Haha, thanks Rick, yes that one is on my radar, although i want to try and avoid buying it as its basically $200, which seems crazy for what it is (a hose reel). I'm also toying with the idea of a manual one they have for less then half of that price. I think that Gardena is definitely a quality piece, I remember my dad used to always use their products, and its German! I found a similar one to the one above on clearance at Walmart, made by black and decker but it was huge. 10" wide was too much for the spot i would like to put it. Canadian tire has one my by Yardworks for $99 which is the same look as the gardena above. Think i'll need to get this one out of the box to measure it as they don't give that info on their website.

Thanks, yes i love it as well. I needed something that would fit and it fits perfect! Couldn't find any through local retailers as its a European or asia based company. Canadian tire caries a couple models from their line but only the more traditional cooler looking ones. I think it was a steal for the price i paid. I'm not sure if you use Kijiji or if its popular in Calgary or not but I'm always on it selling at least one thing a week and i often scoop stuff up from there as well.

As for the hose we had a fight last night, I re-hung it winding it twice as tight and that was a chore and a half. At least i can now place the garbage can underneath of it.

Thanks man. Very cute pup! Yes that is a Beagle trait for sure. I actually have a few long leads that i'll attach her to when i'm out on the driveway or the garage door is open. I agree it makes no sense for them to want to bold, as she is the princess in our place but they are very scent driven.

Makes me think of the first summer in our current place i was out detailing the car with Sasha and then my wife came out to get her and i hadn't noticed she snuck away. There was a new home still under construction across the street and she had not only gone inside it but was out on the top deck looking back at us, as if she was saying, "hi daddy, look at me!"

Hey dubber, this is my first post. I actually began lurking this site several months ago, when I realized I needed more lighting for my garage, and wanted to see what others were doing.

Today I found your thread and realized that you were a fellow "dubber", i had to comment.

First, I love what you have done with your garage. I'm only on page 6 of your thread. So bright, so clean and I love the colors and design elements you have added. Hope you don't mind if I steal a few ideas.

My wife and I have a garage for the first time, too. Moved into our new home in Sept 2011. The garage is detached and has an interior foot print of 21'x21'. The ceiling is 13'. Although, it has been drywalled and taped, it's in no condition for a coat of paint. Did I mention that I hate compounding, sanding and painting. I have my work cut out for me. However, seeing your garage go from unpainted to painted has encouraged me to get going.

BTW, I returned to the VW/Audi ownership experience after a 6 year departure. I just bought a 2013 Golf R and I can't remember why I ever left VW. My other cars were 1988 Jetta GLI, 1990 Jetta GLI, 1990 VW Fox and 2000 Audi A4.

Thanks fellow dub fan. For sure feel free to incorporate elements of mine for yours. That's the beauty of the forum to share and use ideas. Paint makes a huge difference. My builder did a hack job and i didn't spend near as much time as i could have by prepping the walls but they still turned out alright.

Congrats on the R, sooooo sweet, and nice old stable of germans. My former German rides were a 1988 Jetta Slalom edition, 2000 Jetta 2.0, 1998 GTI VR6, 2005 MINI Cooper, 2006 Jetta 2.5, 2001 A4 2.8 Quattro, and my current two a 2010 GOLF 2.5 and my 2004.5 GLI.

Another fun project i've been mentally planning has finally come to fruition; a little tv that works great and cost next to nothing. I've got it all connected and I find it surreal to be watching a TV in the garage, very funny, but cool at the same time.

And I've decided one of these magnets is an absolute necessity with Free Flow tiles. I had a small washer fall off my workstation and through the mesh. Grabbed this and i was back in business within seconds.

Spent some time today cleaning up the cords for the TV after stopping by Home Depot. Definitely not the optimal spot in terms of the cords but i realized it was the best spot for the TV. Very fun having a TV in there especially for background noise and a distraction during a project break.

I've had a TV in the garage for about 8 years now. Like you said, it's nice background noise and really neat if you can't stand to leave the garage but don't want to miss the game/race. Looks great!

I just have to figure out how to get a little bit better clarity as the higher channels have a lot of static. Even then, its small and not the best signal but the ability to do it in the garage is very fulfilling!

Very true. I had to do a bunch of googling after i saw the for sale ad to see some pics of content as i wasn't a real believer, then i started to fill it and was very impressed!

As for the TV if you can make it work without too much $$$ i highly recommend it.

Yes for a fridge it, and a TV for that matter it required a lot of mental planning for the perfect spot, but if you can find a way to make it happen pull the trigger.

When i first started talking about the possibility of getting a fridge a buddy sent me a picture of this, which ruined me. I HAD to have it, BUT after some searching i quickly realized it was unattainable. Not only is it fairly hard to find as most that used to sell it no longer have any inventory, if you CAN find it, its in the $400 ballpark. Which was in a different city then my wallet.

A TV, eh?

One more reason to never leave the garage!

Since I've started my project a few months ago and especially since cleaning up above the garage door, the garage door sensor wires have been bothering me. We (father-in-law and I) had just stapled them in the center. That project was quite frustrating so the end was kind of a rush job. Decided to re-route the wire tonight and paint the affected areas. Another little thing that makes me happy to have finally done it.

I just hang my sensors right on the mounting bracket the the motor is on and face them directly at each other. It might be against the "rules" but I hate having to readjust those things if the get bumped or knocked out of alignment and then your door won't work right.

Interesting what you have done. Yes the concept (of having sensors) is great but they are annoying in the real world. A pain especially with the hose as they have been bumped in the past.

Yes that was a work in progress, and I'm happy to have settled on something that works to hide some miscellaneous things i don't often use.

If you had to do it again would you change the position of the lights?
From what I see you have one near the walk in door that goes length wise and another near the garage door that goes width wise.

I'll be working on bikes so do you think i should just put them all width wise?

My low ceiling heights were the main guiding factor for the light layout actually so honestly I would set them up the same way again. The problem with lights in garages is you never really have enough. I started with a 60 watt bulb as the main along with two 60 watts in the garage door opener. Changed all of those to 100 watts and then added the two double 4 foot fluorescent lights. That was an amazing difference, although i just found something that will work better in one of the spots. The one light that goes width wise will actually be changed this weekend. More details to come later

What a great spring weekend in Ottawa. Took advantage of the beautiful weather and put the new garage to use for the first time. Cleaned the Golf out on the driveway while i had some Tennis on the TV in the back ground. Then Sunday i brought my GLI home for the first time since the remodel, fits great in the new space, love it. Cleaned that one, and had some NCAA Bball on in the back-ground while i was puttering around. Can't put into words how much I'm enjoying using this new space! Had a few neighbours also pop by to check out the new design, it has been well received for sure.

Finally got a chance to throw on my new cover on the GLI since its actually now home and cleaned up. Think it looks great in the new space.

Edit: Hard to tell in the pic but i actually have 2 plus feet to walk around the whole car minus the back.

Well i finally have the floor in, the moment I (and maybe a few others) have been waiting for....

I could not be happier even if I tried. I absolutely love the overall look feel and function of this Race Deck Free Flow flooring.
