Those stands look very similar to the aluminum Schwaben and Torin units. Not identical, but very simlar. Earlier models or different manufacturer maybe?

Schwaben - https://www.ecstuning.com/b-schwabe...GhHoA-Fg_uynwS4oFrdGznQsXxtRoTRBoCuJcQAvD_BwE
Torin - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007XTGCI/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Looks very close, but slightly different. I sadly remember wanting the Schwaben ones but they would have been much more expensive. They may be Torin or Black Jack now that I’m thinking about it.

Thanks guys! Making a list for the next place.

That will certainly be a growing list.

Check this Amazon page for several that are very similar:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007XTGCI/?tag=atomicindus08-20

 Thanks Dan. One of the unique features I’m noticing is the pic has a double peg. Maybe more stout?

Can you explain the appeal of the Swisstrax flooring, beyond the look?
I am a fairly clean/organized/**** person and this is the last flooring I would want in my garage.

Matt @ Obsessed Garage seems to have popularized this stuff, due to its looks and ability to hide/conceal filth. But as a clean/tidy person, I don't want to hide it, I want to get rid of it.

With washing vehicles inside, I can only imagine the nastiness piling up in your garage. Not to mention all of the other stuff that goes along with garage projects (oil/fluids, sawdust, metal shavings, brake dust, ect).

Dubber is using Race Deck brand but I get your concern. Maybe you're making more out of the "junk-under-the-tiles" concern than necessary? Assuming your garage floor is built properly and sloped toward the door or a drain you can use either a hand held blower/air hose for dry debris OR a garden hose to regularly clean whatever gets under there at any time.

If you would install ANY type floor it is going to potentially hide some debris. Granted, if you have plain concrete or epoxy it can be blown/washed more easily but if you want the dramatic upgrade in appearance the Race Deck type floors provide there is a slight "cost".

Not intending to insult but maybe your OCD tendencies need a little taming?

As Dan mentioned below, to answer your question i wouldn't be able to explain the appeal of Swisstrax :lol_hitti

RaceDeck FreeFlow tiles are perfect for my application for a number or reasons.

  1. Visual impact/transformation
  2. Ability for snow to melt through tiles and not pool
  3. Water from detailing wicks through and again avoids puddling
  4. Ability to take it with you if you move (which i've done)

Vacuuming through tiles isn't an issue if needed. And usually once a year moving a section for a thorough cleaning is my approach post winter for a thorough cleaning.

So it basically comes down to the fact that it looks cool and water doesn't pool.

Is this the same stuff you have? (I think this is a fellow GJ member)
Is this the process you have to go through to remove the muck?

Somehow i missed this line..... It doesn't sound like RaceDeck or Swisstrax is for you.

Do you have a garage that you're currently working on now or planning to build? Interested to see how you develop yours. Start up a thread if you haven't done so already

I have to mop my epoxy floor every time I wash the car, or when it rains and I park the car inside, or when it gets dusty, etc etc. I love my floor but the next garage will have Swisstrax or Racedeck.

You mop your floor every time a car has been driven in the rain???
Or when it gets dusty?

Can't you just let the water that drips off your vehicle dry naturally?
Or use a blower to blow out any dust?

My new house has a tankless water heater right inside the garage door and there is no hose bib anywhere near the driveway. I’m considering whether to T off the cold water supply into the water heater and create a hose bib inside the garage or not?

I’ve never washed a car in side but if I do that then I’ll have to have RD vented tiles cause VCT would be too slick when wet and apparently so would epoxy unless I add grit to the clear coat. I have to check that the floor is sloped toward the door though.

Maybe not every time but I like to keep my garage clean. I washed my car last night, pulled it in and then about an hour later mopped up any residual water that had dripped off. I wouldnt be so compelled to do that with something like swisstrax where the water would drip though the tile.

I was going to say, "add a hot water hookup as well" but I just saw that you are in cali.

I know that RAD garage does a major cleaning of his Swisstrax and concrete slab every few months. He even posts videos on his YouTube channel showing his process.

There are pluses and minuses to each floor type (epoxy vs tile). It honestly comes down to personal preference. I ended up going with RaceDeck Free Flow tiles like Dubber & Sedan335i. I love the look the tiles provide and being in a snowy climate the fact that I can have a dry floor helps.

Cheers to your research

You like to keep your garage clean...but you wouldn't be compelled to clean up motor oil, coolant, brake dust, rust, dirt, sawdust, salt, ect. that gets trapped between/under such flooring?

I'm just not a proponent of simply ignoring the filth just because it gets hidden in the tiles.

If anything, I'd think the tiles would be more time-consuming for someone like you, who likes to keep your garage clean. In order to do so, you would have to pull the tiles up, then clean the floor, then clean the tiles.

It would be much easier to simply wipe up a spill with a shop towel or mop.

I think the tricky part with the flow through floors are if you do heavier work where oil, coolant and fuel go flying it would be near impossible to find it all in a timely manner and clean it up.

I have used a few different floor coverings and my latest garage its literally bare concrete and some
Used anti fatigue mats. I struggle to think of something better other than polished concrete.

I can certainly vouch for there truly being no one best flooring solution that is perfect for everyone. Funny enough, I've actually always liked the idea of a clean polished concrete, but just not the best suited solution for me.

Thank-you both for posting these sentiments. I've been leaning towards RD (even thought it would probably be the solid tiles for my application) so it's nice to hear of epoxy owners who think RD would be their choice after having epoxy.

I have to say Dubber, when I see pics of your new neighborhood with all the space, I think we should move. Here in Vancouver, we're in a great location, but it means small houses and tiny yards. I'm very fortunate to have a small 2 car close to the city, but with young boys I'm starting to think the space is more valuable than proximity to the city. How far are you outside of downtown Ottawa? Especially in this crazy time, I think it's great that some people have space to play when everything is closed.

We certainly lucked out. We had an initial price cap we were using and our realtor (a friend and car guy) found this place. Thankfully it was a perfect garage, attached to a nice house that my wife loves, and in a great neighbourhood. We are in the south end of the city and only 25 minutes from parliament hill. And it also cut my commute time in half!. Bang for the buck I couldn’t believe having an acre of land and still being close’ish to downtown. Same commute time to downtown for us compared to my last house. I have two neighbours selling right now, one with a garage that he stored 6 cars in over the winter  If you’re serious about a move fee free to send me a message and I can provide more details. Take care.

Thanks Dubber. Right now a move east isn't in the cards, but I do appreciate the offer. I wish we could get something like that 30 mins from downtown Vancouver. 30 minutes barely gets us to the #1 Highway, and then you'd need to go another 45 minutes to get that type of space. Unless, of course, you have $2.5-3.5 million to spend, and even then you'd have a tiny yard that barely fits the house.

Like I said, I'm very grateful to have my small 2 car garage. Now it's time to get my act together and get it properly sorted!

Very nice job on the Denali.

Out of curiosity, what do you use on the black trim to bring back the luster after washing? Does it attract dust/dirt?

Thanks.

Hey Mark, always nice to meet another Vancouverite on GJ. Your garage is coming along nicely. It's nice that you have a corner lot for your 2-car.

Thanks man. I've been loving using CarPro Perl for those applications. You dilute the product to whatever consistency you want and it feels as though a small bottle lasts forever. Amazing for tires and plastic trim.

Easily one of my favourite threads on the forum - love the Audi as well, that red black combo is one of the best combo's out there!

Very kind of you. Awesome to hear others enjoying my blabbing and picture sharing hehehe. Agreed, the Misano red on the S3 takes the car to another level.

Thanks! Yea this one came super quick. As soon as we had narrowed down to two new homes i started feverishly planning potential plans for each. Seeing them come to fruition and using the space now daily its unbelievable. Also get a lot of satisfaction witnessing peoples faces as they take in the space for the first time. :bounce:

Well the new yard helped me justify upgrading my Gardena hose. I’ve wanted this beast for a while now but it didn’t make sense until now. My previous Gardena hose reel has held up great for over 10 years now and in looking at the connections it can act as an extension hose when needed. Bonus! It’s funny how pictures don’t give the size of this unit the proper perspective. Took the S3 to the local Canadian Tire to grab this on sale and the box took up most of my trunk. Thankful but funny going out on errands getting to choose vehicles and often I wish I had brought the wagen simply for the ease of handling most items.

With nothing much to do after work hours with our current Covid-19 climate my detailing world has blown up. Here are some recent projects that have flowed through the garage. I’ve added a couple from each but can happily share more if anyone is interested in a specific session.

The retraction of that reel is what sold me. Gardena stuff is really well made.

Thanks for sharing - the e30 looks great - love the cloth sport seats. My wife drives a Honda HR-V - think that was the little black Honda SUV that appeared.

Great stuff.

Dubber, What kind of warranty; if any, does the Gardena reel come with? I just checked Amazon after seeing your post and didn't see any info.

It's price at nearly $300 but I've been looking at Eley reels since someone here (?) posted a photo of one. I'd never heard of them before and they have a 10 year no leak guarantee. Have to admit I'm impressed with that. The GJ'er that posted it said, "Buy once/Cry once" - even though painful it makes sense to me.
