i was wondering if anyone has had to clean up some old, kind of large spots of what has to be rat urine off of old concrete. it is in an older extra large 2 car garage, if you zoom in you can maybe see the stains. it looks kind of shiny at this point,, but i think it is pretty old,, no fresh signs of rats in a while. the spot is much bigger now,, i know it looks like pellets of rat poop,, but it goes beyond that now.

no odor,, don't have a pressure washer where that garage is at. i actually don't want to spread it around, but i did consider pressure washing and it is still plan b or c.

I would put water with a bit of bleach on it and let it soak for a while.
Bleach and urine is not a good deal! Uric acid and bleach stink like hell. Ever walk into a gas station bathroom and it smells bad, like a mix of urine and bleach? They are using bleach in the mop water. Really makes as stink! Really, bleach is the last chemical to use on urine.
Just water and detergent is best.

Get the urine enzyme neutralizers available at pet stores or janitorial supply. Hell, I bet Amazon can get it to you quicker.
But just do it. My place I retired from was an older vacant building we got moved into after a remodel a few years back. Not sure if it was rats or humans, but the place stunk of old urine. No one could pin point the smell until I pointed it out. Now they are all grossed out.
No one at Facilities ever gave any thought to either homeless people living in the place or rats ******* everywhere so nothing was done about it other than covered up with new carpet.

I would still use bleach and scrub it a bit. Follow up with some Simple Green and hot water.

If bleach and urine is so dangerous, I would imagine that Clorox will have a future lawsuit on their hands.

When you clean your toilet do you save a weeks wroth of piss, then clean it, or do you flush it so there is clear water in it? That bowl cleaner is going into clear water, or at worst a cup of urine diluted out with a gallon of water.

Trust me, piss and bleach is nasty!

Your basic purple enzyme based parts degreaser works great for any biodegradeable messes. I've cleaned off old car intakes that had more rat 'residue' than that .

OP doesn't have weeks worth of urine, just a few old now dried up puddles that he needs to clean up.

No need to go all out and try to find something special. Try what you have at hand first. If it works, problem solved. If it doesn't, move to something more aggressive.

If that bothers you don't want to know what you can't see ! Mice and rats typically leave a trail of urine along well traveled paths, which are typically next to walls. Small quantity, but it is used by them to travel in complete darkness.

Hot water, soap and bleach. Rinse well.

Have you considered hiring someone with portable hot pressure washer? Select detergent, or what ever cleaning solutions you want.
They come to you, bring water, and you are done.

No he doesn't but you don't use toilet cleaner directly on urine. That was my point as you showed a bottle of toilet cleaner. Your toilet will have a bunch of water in it. you don't go spraying directly on urine.

The OP has a pot which is very likely a spot of 100% non diluted urine. If you use that toilet cleaner directly on urine is will raise a stink.

Bleach is a terrible chemical for most cleaning situations. Sure there is a few times where it is the product of choice, then people use tens times more than they should.

I wasn't suggesting using toilet bowl cleaner on the urine spot. I was merely pointing out that bleach is used in a product that can be mixed with urine. If it's a huge issue, then Clorox is tying their own noose and walking to the gallows.

Nor did I say to dump copious amounts of bleach on the floor. If the OP has any doubts about how much to use, he can follow the link from the CDC I posted above about cleaning rodent messes.

i have but where i am at in arizona,, it's a bit rural and well, to be honest,, most of the locals are not professional's really at anything, just like some dude with a pressure washer type of thing or some wal-mart tools. and with fuel prices,, hard to get someone to drive all the way out there. but i will re-examine that again,, that was my first attempt a few months ago,,,looking for someone to do just that.

it's down in az where this rat problem is but i just ordered some on amazon,,,
Then it's on the way to you.

Next time you're out and about, stop by your local TSC to reference for future use. Don't forget to check out their clearance section when you go. . . . each and every time. You never know what deals you'll run across.

Give this a read
:see:
411 - The smell may dissipate temporarily after a good cleaning, but as soon as any type of moisture is introduced again, it can come back just as strong as before.

Once you know where the urine stains are, the first step will be to scrub the area with a strong solution of ½ cup TSP (Trisodium Phosphate) to 1 gallon of hot water. TSP mixed at this ratio is very strong. Gloves and eye protection should be worn for safety.

What the TSP does is remove all the bacteria, most if not all of the stains, as well as remove other residue left from the urine. It will leave only the uric acid crystals behind. This will allow the enzymatic pet urine cleaner to work faster and more efficiently at removing the uric acid crystals.

A spray bottle of Nature's Miracle for urine.
I had to clean a garage floor where cats had pissed for years. I mopped it with a strong solution of Nature's Miracle, let it dry for a week, then did it again and let it dry. It pretty much killed the odor. Get it really wet so it soaks it.

I don't know about odors, but when I had to clean a lot of mouse urine out of a basement Greased Lightning took care of it. I sprayed the area, let it sit for a bit, scrubbed with a deck brush and then mopped it up with water. It was relatively quick and easy.

Well, TSP is banned in my state (phosphates in general are banned in cleaning products), so box stores sell TSP substitute.
The fake TSP is sodium meta-silicate. Still good stuff, just different. It WILL dissolve your skin if you let it, and it take a LOT of rinsing time to remove from your skin, so wear gloves and wash well.

which ones do you recommend? can you find them on amazon?
This is what I purchased last year. I'm still working through it.

It's a concentrate (like Nature's Miracle or Simple Green), so you dilute it to whatever strength you need. Everyday cleaning gets a few ounces per gallon. Your dried up residue will need something on the stronger side.
