Sign is awesome - AND BIG!!:eyecrazy:

***** that you're still in pain, my knee replacement got the best of me also. Between that, Covid and not being able to get any building permits from the backlogged county, this year has definitely sucked project wise.

Keep up the good work - when you get to it!:lol_hitti:beer:

....One more thing. I just went back and looked at your pictures again and must compliment you on how clean and organized your work area is. Makes me want to go into my shop and start it over again. Very nice place to work

Don

Wow, if Don likes your stuff better than his own stuff you've REALLY done it right and been paid a helluva compliment!

PS: Maybe I missed it but enquiring minds (nosy-*** people) want to know: How'd you break your leg? The pain of breaking a big bone like the tibia had to be terrible. UGH, hope you're feeling better now. Preferably without heavy duty drugs!

Oh my friend this is a great job! And a speedy recovery.
I hope your leg is already good.

Vieux

Thanks for the complement, my leg is doing better, but when I fell I hurt my knees, now I moving like an old man and it has limited me on my project time in DaBarn, Between my day job and yard work, I'm too sore to work in the barn

BF, great to see you up and around and posting an update on your thread.
That ***** about your continued pain, hopefully that clears up soon and you are back to 100%. Although at the age we are 100% now is equal to 70% of our younger selves.
The flying A sign is looking good, can't wait to see how you finish it off.

Are you happy with your Bears so far this season? I'm hoping the season doesn't implode from Covid because the Seahawks are off to a great start. :pimpflash

Jay

Jay

Thanks for the visit! I'm still moving around pretty slow!

The Chicago Bears defense has been playing really well, but the offense looks horrible, I'm not sure coach Nagy has a great offensive mind, good news that I heard this week is that he is turning the play calling over to Bill Lazor for Monday nights game against the Vikings, it sure in the hell couldn't get any worse :wtf:

Tony
I started lurking here back in July glad you are getting back to Da Barn I like the sign and will be watching.
Hope Don sends me the pattern when he's done with it: bounce

Thanks for for the visit! I have been checking in on your thread and I enjoy all your projects, I need to start commenting more often. I put the Flying A sign on the back burner for a bit, I want to get back to it, but I'm usually spent by the end of the day, but winter will be upon us soon so I will need to get back after it, Don is making me look bad, that man gets more done in one day then I do in a month :pimpflash

I've been lurking too. Very nice work on everything. The ramp boards being perpendicular to the deck boards ping my OCD a bit but I understand that you had to do them that way. If you hadn't, you'd probably have two broken legs! ha ha (yeah, probably NOT funny to you)

Can't wait to see your sign finished and lit.

PS: The only thing worse than getting old is the alternative!

Dan

Thanks for the visit and the comments, that made me laugh about the deck boards, I suppose your right, but it never dawned on me to put them the other way? I'm no master craftsmen when it comes to construction. Whats the old saying "Man of many talents but master of none" that or "I'm to damn cheap to hire it done" :lol_hitti

That sign is looking so good! I need to make something like that to practice my welding skills. Great work.

Unruh

Thanks for the compliment on the sign, your other comment reminded me about when I started welding, I was always interested in it when my dad was welding something up! when he wasn't home I would go out and fire up his Lincoln stick welder and burn up all of his rod practicing :D

Dan

The Big Party Garage is my favorite thread here on The Garage Journal!!! In fact I put in on my bucket list, maybe next year when this stupid *** virus thing is behind us, I can get out to California?

I was up on a roof and I was getting back on the ladder to get off and the bottom of the ladder kicked out and I bailed from about eight feet up landing hard on my right leg :dunno:

You are certainly a man of your word Tony
I received a package from you today and I couldn't be happier

Thank you. I'll start on it next week

Don

Always a pleasure! :pimpflash

I did a little project for my daughter, she is the executive directory of the county visitors bureau, she is promoting our county with a bunch of hand painted murals on the sides of local buildings in the cities around our county in the hopes of drawing in more visitors.

She decided to do one herself and it will hang inside the local community learning center, she needed a seven foot by seven foot board to hang it on, so she came to dad ;)

Of course my wife's hound had to get into the picture :)

I will post a picture once the mural is done and hanging up

So big news for DaBarn! I sold my 1980 Chevy Blazer K5 (it wasn't even for sale) a friend of a friend found out I had it and wanted to take a look at it, he must of wanted it more than me because he took it home

Man the inside of the barn looks a lot bigger now without the Blazer

It was a barn find for me with only 13,350 original miles on it, I enjoyed fixing it up and having it for 14 years, but now was the time to pass it on

I took up a new hobby, I have been a life long charcoal grill fan and I will keep it and still use it, but I decided to go buy a pellet grill smoker and it has been a lot of fun so far smoking some meat.

It is a Green Mountain brand smoker, the model is called the Daniel Boone, it is well made with heavy gauge steel and I'm real happy with it so far.

I made my first rack of ribs this week on it

02-X5.jpg

I started out with a rack of St Louis style ribs from a local butcher shop, I put a coat of mustard on them and then coated them with some Texas Style BBQ rub.

01-X5.jpg

I smoked them on 275 degrees for 2 hours and 15 minutes, this is what they looked like after I took them off.

03-X5.jpg

Then I mixed up some apple juice, brown sugar, butter and honey, then wrapped the ribs in tin foil with the mixture poured over the ribs and smoked it for another hour on 275 degrees.

04-X5.jpg

After the hour I pulled the ribs off and drained the apple juice mixture off and brushed a light coat of my favorite BBQ sauce on them and placed them back in the smoker for 15 minutes to caramelize the BBQ sauce.

HOLY **** THEY WERE AWESOME :thumbup:

You are the man. A man with many talents.

Cooking or BBQing is definitely not one of mine. And no interest in learning.
I do like to eat it though so I,m on my way over

The far side of crazy.. but sometimes Australia
I’ve been looking at smokers too, our local barbecue place stocks the Daniel Boone at the completely affordable price of $4499 Australian.... currently looking for something round that’s not an oil drum to build one from.

I’ve book marked this page, the ribs look great, going to try that once I get the necessary equipment sorted.

I know this is a garage journal, but there has been no activity in DaBarn for me to report on the past few weeks, but I did get a few interesting pictures of the Indiana weather this week.

This was the sunrise earlier in the week when I was getting into my car on the way to work!

This was the sunset on the same day when I got home from work.

And this is what we had waiting for us this morning :wtf:

More BBQ ****

I always wanted to try to smoke a beer can chicken, so I finally got around to doing it, this thing turned out so moist

I just used four ingredients, a can of your favorite beer, some mustard to use as a binder then I covered it with some rub, then at the end I caramelized some BBQ sauce on it :pimpflash

I got to go to my mother in laws and then to my parents, so I didn't have to cook anything, but I ate enough for three people yesterday

Being thanksgiving and all I'm grateful for our friendship.
Have a great day with your family Tony

Tony, I hope you and yours had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Bob

I had a awesome day! eating, hanging with family watching football and spending time with my lovely wife.

I have been thinking about you also this time of year, as we start to have some snow and cold weather roll in I get a little jealous of any one that lives south of Indiana

Don,

Thanks for the visit! I really enjoy following along on all your projects :pimpflash

I need to be more motivated and spend a lot more time out in DaBarn in 2021

I had a great year with my day job so that has keep me busy and tired and I'm still having issues with one of my knees, I also lost some motivation, but hope to make up for it in 2021

Hell!!! 2021 may even include me marking off one of my bucket list items? With a trip out to the Big Party Garage

Its been a while since I have posted anything on the barn, well I had an old Garage Journal friend PM me and give me a little boost, I have a few projects that I can share now that I have some down time at home.

I have a good friend and neighbor that runs the mold shop at a local saw mill and he drops me off all kinds of nice hardwood boards, well I can't say no to that and I ended up with a stack in my garage a stack in the barn and a stack in my shed, I got tired of tripping over them so I wanted to make a storage rack for all of it, well I saw this rack on Amazon and decided to just buy two and install them in my shed and out of the way.

01-X2.jpg

I now have a nicely organized rack of cherry, maple, hickory, oak, white oak, curly maple and a few others just waiting for the next project

I recently had a chance to pick an old car wash before it was torn down, I got a few treasures out of it for DaBarn.

05-X4.jpg

This was my total haul from the pick and it didn't cost me a dime, but I did find $50.00 in quarters :pimpflash

06-X4.jpg

I washed the three signs up with soap and water then sprayed them with some clear coat to seal them, then I found a spot to hang them up in the barn, I still haven't done anything with the vending machines, I will save them as a project for another day.

We had an auction near our house a couple of weeks back and my wife asked if I would take her, with winter being over and the covid restriction lifting I think everyone from the tri county area was there and stuff went high $$$

My wife did bid on a vintage straw holder, I forgot to take a before picture of it but the nickel plating on it was bad and it had a few dents in it.

Luckily the nickel plating came right of with the wire wheel on my pedestal grinder, then I tapped out the dents and used a little body filler on it, I gave it two heavy coats of primer, wet sanding the last coat with 600 grit before painting it.

Jon

Thanks for the visit, I was real happy with how the straw holder turned out, the wife loved it too. I couldn't believe how thick they made the glass, you know the old saying "they don't make stuff like that anymore"
