Now I am getting confused between here and the HAMB. At least I know the 240Z would not be on the HAMB.

If you're confused, imagine how I feel Simon!!!:eyecrazy:

I'll recap:

1927 Model T Rod - the only one I'd put on the HAMB of course. I have 2 flatheads for it and just built that wooden table to work on the body and frame.

1971 Datsun 240Z - Metalwork done, ready for final primer and blocking, then paint. Just bought all the parts (above).

1981 TransAm Ragtop - Doesn't need much other than TLC and an exhaust upgrade.

1967 Galaxie Ragtop - needs brakes!

1946 Merc Truck - runs great after last years tune up!

1940 Ford Rod - Not mine, did the work for another rodder. Just went to paint

1967 Ford Cougar - Not mine, did the metalwork. Also out for paint.

Coming soon - 1975 Nova - needs metal work.

Finallly THURSDAY!! This 3-day work-week is starting to seem like a five-day!! I gotta retire....

Cleaned up and re-installed the head on the L24 Nissan engine today -

106_4353.JPG

106_4354.JPG

After utilizing all these tools to clean the surfaces I went over the head and block surface with a hard block and 220 paper -

106_4355.JPG

I couldn't believe what happened next: as I went to blow the junk off and out off the heads orifices, a good amount of OLD GAS came out of the three valve pockets whose intake valves were closed. This is a car that has sat for 15 years, before being torn apart and being apart, for another 3 years! It certainly shows some very WELL-SEALED valves!!

106_4357.JPG

A little oil squirted into each cylinder to guard against a dry start...

106_4350.JPG

A little sealant at the front cover joints -

106_4347.JPG

and the new gasket -

106_4351.JPG
[/IMG]

Torquing it down -

106_4359.JPG

Looking better!

A friend of mine dropped off this Kleen Flo parts bucket he wasn't using, so I threw the SU's in there before their rebuild - Thanks Trent!

The START OF SUMMER IS HERE in Saskatoon!!!! Yee-ha!!

Got my 32 wheels sandblasted and they did AWESOME JOB!

106_4372.JPG

Bought a hitch for my van to drag the camper around. It was on-sale at Princess Auto for $89.00 -

106_4373.JPG

I'm always thinking of my boys and this caught my eye today while at Princess Auto:

106_4374.JPG

And the rides are out of COLD storage, tagged and ready to rock!

I have yet to have anything powder coated, but these wheels would definitely be best served with that process.

Be careful....stuff that is sand blasted will rust real quick. In most cases, when you're going to get stuff powder coated..you sand blast it and then immediately powder coat it....

It's not like it's real dry in your neck of the woods....

Do you like your parking mats? With the construction happening out here my garage gets full of mud and ****. I would like to drag them out and wash them off instead of scraping and sweeping mud out every other day.

I hear ya brother - I'll get a coat of etch primer on them today and then they'll be good until I decide what to put on them.

What's the deal with the blankets under the cars? What purpose do they serve?
See below....

I wouldn't be without them! Careful though, like anything, there's good and BAD: the first one I got looked good to start with, but I quickly found that the material got brittle quickly, then split, letting water seep through. Also, they had hard plastic edging that you clipped the mat into (after cutting it to your specific sizing needs), which was an OK idea, but they also got brittle, trapped dirt under them and even cut the mat in places.

These new ones are a more pliable, much more durable, one-piece construction, with a rope sewn into the edges. They keep the water and mud contained and can be folded or rolled at the front end to size them.

I wouldn't be without them in any climate above Southern California! They keep all the dirt, grime, mud, salt and water contained and are easily squeegeed off or pulled out and washed off. I love the look of RaceDeck flooring, but mud, water and dirt goes through that flooring and is trapped under it, sitting on your floor - which is exactly what you don't want (I don't anyways!).

Being an '81 (not quite a 67 RS!), it just has the 5L (305) in it. Without the roof it is about 600lbs lighter than stock though, so that helps a bit! If one were to replace the ridiculously restrictive single exhaust with a true dual set up, I'd bet you'd easily gain another 40HP too.

I was just thinking how nice it is that you Southern Cali people don't rub our noses in the weather differences.....then you did! :wtf: :bounce:

Just commented on those wheels over on the HAMB. So here I will ask how do you plan to finish them ? Paint ? Powder Coat ? Hope you kept gloves on your hands to handle them. it would be a shame to have a sweaty mark come through the finish.

Indeed Sir! Pretty much the first thing you are taught in auto body work (and reminded of often), is to not touch RTC (ready-to-coat) metal with bare hands. Of course RTC is often mis-understood: freshly sandblasted metal may not be RTC. There can be contaminants left by the sand, the blasting environment, the sandblasters gloves (or hands) and more.
As well, "Coat" can mean primer and paint, but also fillers - of any type. The safest and most technically proficient method is to put on fresh rubber gloves, then treat the surfaces to be coated with a Wax & Grease Remover (enamel reducer is also used) before applying fillers, primers or paint.

Lucky for me, Dupli-color just shipped me a fresh case!

106_4383.JPG

So, after a thorough cleaning, I put on a few coats of DC's Etch Primer until I can get them powder coated.

I am really enjoying the progress on the Z. I have a '72 sitting in my driveway, waiting for me to get to it. After seeing your progress, I am feeling a little motivated. Guess I need to get my **** in gear.

Nice work BTW, you got some skills!

I haven't even started yet. Had a '73, stripped it down and it turned out to be a bondo special (almost an inch thick in some spots). So I picked up the 72 last fall, but haven't even started the teardown yet. I'll use the 73 as a parts car. Maybe this weekend I'll start tearing it down.

Almost caught up on the side-track jobs....had to make SIX trips to the rentals and dump to remove the winters accumulated junk and garbage, spring-cleaning our yard and fixing the hot tub (heating element).

Now I can get back to the FUN stuff!!

Seems like we all need 25 hours in a day to get everything done.
What color are you planning on powder coating the rims? I've seen some nice work of the chrome look powder coat.

Fer sure on that! But i'm trying to get better at calling in "pro's" to do some stuff - and then not watching over their shoulders... but then things eff-up anyways....like today, I called a plumber to fix a dripping shower. Then the guy broke the pipe off inside the wall! Then he calls and says he'll have to take the whole shower out to get at it....REALLY? Can't you get at it from the other side in the hall or kitchen? OH ya, right - you can.....Sheesh.

As for the wheels, not sure on color yet....I was thinking a creme color, but a black chrome sounds good too.

HeHe! I was WAY better off leaving the plumbing to a pro - in every way! I'm sure it would have broken off on me too, so I saved myself a TON of aggravation and time. Some things just aren't worth doing....especially for only $275!!

You know e-Tek, I might be inclined to trade some work for a couple hours in that hot tub LOL!!! Too bad you're all the way up there in Canada :D

Well if you're ever WAY up this way, you'll know why I think it's a necessity! It's always full of people partying and carrying on, so feel free to jump in anytime!

HaHa - just being friendly O - you know you're invited too! :lol_hitti

I did finish up a couple things today, even though my "official" shop days don't start until tomorrow...

Got the 12V conversion buttoned up on my 46 MErc truck that the kids have lovingly termed, "Ol Man".....

106_4411.JPG

106_4412.JPG

Then took all the spring accumulous to the dump -

106_4410.JPG

106_4409.JPG

As some of you know, my oldest son has many health issues. Spring being such a dirty time I affixed Allergen-reducing filters to the screens of their bedroom windows. Hoping it'll help in some small way...

O - you musta missed something....I already DID my 2-car....

Unfortunately tho, living in Scratch-my-wand, we have to use giant garage -diapers to contain all the snow, ice, salt, dirt and mud that comes off out cars.....those, along with the ubiquitous ladders, boots, shoes, jackets and overflow tools, means it'll never look as good as some of the dedicated spaces on GJ :(

After nearly a full day of yard work to get the place looking summer-ready, I finally got to the fun stuff!

106_4444.JPG

Careful use of the cutting torch yielded separation of the fender brackets without damaging the frame:

By the time I got done, it was getting late:

:willy_nil Stop flirting you two. :lol_hitti Time we got to see some progress on something Ed.

Ohhhhhhh, don't stop me HOT. The more I get to know about E-tek's abilities and fab skills, the more likely I am to declare my undying love in public and totally embarrass myself. :D I can do all right but some of you guys just amaze me!

"Be Prepared To Stop" indeed ... even the Cuda's "lightning fast" Aerospace disc brakes wouldn't be enough if I was passing that garage.:thumbup::thumbup:

On a more mundane note....Spent a few hours engineering my way to lifting the Model T-rod shell and frame onto the table I built for it. Being a one-man operation, it sometimes takes a while to get things done - but get done they do.

106_4459.JPG

Pulling the rear axle assembly was easy - 4 castle nuts hold the arched spring to the rear cross member and that's it!

106_4460.JPG

After removing the right side fender today, I hooked it all up to the crane in order to get the body and frame up onto the table I built -

106_4464.JPG

106_4467.JPG

106_4469.JPG

The Pullz-All comes in handy in a variety of settings.

106_4471.JPG

Once back as far as the picker against the table would allow, I lowered it onto some dowels to make the final move easier -

106_4473.JPG

106_4474.JPG

Getting that done, along with some gardening, cruising in the 46 Merc AND the 81 TA and some shopping at Princess Auto, made for a glorious day 2 of the May long weekend! (Doesn't hurt that the wife and kids are away for the weekend too!!)
