is to get some deck wash and clean the thing up

The lawn is looking good! At least you noticed the second spindle before it selfs dectructed and you'd be down for a few more days waiting for the replacement.

That eXmark looks like it does a nice job.

That's a lot of green to manage there bud. It looks good and peaceful.
Catching up a few pages. Man that Gulf oil can holder is killer.
Yes the cell tower is leasing a little corner of my lot and it might mean a couple of new porcelain signs each month.

Hey I didn't know that you worked in an old bodyshop. That's cool.
The lil party garage is looking great. Nice work

Garage and accoutrements look good as does the yard! I love all that green grass, heck, you could fly a light airplane off the grass next door. Good to see the mower didn't suffer major damage. Looks like I'll have one more mowing this year, but I don't have nearly as much as you.

Found a strange package on my front porch today. It was wrapped in a solar panel box with my name on it.

Thanks Bears fan. I will find a special place to hang it in the party garage for sure.

I had one of those WTH moments yesterday! If you were following along I replaced a bearing spindle on my eXmark lawn mower, while replacing the bad one I discovered another one of the spindles was bad, so I ordered a second one and it arrived in the mail yesterday. Well this is what I found!!!

This is the how the spindle arrived...

37700816451_73e5fe0c09_b.jpg

The next few shots are of the mounting bolts screwed into the new spindle housing at a nice angle :wtf:

37700815961_6d10bbc427_b.jpg

37668419792_6852552ed7_b.jpg

When I removed the bolts I discovered the holes were never tapped! How did this one slip threw the final audit :eyecrazy: It just had a couple of crooked threads in it from where the bolts where forced in. The bolts are not self tappers...

37700815831_12440176fe_b.jpg

Actual things turned out really good! At first I just wanted to throw it back in the box a send it back! But with all the material still on the ID of the hole because it was never tapped, I was able to rework it. I was also surprised that the threads were a standard size 5/16-18, So I just tapped the holes myself...problem solved

It ***** that I paid $100.00 for the spindle and then had to spend a half hour reworking it!!!

Well I have 2 theories for you on the spindle

1) It was a Friday afternoon production issue or a P.M. after a liquid lunch

2) the Q.C. guy wanted a raise and didn't get it.

When I worked as a bodyman in a pontiac dealership. I was given a new car that the drivers window wouldn't go up (power windows) when I pulled the door trim panel off the door I found a note taped to the door. " You fix the damn thing I'm tired of F###ing with it"
I also found a Coors can in the bottom of the door. Had to laugh!!

Thanks for the visit! My lawn is one of my hobbies, I actually enjoy mowing
I guess after 10 years of mowing with the eXmark I should expect a little wear, I just wish they would of had designed a greased bearing setup on it instead of a sealed unit :headscrat
The eXmark has been a good mower and does a nice job for me.

Yeah I got real excited when I ran across the Gulf oil rack and I even got it for a decent price

My dad owned a bodyshop when I was young, And then in high school I got a job at one threw the ICE program at school, sometimes I wish I was still doing that work! When I turned 21 and started my family I went with the machinist route, It was good pay at the time and had good benefits including health care for the family...

I will try and post some pictures of the body shop that I worked for, This guy is a serious collector of petroliana and has one cool shop!

Thanks for the visit and compliments, My grass has been growing like crazy this year...this is October and I'm still needing to mow it twice a week...usually by now we are down to once a week or so, we have had a lot of rain fall in my area.

What a great story! Can't believe someone could do that? I could never let something like that go by! even if my name wasn't on it...
Yeah I think my spindle was made on a Friday at 2:45 in the afternoon

I had the same thing happen. I did notice that on the old spindle they used self-taping screws so this is probably normal. I also tapped mine and used anti-seize for the next time.

Belt broke on my new Dixie Chopper zero turn during the second mowing with it. Determined the main pulley had been put on UPSIDE DOWN and the belt had been rubbing on the chassis. Not sure QC even exists any more.

Take a few minutes and send your pics to the President of Exmark... They need to know what they're sending out... (especially if it was from an outside vendor.)

PugetDude

Yeah! I thought about it? But I didn't want the feeling of me wasting my time! I just repaired it and moved on :dunno:

^^^^^^

What he said. They can't fix it if they don't know it's broke.

Finallygotit

Yeah! I thought about it for a second! Then just moved on :headscrat

Yeah! I had the same thought too! But neither the old bolts or the new ones were self tappers! Just glad to have it back together and its running and mowing like a new one :)

Nice to have you checking in! Yeah I got to agree with you, sometimes you wonder that they put such a demand on production numbers that its okay to let somethings slide or someone might of had their head up there *** that day

I was at a customers house last week and I mentioned to him that I liked his Halloween display! Well he said check this out and started to pull out all kinds of Halloween characters and started decorating the company truck with them, He was having a good time! So I let him run with it and I took some pictures, He said its his favorite holiday...He did have a nice toolbox set up in his garage so I snapped a shot of it, turned out he is a really nice guy

Not much happening in Dabarn this weekend but I did have my soybeans picked. Fall is here!

I did get to watch the Irish kick USC's *** on Saturday and the Chicago Bears had a pretty good game on Sunday.

My daughter was home this past weekend from college, we had a nice visit and then she decided to take off Sunday afternoon around 3:30...Well we got the call that no parent wants to take! Lucky it was her on the other end of the phone...She was clearly shaken and very upset! She had gotten into a wreck about 25 miles from home, but thank goodness she was not hurt. She took her turn at a four way stop then proceeded into the intersection and then apparently a Trailblazer had ran threw the four way coming from the other direction? I have not had a look at the accident report yet! but I hope I can get my hands on it tomorrow. I picked up a trailer from work and picked up the Impala myself and got it back in my garage for now... :wtf:

Sorry that had to happen. Good no one was hurt. Looks like around $4500 and 2 weeks in the shop for the car
Love the new look of the work truck. We would call that toolbox a tool hotel on wheels at the bodyshop.

And as Don said, the car can be fixed.

Thanks for checking in guys...Shorty is right it does freak you out when its your own child even if the wreck was not that serious! Got the car over to Butch's Body Shop just waiting for the okay from the insurance company? That's why we pay those big insurance premiums :eyecrazy:

Where are you hiding B.F.
Almost a week since hearing from you .Missing you around here Buddy

Don

Thanks for checking in on me Don, I have been pretty busy with the day job and I haven't had a lot of gas in my tank this week to do anything else!!!

I think some of it has to do with our time change here in Indiana, I don't like the time change at all and I don't like that Indiana is on the east coast time zone! I think we are too far west on the map to be in the east coast time zone? It seems to mess with your body a little?

We have had some cold weather roll into our area too this week, some of the highs only in the 30's and we have had a couple of hard frosts this week also, so I think it takes a little bit out of you and I need a little time to adjust. I did get a few pictures of the frost yesterday morning it made for some cool pics :)

24463898398_b0172cc51b_b.jpg

A beautiful sunrise! Looks like Old Glory is getting a bit tattered...

37619812934_8c08c78a2a_b.jpg

You can see the frost on my new metal roof...

That's not what I pictured in my mind lol

Bears Fan I have a question Something that has always bothered me.

If Indiana is on the eastern time zone why do they say you are in the mid west?

I'll check out your time machine on the new thread
