Dubber - I just went through this entire thread (mostly), and have to say you have done an amazing job. It's pretty easy to decipher what sort of person everyone on this forum is by the way they finish their spaces... and you and I definitely have a lot in common! Except my garage will hold some different species of motors than yours!
Again, fantastic, impressive work! And I think I speak for lots of others when I say you've given more inspiration and motivation than you'll ever realize. And for the record, I prefer your newest stable addition over the former

Man, finally made it through your double thread. All caught up now
Picked up the kids this afternoon and noticed every golf, jetta, passat and transporter on the road. Hmmm, wifie would like a new car at some point.
My old get around in uni days was a 1970 type 3 fastback, think the body on it is too far gone now unfortunately to restore it, the old dubs are worth a fair chunk of change here these days.
Cheers.

I love the progress on the garage! Also a very clean R...seems to be difficult to find them in such great shape these days.
Also do you have any sources for your banners? I am also looking for something to put up in the garage.
Nice pics dubber, the new girl is looking very clean! So how long are you single for, and do you plan to ever leave the garage during that period? lol.
Hey - what are you using below your floor jack to protect the floor?
Nice work! Have any plans for the R? Seems like it might already have aftermarket springs installed (VW Racing?).
Nice! Were you able to paint it with the rear fascia in place? Seems like some tight quarters. Either way, nice improvement for sure, cleans up the look.
Its actually just a super thing but durable utility mat i found at a hardware store. Canadian Tire for the Canadians on here. Works great and eliminates any potential damage of the tiles.
Plans are just cleaning it up right along with subtle OEM+ additions. This car comes with a whack load of OEM goodies which include the VW Racing springs (good eye). I'll be putting some quality Coilovers in there at some point this winter/spring. For this car I definitely plan on keeping any parts i take it off for the potential next owner.
I was actually surprisingly enough. Thought it was worth a shot before taking everything off. Plasti worked great for this application based on the fact that if it got on other surfaces it can easily be removed. Its funny because it bothers most R32 owners. I really noticed it when i'm pulling into my driveway in my other car with the elevation change. Like a sore thumb lol...

That's great you didn't have to take anything apart. Good point about the plastidip too, you did not have to worry as much. There are a couple R32s I see around my town, and one in the parking lot at work every day....I don't think I'm ever going to be able to un-see the "***********" now![]()
Hmmm - Think a 7k lb Duramax truck would tear right through it on jackstands?
Caliper paint looks great! Let us know how it holds up. I've never heard of the G2 paint before. Always good knowing the cheaper options before going powder coating.
Under the house all day yesterday installing underfloor insulation, one of those jobs where you are off with your thoughts and all that. So what word is stuck in my head all day ? Ye olde ***********...

Great Garage! I have been reading through it and want to ask what kind of tiles did you use? Are these Race Deck?
The color you chose for your Calipers are very close to the custom color on my Brembo set...
Finally finished this thread - its a real Epic! Thanks so much for posting all of this Dubber - it is awesome that you have been so good to share it with everyone.
The reason I took so long in reading the thread is that on getting to about page 24! - it had inspired me to do my own garage!! I have a double garage as well and have just put down a shamelessly copied Racedeck. I'm in the throes of figuring out the layout inside now.
Like most I guess on here I'm a bit of a car nut and its great to see you taking care of your cars and your latest R32 is a bit of a favourite of mine. VW really nailed it when they brought that out and the formula has continued right through to the Mk7 R (sans the 6 cylinder engine of course!)
Anyway if i get the chance I'll try and post up my pics of the garage transformation on another thread - but in the meantime thank you for posting this and inspiring me to get off my backside and sort my garage out!!
dubber, how was Disney!? We'd like to go, but are saving it till our little guy (and his little brother-to-be) are a little older. We did a Disney cruise at the beginning of the year, and I have to say I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did. They really know how to take care of you.
Disney knows how to do it I have a few relatives ( my sil has been there since it opened) and many friends that work there. As a teen I worked there for 89 days and exploring behind the scenes is pretty cool. As a Floridian, I want to dislike Disney, but I have to admit they do a pretty nice job with things. I think most people who don't like Disney are staying off property to save a few clams, and then they spend a boat load of energy driving and parking and when they do go to a park they get a ticket and stay the whole day until they are catatonic with exhaustion. Get a multi day pass, with the ability to come and go from parks as you see fit, stay in a Disney resort ( I like Caribbean Beach and Coronado Springs) and use Disney Transportation to get around, and schedule some dinner shows. The luau at the Polynesian is a great show. The Hoop-Dee_Doo Revue at Fort Wilderness is a great time too, and the food at the Trail's End Buffet, also at Fort Wilderness is also quite good.
Epcot is by far the best park, for adults. Germany does a great show and there is good beer all over the park. A plus for dealing with all the catatonic day tourists who are killing themselves to see and do it all in one shot.
We went three months ago before it got too hot and didn't even go to a park that time. Stayed at a resort, swam in the resort theme pool, rode the monorail and the boats around the lagoon. Took in a couple dinner shows. Great time. Saved hundreds by not paying park admission.
sorry for the hijack...
Cool R32 Dub. Have a friend with the Fahrenheit version. Cool V dubber...![]()
Had to throw a little 'plug' in regarding the VW R line; I was involved in the OEM VW floor mat program for the R32 back in 2007 and my concept design was chosen for the mats that year. Not sure how many years it ran...
Very cool Scott. It's a reminder of all the effort that goes into design when one realizes even the floor mats are under careful consideration.
Disney World was great! I've been 6 times so far, nothing compared to my wifes record of 21 visits hahaha. This was the first time I've stayed on property and had the full deluxe meal plan; the Polynesian resort was amazing. I agree Disney is much better than you would expect. They also do a great job in appealing to adults as well. Epcot is likely one of my favorite parks, who wouldn't enjoy grabbing a pint in Germany, England, France etc.... We are looking to try the cruise at some point as well so its nice to hear you enjoyed your experience.
The only negative was the drive home from Montreal (where we flew in and out from), on the highway about 30 kms out of Ottawa, a car pulled in front of us to pass another car and his engine blew. Us being right behind him at that point basically drove through what felt like a meteor shower. Needless to say the TDI is spending a week at the collision center to get repainted and fixed up. Rocking a 2016 Malibu for the week hahaha. Not the kind of car i would chose but it is fun driving something brand new.
Let me know if you have any issues with the mats. With the winters you have up there you might look into the floor liner product line for better protection.![]()
AAAAAKKKK! That is exactly why I avoid the major highways, at all costs. Not that I drive on the highways regularly, but when I do go to Red Deer to see some family, I exclusively use the secondary highways. Turns a 1.5 hour trip into a 2 hour trip, but NO CHIPS! Glad you had a fun time down in Disney.
WeatherTechs are good, but I have noticed some liquid gets through around the mounting circles, and our passenger side front doesn't do the greatest job on one of the corners. Still, much better than the **** Audi calls winter mats.
Regarding weathertech liners, they are ok, but I much prefer Husky Liners. They cover all of the dead pedal unlike weathertech, and are a nicer texture that cleans up so much better IMO.
The weathertechs I bought for our van were just an embarrassment that I got rid of after the first winter and bought a full set of Husky Liners to replace them and they are so much better. I've had Husky Liners in my Caliber for 7+ years now and they still look great. The ones in the van are about 4 years old and look brand new still. The 6 month old weathertechs I had in the van looked like garbage as I could never get them clean, plus they didn't fit well, or cover as much.
Your highway encounter with a blown engine and debris is truly bizarre. Glad to see you escaped with cosmetic damage onlyI had a similar experience with our 2003 CRV on the highway this summer behind a gravel truck. The dump lid was bouncing open and showering the pavement with rocks at 60mph. Not cool.
I have the Weathertecs in my A3 NSC (Not-So-Clean) TDI and have no complaints.
