Dub, the wagon is looking very clean indeed. How are you getting around the front plate requirement in Ontario? Did I miss a rule change?

I had been running no front plate on the front for a few weeks. But it was only while i was awaiting delivery of my US Mil Works tow hook plate mount. Quality piece that i highly recommend. I had thought i could cobble together a mount from a couple extras i had from previous cars, but no dice.

I appreciate the no front plate dilemma.... I ran without for years, but once every 18 months or so I would get stopped. Now I have them on most of my cars, but certainly wish I didn't. But just don't want to give anyone a reason to stop me. Ironically, for years (when I didn't have front plates) Mrs. Farrbar told me to get them, once we got the Aston - the wife wont stop telling me how bad the front plate looks.

Question in Ontario is the tinted cover legit? In illinois any cover is technically illegal. I think that is bogus, put it is because of the covers that obscure plates from the red light and speed cams.

It would be nice if manufacturers at least integrated a mount into the bumper with removable cover. I hated tacking a plate onto my scirocco front spoiler...

Drilling into my bumper gives me shivers hahaha. Being right beside Quebec who doesn't share the same front plate restriction does mean that if i can avoid mounting a fixed front plate it helps with the resale market.

They are technically illegal here also, although (pause to knock on wood) i've never had an issue in 18 years running them. Only issue is without the front plate, then they find other issues. My R doesn't run a front plate, but i also don't drive it often. I do have a tow hook mount for it, just not installed.

Your garage are nice and clean, personally I like this view with the two cars, and the Racedeck FreeFlow flooring - amazing [emoji6][emoji1303]

That flooring never ceases to amaze me at how clean it looks. I need this in my life!!!

Yes you do need it. "Easiest" way to completely transform a garage. And honestly i really don't clean mine often. Thanks for the bump as well, always nice to see this reminder.

Hope you are doing well Dubber!

Hey Chad, all good out my way. And you?

Wifey got an early Xmas gift, the new iPhone 8 Plus. Not gonna lie the camera quality is great. Took it out to the garage over the weekend and snapped a few pics. More of a car focus but the scenery is fitting here. :)

You probably mentioned this earlier in the thread but do you recall the name / brand of paint you used on the walls?

Nice Dub's. Fellow water-cooled owner for 30yrs. Well, there was that one 69Fastback when I was 15. I'm in the position to transform my new space with the new house in 2 weeks...so stay tuned for my thread from Rochacha.

Had a fun night last night with this badboy dropping by. Not bad for around 200 grand. Can't believe how huge it is, i really wanted to see what it looked like in the garage space wise. I only had a couple inches to spare at the back and at the front with my workbench. The GLI parked beside it looked like a MINI cooper in comparison.

Do you have any Westphalia friends that could put their vanagon in your garage (non-Syncro, stock height)?

Unfortunately in Ontario i don't. I do have a Westy in the family out West.

Love the wagon! Your cars are always clean!

Thanks man. I'm extremely happy with this purchase. And just rolled 15,000kms after buying it this summer with less than 10kms.

Dubber, where you been?!

Hahaha, its been a while. Work has been nutz and i normally go into dormant mode over the winter. Our winters are so messy the car is really only clean a few days each week.

Not sure if i had posted up the winter wheel set up, but in case i hadn't....

And did a little test fit of a different summer set-up. Audi TT 18x9 wheels.

Always fun hanging out in my buddies garage..

Dubber, I subscribed to this and your previous thread many moons ago dreaming of the day I could emulate it. Well that day is very nearly here!

We have had an offer accepted on our first home, which is intended to be a temporary (5yrs or so) place while we build some equity etc (Emigrating to the USA has been very tough in terms of getting started, but we are getting there now) to buy our 'forever home' which will hopefully be something with a bit of land and at least a 3 car garage.

The house has a 2 car attached garage like yours, which will be home to my racing kart and utility trailer in the summer, and storage for the kart and replacing the trailer with my wife's car in the winter. So I will be drawing a lot of inspiration from your thread, and no doubt asking many questions!

Congrats! You must be really excited, especially with long build up. Lots of time to plan your perfect space.

Good luck!

Well 6 months later, I can say that we have finally put a deposit down on a '17 TSI 4motion slick top, long roof Sportwagen in Tungsten Silver. it has 124 miles on it, and is at a DEEP discount. Thanks for your input.

Honestly love it. Its been two and a half months thus far. Its funny i have only reached for the keys of the .:R a couple times since

Awesome! I'm certain you will enjoy it. I continue to truly enjoy the look, drive and functionality of the vehicle on a daily basis. I've been delaying driving my .:R so far this spring as the wagen is just so easy and great to drive.

Garage related note: Spent the day out there yesterday reconnecting the Chamberlain My Q internet gateway i have had in the garage for a couple years now. Randomly before going on vacation no less i realized it wasn't working. After several hours and soooo many DIY videos its finally working again. Reading threads online i was able to find a ton of people who also had the same issue but with no true fix posted. Error 309 for reference.

Dubber are the wagons more reliable in gas or diesel? I'm looking at them but haven't ever owned a vw, I have a BMW as my fun car so this will get a lot of daily/weekend/bad weather duties.

Reliable? Honestly its been great. Didn't have any issues with my Diesel either, beyond Dieselgate hahaha. I really enjoy driving it daily and it has meant i've reached for the R keys way less often as the experience is great in the wagen. Weekend hauling various large objects is also a blessing.

Hey dubber! Any updates?

Not much actually. Its been a slow spring in there. We were gone to Australia for a couple weeks and following that it was getting my yard ready for the season.

Did tackle cleaning the floor which was much needed following the winter mess from daily driving in our climate. Gotta say the pressure washer makes this process a real treat.

Lighting was horrible but these show pulling a section of the Race Deck and moving it over. Then proceeded in giving the floor a thorough cleaning.

And the results...... a nice clean garage :)

Tackled a couple projects on the wagon recently. Painted all brake calipers in silver (left over paint from doing the same thing on the Jetta).

Also gave the Engine a solid post winter clean and parts install.

That's exactly why I don't like race deck flooring. Not only are you screwed if you drop a small fastener, it traps moisture under the tiles along with grime and dirt. The only advantage to it that I see is that if you are renting, you can take it with you when you move. Otherwise, polycuramine/epoxy seems like a better option. I hope you were running a dehumidifier all winter.

Since I've lived with Race Deck Free Flow tiles for over 5 years (at two houses) at this point i can provide commentary on some of the references above. Removing one tile to retrieve a small item is really a non-issue. And just as water goes through, it also evaporates out. The Free Flow tile design doesn't trap moisture. The bonus of being able to bring it with you is huge. When i sold my last place, i'm told the flooring was something that helped tipped the scale towards the sale of our condo. I had intended on bringing it with me when we were selling.

Thanks man! Right after i scored that i also grabbed a CTS turbo muffler delete and inlet pipe. Have to take it back out to install those bad boys. Hoping to add a little HP and some fun noises.

Haha! When I had my eclipse gs-t, I stood in it everywhere I went just to hear the turbo spool and the blow off valve.

Hey dubber, just wanted to drop by and say I really enjoyed looking through the work you put into the single and this double. Thanks for posting it all up!

Digging the Sportwagen with Audi shoes. I almost pulled the trigger on one but returned to my blue oval roots with a Focus ST instead.
