Matt Johnson has the basic idea of where I was going. I was thinking 1x2s for the framing. All you are building is an extremely shallow cabinet and dressing it up with a picture in a frame.

Trying to play with some ideas to “hide” the breaker box. Open to suggestions from the group!

This is how I hid mine. Excuse all the mess, they were taken mid garage overhaul. I could have drywalled over the area above the panel, but I wanted access from the panel up to the top plate so that I could snake wires into the ceiling in the future if I ever needed to. I had to do just that when I installed my lift and had to add the 220 line for it.

Nice upgrade. We are going to need to see obligatory pics of all the tools organized inside. Looks like you did some measuring before going to the store. :D

Bret

Hahaha, yea i made sure to measure before leaving the house.

I think what smschriefer is saying here would be something like this (in basic form)-
1. Use 2x4's (or similar) cut size to "frame" or box" around the panel & exposed wiring. 2x4 would be meet or be attached to the wall on the 2" edge
2. Construct a matching frame & sheet with plywood (or similar)
3. Paint frames desired color
4. Attach sheeted frame to wall frame using hinge
5. Cover sheeted area with artwork of choice

This can get more elaborate as you desire.
I helped a friend do a similar in his garage & sheeted with a discarded white board. As he liked the ability to both have the dry erase for written notes as well as magnets for paper items (like receipts). His panel was located next the door into his home , IIRC similar to yours (but I think his was a bit higher/closer to eye level)

Another option I've used in previous work was to purchase a simple White Melamine Utility Cabinet large enough to cover the outside dimension & IIRC it was about 12" deep. Then cut out the backing & hang over the top of the electrical panel. I picked it up at either Home Depot or Lowes locally.
Quick & Cheap.

Hope that helps & keep on dubbin'

Matt

Thanks Matt. This has certainly helped me formulate a plan.

looking good

Makes sense. I'm thinking a hybrid of these ideas will work for me. Thanks again.

On Friday evening i went out to do some errands with one of my goals being something i had oddly wanted to buy for several years but didn't have room in my Single or Double to store it. Am i the only one that wanted one of these and find them crazy useful? Also funny as that was my plans for Friday night, buy and use a mop lol... Sadly i was excited. I also couldn't believe some of them were over $100. After a lot of reading i settled on this one which ended up being $59.

Planned to divide the garage in three Bays for all work on the flooring. Started with mopping Bay 3 after vacuuming the area.

Always wanted one too, but yeah, couldn't believe that you could spend $100 on one. Garage is looking great

Seeing your updates on IG about sealing the floors has me thinking of doing the same before I install my yet to be purchased SwissTrax flooring. Hmm...

Happy to hear i'm not the only one on both counts.

Yea i'm always trying to catch up on this thread :) I would recommend it applying a sealant. Also much easier to do prior. Although with my last garage i did another application after a couple years.

What are your thoughts on the window over there? Going to box/frame it in for a simple look, or throw a sill on it and some blinds or whatnot?

The lights don't look flush to the ceiling. Is there no easy way to make them flush?

Good eye hahaha. By product of the ceiling being OSB. The light is near the joint and thus is a little off flush in some spots.

I'm going to start with painting the unfinished areas of the window box as that matches the rest of the space. Maybe down the line if (likely when) i start adding greater details, i would add some trim pieces.

I have that exact mop bucket and it has played a major role in my life for many years!

Excellent. Now I know it was a solid choice.

Anyone know what this might be? Been curious about it since moving in and actually dissecting the details of the garage. First pic is inside the garage and second I believe is on the other side of the exterior wall.

Looks like an electrical box with wires in it. Are there two wires per wire nut? Do you have any lights in the yard or any electrical devices in the yard?

Looks like an electrical rough in to service something outside. Do you have anything outside that the previous owners may have roughed power in to for the future like a shed, well pump, pool pump etc? That conduit must run to something underground.

A former Irrigation controller perhaps?!

Don’t think so but appreciate the suggestion. It’s a newish build so I think it’s unlikely it would have been installed and removed.

Amazing. Think you nailed it. I have two lights at the end of my driveway. Also curious as they are activated at night but I’m not sure where the photocell is.

I think Isonic nailed its use. At least it makes sense to me as nothing else outside uses power.

Photocell could be on the lights them selves. If you have a non contact voltage tester you could see if the box is hot all the time.

Maybe the photo is deceiving but it only looks like there is one set of wires in there? If there is a hot set coming in and they’re wire nutted to the wires going out, then that would make sense at least.

Dubber,

Since the LED over had light panels were mentioned earlier, I'm curious how well you think they are working for you? The cost isn't too bad for them, and considering they're nearly a flush mount, they look good too. They carry them through our costco down here too. Just looking for your inputs?

Oh, good to know. Its super cold today but i'll add that to my To-Do list.

I'll have to take a second look, yea its hard to make out in the pic.

Thus far i really like them. Cost wise, since bulbs are included the price is great. Much cleaner look overhead as well compared to my last space where i had linkable shop lights. I have 5 installed and another 3 yet to be installed as i need assistance to create new outlets.

Really coming together quickly, I have been so stagnant with my garage, and now we're talking about moving so I'm really set back, haha.

Looks great though! Going with a similar design to the double and single or going to change it up with the larger space?

Yea i've been blitzing it due to a tremendous amount of motivation. Yea the design will be inspired by my two previous spaces along with a bunch of new ideas. :)

Man! Paint, Looks great

Thanks!

I can’t seem to find the brand/model of those lights, help?

Artika Skylight Ultra thin LED Panel

Another big purchase today that I’m super excited about. Ordered a Lenox LF-25 60,000 BTU which gets delivered Monday! Met and planned with the gas guy yesterday. Organizing for a roofing company to also create the venting system which is much easier as it’s only attic space above. Doing a vent out the side wall would have been a huge pain as the house has a full stone exterior. Can’t wait to get this big boy heated up!

Also planning to start installing RaceDeck Sunday potentially. 🤘🏼

BTW, you’re right again. Walked down to the end of the driveway today to take a look. From far I assumed it was a bolt. Thanks again for helping me with that query.

Very kind of you. Best of luck with your space.

This weekend was another super productive one. Tackled a number of projects including mounting a couple tire racks, painting a few details and a couple Husky Track wall panels.

Nice! You will absolutely love having the heated garage. Did you ever verify if you're walls/ceiling are insulated? I think we talked about it a few pages back but I can't remember. I only ask because you'll be wasting a ton of money in gas if they are not.

I'm very excited. I've been working with my small Honeywell space heater which has worked surprisingly well given the size. And yes the builder confirmed walls are all insulated, which I've been able to inadvertently confirm through various sessions of missing the stud and pulling insulation. The attic is also done, but i'll be poking around up there shortly to assist in running new electrical wires.

Another major milestone has been reached, and arguably the most exciting.

Spent Sunday installing my new RaceDeck FreeFlow design with the help of a good friend. New design allowed me to amalgamate my tile inventory from dubber's double and expand with the new selection. Final detail cuts were finished last night. Ordered these tiles on Black Friday prior to actually living here so its been quite the wait for me :bounce:

“Glamour shot”.

Glad it wasn’t a “money shot”.
That place looks great! Amazing transformation. When I first saw OSB, I was like “bummer” but really looks great.
Keep rollin.
