Did you use anything other than that wire brush on the valve cover? You put anything on it afterward? Looks great.
After the coarse wire brush on the drill, I used a fine wire wheel on the bench grinder, then used a 3M Scotchbrite pad to get the fine, brushed finish you see here. I could have polished it to a shine - and still may - but I do like the brushed look. If I stay with that, I'll apply Matte (Flat) clear over it.
Mrs. E-Tek sure knows how to 'accessorize' that convertible!
What's the paint scheme going to be on the '40 Ford?
Super dark purple - tri-color that looks black in the shade.
I know you have a 'real' job, but I'm curious just how many hours a week you spend in the shop? It seems to me you get more done on a part-time basis than guys who do this type of work as their sole income; pretty darn amazing!
No more than 15 hours a week really, Thursdays, Fridays and a few hours some weekends. I would be in there more, but between doing all the maintenance on our rental houses and having 2 young boys, one with special needs, time gets tight!
not familiar with the Nissan engine, but is the front pulley/balancer constructed the same as US (older Ford/Chevy) with a rubber ring bonding the inner and outer?
just never pulled on the outer, always bolted to the hub to remove to not damage the rubber.............or will it be replaced with new?
It's rubber bonded and I hear you - the "rightest" way would be to use a center/bolted puller - but I got lazy and it was easy to pull off. Had it been harder I would have resorted to the bolted puller.
Mrs. E is as beautiful as ever, and I would welcome photos of her any time Mr. E sees fit.
Mrs E thanks you - but I'll try harder to abide by the rules and watch what I post from here on....
Anyways, back on track....I finally brought the rest of the body parts in from the shed where they'd been for nearly 3 years....
Some of them need quite a bit of work...
Found some odd rust spots inside the back hatch panel --treating it with Metal Prep (POSO4) -
And spent a bunch more time detailing engine parts - including using POR15's Manifold Coating on the exhaust mani -
A lot of elbow grease and a wire wheel on the cast aluminum intake mani -
Fuel Rail -
Valve cover done -
Just have to show off another shot of the floors - they look so good now with new metal and coated in Dupli-Colors Rubberized Undercoating -
As well as one more of the chassis -
