Yep! Snapped a SK 14mm socket in 3/8 drive. I was taking loose the rearmost bolt on my civics rear motor mount when it broke in three places. The bolt had exposed to road salt imo. I wasn't using an impact gun either.

No, but I dropped my brand new 1" Stanley Sweetheart wood chisel on my concrete garage floor. As I saw it start to go, I just jammed my foot under it to (successfully) stop the cutting edge from hitting the floor. Didn't even give a damn if I got sliced, but luckily leg/foot and chisel didn't get hurt.

A friend of mine did that same thing, only he was wearing flip flops.

Chisel was fine, but he got a trip to the ER out of it.

You've got to break yourself of that habit. I've trained myself that when I bumble anything, even a socket I can't get the **** out of the way fast enough. I've seen several people get hurt, some bad enough to end their career by trying to 'save' heavy or awkward parts and assemblies they fumble. I've done it myself in the past but was lucky. You have to train yourself to save nothing or you'll try to save everything.

hah, i have that habit when i wear steel toes at work, catch things so they dont break as they fall..

and i can attest to that being a HORRIBLE habit when you wear flip flops / slippas (4 years in hawaii), and when i was in hawaii i wore slippas every day i could, and dropped a few things and bit my lip hard when i realized it hurt to catch metal things with your feet, even your phone can be a big pain in the toe.

A guy I used to work with was out of work for over a year trying to stop a falling oxygen cylinder with his foot. The cylinder was safe, it was capped. His foot wasn't, he was wearing tennie runners. Ken.

It depends on where you work, if I fumble something it can kill someone if I don't catch it.

Actually, yes!
Went to drill a hole for a new lever door handle and my Lenox holesaw arbor snapped in half. I was able to use my smaller arbor and 7/8 holesaw as a 'nut' for the 2 1/8" saw and drill the hole.
Knowing myself, I will probably buy a whole new set of holesaws now!

I broke an allen wrench trying to remove a retaining screw from a Milwaukee drill chuck. Then I tried another and turned it the correct direction to unscrew it (clockwise), and it worked.

Screwdrivers can break while using them for their intended purpose, believe it or not.

I've never had that happen. I use the correct screwdriver for each screw and use the tool correctly as it was intended to be used.

You da man.

I use screwdrivers in the same manner (correctly) and have still twisted brand new Snap on tips. Either I have the strength of a gorilla or sometimes screwdrivers fail from normal use.

I'd say it's the latter.

My auto teacher was very strict about using screwdrivers as screwdrivers, and prybars as prybars, except in one instance; automatic transmissions. A small flathead screwdriver is the "prybar of choice".
And I couldn't agree more.

I broke my snow blower today. Well I didn't really break it, it broke on its own. The main piece that holds the chute on is made of, you guessed it, plastic. And not just any old plastic, but ABS. That means it cracked today on all three holding points, just as I wrapped up round one of clearing snow. It really was a perfect time for it to happen considering I had 7" of snow then and now have another 8" on top of it (I'm being sarcastic here). There's no time to wait for a warranty fix or part to arrive so back into the basement I went for some Fiberglas work. Added a washer for strength and then fiberglass. the part is installed and now it's at least good for a few more runs until I can get a new piece ordered in and reinforced before installing it.

My 4 1/2" canadian tire Jobmate angle grinder died today while sanding. Took it apart, cleaned the commutator and brushes (had to resolder one). Will try to modify the brush socket so it holds the top end lower to allow for the wear and hope it works. This thing still looks brand new, even my pos B&D old one I bought used 2 years ago is still going strong. After looking inside I can see why it's worth spending some bucks on a good one, this one is obviously a disposable but I expected more out of it.

No. I almost never break tools. I remember cracking a socket about 30 years ago in college, and had to replace the guts of a 1/2" drive ratchet about 10 years ago after torquing down a lag bolt on a deck I was building in my yard. I've also broken a few drill bits over the years too. A few months ago, however, a Craftsman staple gun that I've owned for several years quit on me in the middle of a job so I took it back to Sears for a replacement. I went to the rack, found the identical gun, and took it and my broken one to the check out counter. The sales clerk then informed me that staple guns only carried a one year warranty. I didn't have a receipt for my old one, which was more than a year old anyway, so I had to pay the new one.....I also saved my receipt just in case!

Two weeks old. Bolt backed out, and blew apart while I was removing the rear spark plugs on a caravan. Happy I had an open palm!

Ordered a new bolt and spring for it, and it will be going back together with locktite!
