Decided that it now made much more sense to have the VW .:Racing banner on the other side of the garage :D

While enjoying a little night cap with my bride on the deck my Beagle was on patrol. Vicious security system i have :)

Dubber - I just went through this entire thread (mostly), and have to say you have done an amazing job. It's pretty easy to decipher what sort of person everyone on this forum is by the way they finish their spaces... and you and I definitely have a lot in common! Except my garage will hold some different species of motors than yours!

Again, fantastic, impressive work! And I think I speak for lots of others when I say you've given more inspiration and motivation than you'll ever realize. And for the record, I prefer your newest stable addition over the former

Thanks for the very thoughtful post. Its great to hear my thread is being enjoyed and in some cases a source of inspiration.

I've honestly felt since day one that this forum is truly unique in the positive vibe it is able to maintain. I think that speaks to both the users and moderators.

Man, finally made it through your double thread. All caught up now :)

Picked up the kids this afternoon and noticed every golf, jetta, passat and transporter on the road. Hmmm, wifie would like a new car at some point.

My old get around in uni days was a 1970 type 3 fastback, think the body on it is too far gone now unfortunately to restore it, the old dubs are worth a fair chunk of change here these days.

Cheers.

I love the progress on the garage! Also a very clean R...seems to be difficult to find them in such great shape these days.

Also do you have any sources for your banners? I am also looking for something to put up in the garage.

Nice pics dubber, the new girl is looking very clean! So how long are you single for, and do you plan to ever leave the garage during that period? lol.

Thanks! Yes the .:R's are getting harder and harder to find, especially for us Canadians. Really i had a "choice" between two lol....

As for the Banner, if your referring to the VW Racing one, i scored that off Ebay a few years ago, think it ended up coming from Brazil or Argentina actually.

hahaha, yea i've moved in there for a week :) My caliper paint just arrived so i'll get to make use of my time :) Ahhhhh..... Garage Life Bliss!

As OJ pointed out, with my wife away this week, I was able to spend most of my free time hanging out in the garage attacking a couple projects i've had on my mind.

Painted the infamous "R32 ***********" lol... Annoying piece of metal that VW seemed to have forgotten about. On the black R32 it isn't a big deal but with the Red, Silver and Blue it sticks out.

Pic for reference. Not my car, although mine did have a Texas plate on it at one point.

Some guys cut it out completely. Thought i would try this route before cutting away at the car.

Also tackled freshening up the look of the brakes. The R32's came with beautifully powder coated calipers from the factory but they have since faded like crazy and chipped on a few corners. Ordered a G2 caliper paint kit from the states that was a very close match to the Jazz blue which was the colour used for the calipers.

Nice! Were you able to paint it with the rear fascia in place? Seems like some tight quarters. Either way, nice improvement for sure, cleans up the look.

Hey - what are you using below your floor jack to protect the floor?

Its actually just a super thing but durable utility mat i found at a hardware store. Canadian Tire for the Canadians on here. Works great and eliminates any potential damage of the tiles.

Nice work! Have any plans for the R? Seems like it might already have aftermarket springs installed (VW Racing?).

Plans are just cleaning it up right along with subtle OEM+ additions. This car comes with a whack load of OEM goodies which include the VW Racing springs (good eye). I'll be putting some quality Coilovers in there at some point this winter/spring. For this car I definitely plan on keeping any parts i take it off for the potential next owner.

Surprisingly enough, I actually was able to leave it on. Thought it was worth a shot before taking everything off. Plasti worked great for this application based on the fact that if it got on other surfaces it can easily be removed. Its funny because it bothers most R32 owners. I really noticed it when i'm pulling into my driveway in my other car with the elevation change. Like a sore thumb lol...

That's great you didn't have to take anything apart. Good point about the plastidip too, you did not have to worry as much. There are a couple R32s I see around my town, and one in the parking lot at work every day....I don't think I'm ever going to be able to un-see the "***********" now

Hmmm - Think a 7k lb Duramax truck would tear right through it on jackstands?

Hahaha, sorry about that. I'm the same way since i first heard the term.

Think it would depend on the type of stand. I use stands with a flat bottom.

Caliper paint looks great! Let us know how it holds up. I've never heard of the G2 paint before. Always good knowing the cheaper options before going powder coating.

I hadn't ever heard of it prior either. But after some research to get the colour i wanted it was the best option. I'm liking the results, and i'll make sure to keep an eye on it.

Great Garage! I have been reading through it and want to ask what kind of tiles did you use? Are these Race Deck?

The color you chose for your Calipers are very close to the custom color on my Brembo set...

Finally finished this thread - its a real Epic! Thanks so much for posting all of this Dubber - it is awesome that you have been so good to share it with everyone.

The reason I took so long in reading the thread is that on getting to about page 24! - it had inspired me to do my own garage!! I have a double garage as well and have just put down a shamelessly copied Racedeck. I'm in the throes of figuring out the layout inside now.

Like most I guess on here I'm a bit of a car nut and its great to see you taking care of your cars and your latest R32 is a bit of a favourite of mine. VW really nailed it when they brought that out and the formula has continued right through to the Mk7 R (sans the 6 cylinder engine of course!)

Anyway if i get the chance I'll try and post up my pics of the garage transformation on another thread - but in the meantime thank you for posting this and inspiring me to get off my backside and sort my garage out!!

I apologize for the delay getting back to a few people. Just recently home from a little vacation in Disney world.

This really made me laugh.... Thanks for posting:lol:

Yes they are indeed RaceDeck FreeFlow tiles. Second time i've opted for these in a garage and i have no regrets.

The .:R comes with calipers that have been powder coated but they have since faded. The colour they used was VW Jazz Blue and the closest off the shelf match i could find was the BMW M blue.

I appreciate you taking the time to read through this ever evolving thread. And for also posting! Its been a fun process documenting the progress. I highly recommend it. The motivation you get from the other members on here is well worth it and often just enough of a **** kick to get going and keep going. I'll be keeping an eye out for your thread.

dubber, how was Disney!? We'd like to go, but are saving it till our little guy (and his little brother-to-be) are a little older. We did a Disney cruise at the beginning of the year, and I have to say I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did. They really know how to take care of you.

Disney World was great! I've been 6 times so far, nothing compared to my wifes record of 21 visits hahaha. This was the first time I've stayed on property and had the full deluxe meal plan; the Polynesian resort was amazing. I agree Disney is much better than you would expect. They also do a great job in appealing to adults as well. Epcot is likely one of my favorite parks, who wouldn't enjoy grabbing a pint in Germany, England, France etc.... We are looking to try the cruise at some point as well so its nice to hear you enjoyed your experience.

The only negative was the drive home from Montreal (where we flew in and out from), on the highway about 30 kms out of Ottawa, a car pulled in front of us to pass another car and his engine blew. Us being right behind him at that point basically drove through what felt like a meteor shower. Needless to say the TDI is spending a week at the collision center to get repainted and fixed up. Rocking a 2016 Malibu for the week hahaha. Not the kind of car i would chose but it is fun driving something brand new.

Dubber Thank you for coming down and supporting our economy  Disney knows how to do it I have a few relatives ( my sil has been there since it opened) and many friends that work there. As a teen I worked there for 89 days and exploring behind the scenes is pretty cool. :D

As a Floridian, I want to dislike Disney, but I have to admit they do a pretty nice job with things. I think most people who don't like Disney are staying off property to save a few clams, and then they spend a boat load of energy driving and parking and when they do go to a park they get a ticket and stay the whole day until they are catatonic with exhaustion. Get a multi day pass, with the ability to come and go from parks as you see fit, stay in a Disney resort ( I like Caribbean Beach and Coronado Springs) and use Disney Transportation to get around, and schedule some dinner shows. The luau at the Polynesian is a great show. The Hoop-Dee_Doo Revue at Fort Wilderness is a great time too, and the food at the Trail's End Buffet, also at Fort Wilderness is also quite good.

Epcot is by far the best park, for adults. Germany does a great show and there is good beer all over the park. A plus for dealing with all the catatonic day tourists who are killing themselves to see and do it all in one shot.

We went three months ago before it got too hot and didn't even go to a park that time. Stayed at a resort, swam in the resort theme pool, rode the monorail and the boats around the lagoon. Took in a couple dinner shows. Great time. Saved hundreds by not paying park admission.

sorry for the hijack...

Yea it was definitely a freak accident. Not fun, but happy we were okay beyond the annoyance.

Great to hear your experience. It is a vacation that you can definitely make happen for substantially less money than we paid, which i've done in the past. Especially the multi day park hopper oh man there are some savings there.

Had to throw a little 'plug' in regarding the VW R line; I was involved in the OEM VW floor mat program for the R32 back in 2007 and my concept design was chosen for the mats that year. Not sure how many years it ran...

Cool R32 Dub. Have a friend with the Fahrenheit version. Cool V dubber...

 The Fahrenheits were a pretty cool Special edition GTI and GLI. Their unique colour especially was sought after.

Very cool man. If i had a mk5 i would definitely track those down. I like your use of the logo. Can't get enough of them hahaha. I've stopped counting how many are on the car :)

Very cool Scott. It's a reminder of all the effort that goes into design when one realizes even the floor mats are under careful consideration.

True. And i'm a big fan of quality rubber mats. I always have OEM Monster Mats in my VWs. I actually just recently picked up a set of WeatherTech front mats for the TDI this winter. A kijiji score i'm very pleased with. I'm hoping these will save me a couple hours of getting salt out of the carpet along the ridges. I'm diligent with keeping my feet on the mats but not everyone that gets into the car shares that view.

Let me know if you have any issues with the mats. With the winters you have up there you might look into the floor liner product line for better protection. ;)

AAAAAKKKK! That is exactly why I avoid the major highways, at all costs. Not that I drive on the highways regularly, but when I do go to Red Deer to see some family, I exclusively use the secondary highways. Turns a 1.5 hour trip into a 2 hour trip, but NO CHIPS! Glad you had a fun time down in Disney.

WeatherTechs are good, but I have noticed some liquid gets through around the mounting circles, and our passenger side front doesn't do the greatest job on one of the corners. Still, much better than the **** Audi calls winter mats.

Sorry, i'm not yet versed with WeatherTech's terms. but the floor liner is indeed the product i bought. This will definitely help minimize my end of winter clean-up.

Yea highways are something i luckily don't frequent unless on a road trip as i feel the same way you do.

As for the mats, thanks i'll keep an eye out. This will be my first experience. I do like the OEM euro rubber mats for daily as its much easier to pull them out and hit them with hose.

Regarding weathertech liners, they are ok, but I much prefer Husky Liners. They cover all of the dead pedal unlike weathertech, and are a nicer texture that cleans up so much better IMO.

The weathertechs I bought for our van were just an embarrassment that I got rid of after the first winter and bought a full set of Husky Liners to replace them and they are so much better. I've had Husky Liners in my Caliber for 7+ years now and they still look great. The ones in the van are about 4 years old and look brand new still. The 6 month old weathertechs I had in the van looked like garbage as I could never get them clean, plus they didn't fit well, or cover as much.

I've heard good things about those Husky liners actually. Thought these were worth a shot, especially for $60

Your highway encounter with a blown engine and debris is truly bizarre. Glad to see you escaped with cosmetic damage only :) I had a similar experience with our 2003 CRV on the highway this summer behind a gravel truck. The dump lid was bouncing open and showering the pavement with rocks at 60mph. Not cool.

I have the Weathertecs in my A3 NSC (Not-So-Clean) TDI and have no complaints.

No-So-clean hahaha..... Yea highways can be pretty scary when loads aren't secure and cars not at peak condition.
