Do you carry a pocket knife?

I was carrying 15 2"x8"x10's up 3 flights of stairs yesterday with gloves on and still got a splinter in my finger. Finished up the job and went looking for my tweezers. Tweezers didn't work. Then I remembered I have my leatherman clipped to my pocket. The pliers got the splinter out right away.

I carry my knife here and there but not regularly. Maybe I should carry it more often. Good for opening craft beer bottles.

I have carried one regularly since third grade, I am now 71 years old. I have carried everything from utility knives to Spyderco and Kershaw. My current EDC is a leatherman PST.

In my experience the more I pay for a knife, the sooner it gets lost, stolen, or broken.

An old farmer in my neighborhood used to say "A man without a knife is useless, just like a man without a pecker."

I’ve only lost one knife in 40 years of daily carry, and the ones I carry daily nowadays are not cheap.

BUT...what you said about knives....that’s sunglasses for me! Been burnt way too many times, now it’s gas station specials only.

In an earlier post, I mentioned this knife. It was my first one and I keep it for sentimental value.

You can see the broken "larger" blade. I did that trying to pull a staple out. Lesson learned.

Here’s mine. Used it Saturday to open a bottle of blinker fluid to refill SWMBO’s car.

Having an EDC knife is just an essential "man-thing" in my opinion. My EDC is a tiny Case Texas Toothpick with a 3" blade. I am not a big fan of a huge pocket knife and it is used as a tool all the time. I am a Vocational Teacher and use it all the time in the shop. My students know and know that it is used just like any other tool in the shop. It is very multi-function and handy. I am a big fan of the form factor of the Texas toothpick as they have a slender handle and a long blade based on the overall length.

In my Jeep, I keep a nice black handled Buck hunting knife in the console, and in my toolbox at home, I have a nice 10" blade bowie knife that is just so fun to open packages with!

Managed to hang onto this one since 1983.
I think they used to be guaranteed against loss!

Digging around from my recent move I found my Kershaw 4007 boot knife I've never used and my girlfriend just got me an engraved Spyderco for our first anniversary

Always. Benchmade mini-grip or pardue (or some other BM) when I’m off work.

When I’m at work I’ve always got a folder/flipper of some kind (currently a Ruike 801), in the front pant pocket, as well as an Olfa 9mm snap-off in my shirt pocket, a standard razor knife in the toolbag, and a Mora fixed blade in the center console.

I used to be a big fan of NCIS and know quite a few of Gibbs's rules by heart.
Rule 9: "Never go anywhere without a knife." - revealed in the Season 1 episode, One Shot, One Kill (episode) although it's sometimes quoted as "Never leave home without a knife" or "Always carry a knife."

I carry my leatherman with me every day and use the **** out of it at work.

I'm more likely to leave the house without a wallet or cellphone, than leave without a knife.
I switch around between Milwaukee fast back when I'm working, to Leatherman skeletool when I'm working around the property, or a benchmade folder when I'm going places. Usually Crooked river or 940 Osborne.

Been carrying knives since I was in 4th grade or so. In those days it was always a single blade case, or a swiss army knife.

What really startled me in this thread was how many people said they can't carry a knife at work? Seriously? In America? What kind of places do you work that they don't trust the employees with pocket knives?

Whilst I'd also answer the OPs question as a "yes", I believe the results of this poll are probably suffering from confirmation bias. Full of other people also wanting to make sure they aren't weird too.

I only carry one if I am at work or am doing my stuff. If it is the wife's day or the kids day I normally won't bring one with me. Around here most people don't like sharp things plastic knives and scissors are a thing here. Mind you some are highly engineered.

I have a Chinese boker knife with carbon fiber handle. And a larger sog I got for fixing a girls phone a few years back.

Always. Have a small keychain SOG on my keyring and then a cheaper SOG in the pants for EDC. Never leave home without them.

I’ve never been one to really care what other people’s likes and dislikes are. If I want to carry a knife on me I will and always do. Period.

I do not understand why you quoted me. When I mentioned that if I am going out with wife or kids it isn't my family that cares if I have one. Just so much the placed that they take me do not allow knives. Schools kids places. Things like that.

That’s what I meant. Out of sight, out of mind. I’ve carried my knife everywhere including my daughters school many many times. Not like I’m walking around flicking it open while walking around or having conversations. That said...If I need to use it for anything, anywhere (besides courthouses or airports) I’m pulling it out and using it. If someone looked at me strange, I’d probably look at them strange and carry on. It never crosses my mind when I’m putting my knife in my pocket in the morning “I wonder if anyone’s going to be offended by this” same with a pistol. I have them for my family and I needs and protection. Don’t care what others “think” about sharp things or things that go bang...

I carried one everday for years, until I became a carpenter. Once I started wearing a tool belt 8+ hours a day I quit carrying one. When i was overseas, I had a leatherman and a folder on my belt, and when my iotv was on, that had a gerber and a seat belt cutter.

I see. My kids school doesn't yet have metal detectors. But the casinos do. for me it isn't so much that I care if I get fined or what not for having a knife where I shouldn't but more so if I don't need it why should I have carry one. I conceal carry a pistol everywhere at the court I put it in the locker and at school I keep it locked in the car. Guns seem to be more of a problem when you need it and don't have it rather than a knife. I do keep a knife in the car too though and normally I do not go too far away from my car.

Always. But I haven't carried a "pocket knife" since I was about 10 or 12. Came out of pockets to easily, though I still have the ones my dad gave me. Spyderco clip knife for me at home and an "auto blade" at work, where I can legally have one.

For me, as a Brit, who tends to think of the U.S. as somewhere you can carry whatever you like, it’s really weird reading that some folks there have concerns about pocket knives!

Even here, with a focus on ‘knife crime’ at present, nobody is worried about pocket knives!

Some English trivia, just for fun!

There is a character locally, big into his medieval weapons, who regularly carries a sword! He’s aware, of course, that while an Act of Parliament can prohibit you from carrying a certain type of tool under certain circumstances, it cannot remove your right to self defence, or indeed your right to bear arms, which generally means a sword! (It was this phrase, from the English Bill of Rights, that made its way into the U.S. Constitution!)

This guy only got in trouble once! He was doing some archery on the village green one Sunday morning with his kids, when the Police were called - ‘you’ll have someone’s eye out, etc etc’! The problem went away when it was pointed out that not only was he ALLOWED to practice archery on the village green on Sunday, but it was actually COMPULSORY for EVERYBODY to do so! Nobody’s bothered him about the sword...!

I love it ^^^

I don't EDC a knife, except for the few times a year I'm hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, etc. But while going to get groceries? No. I hate having extra stuff in my pants pockets or hanging off my belt.

It’s truly amazing to me how many men don’t edc. I couldn’t function in life if I didn’t have a knife in my pocket every minute of the day or a pair of boots on my feet UNLESS I’m at my pool with flipflops, swimming trunks and, my beautiful wifey. But with that said, I’m also the type of man who can’t stand to watch tv or be stuck in the house. I’m either working on a project, hunting, fishing, or doing anything that keeps me fron sittin on my *** bored.
