Good to see a US based family owned company expanding and building a solid product.

These are not going to "test" 2-3X better than the Tekton, Bremen, Milwaukee.... pliers to justify the cost. You are only going to buy these if you want to support USA manufacturing.

I'll bet that they are going to be about the same as the Tekton, which from my 10 second spring loaded center punch test on the jaws are about the same, if not the same, as the Peterson I have. Taiwan and China know how to harden cr-mo steel if they want to spend the $ on it. There aren't any secrets for something this simple. It's like trying to justify SK or Snap On socket price vs Tekton or Sunex.

Malco's Eagle Grip Story

That sealed the deal, today on a test ride I found a late model set of Irwins on the road, I'm sure they were used hard but the jaws are toast!
They'll be good for welding but not much more.
Now the decision is SO for the convenience or direct for the price?

Snap-on is just over twice the price of the tentative pricing Jori of HJE posted.

https://shop.snapon.com/product/LP-Series/10"-Locking-Pliers-with-Cutter/LP10WC

LP10WC $78.95

https://shop.snapon.com/product/LP-Series/7"-Locking-Pliers-with-Cutter/LP7WC

LP7WC $70.95

This is what we're planning on selling them at unless they try and enforce MAP pricing.

LP7R - $34.95
LP7WC - $33.95
LP10R - $38.95
LP10WC - $36.95

LP11C - $49.95
LP11SP - $51.95

IMO, if you have reliable dealer service, who will honor the warranty, SO is the way to go. Teeth are holding up very well after a month. It's weird to use them, they actually hold and grip what you lock them onto.... very nice product regardless of whose name is on them.

No they won't be 2x better but they do appear be good effort all round with upper jaw flush fit through pin as well as brazing, proper threaded collar for the adjustment screw that will handle abusive tightening via hex key better and jaw teeth pattern along with jaw fitment alignment and final grind all well done.
If teeth durability and jaw alignment hold up as well as would expect from initial inspection then they are worth something extra and I expect price will come down a little once the initial marketing passed and all retail channels got stock .
Hopefully they make proper effort with range of grip models and be bit innovative and stay in production .
Taiwan done it well at low cost (bremen and toptul good examples of this) and made most of copying the model range but never improved design or added innovative special purpose grips .

I have a good supply of Vise grips in general, but plan on picking up a couple of the Eagle grips anyway at some point. If I had a reliable Snap-on dealer, I'd consider picking up a set of the 10WR equivalent from them since I use those for gripping stuff most of the time.

Price wise I'd have figured it around 30$ or so, the C-clamp versions are a bit spendy though. They appear to be quite promising overall.

Thank you for that video. It made me into an Ambassador for the eagle grip. I will buy some and tell all of my buddies to buy them, and so on and so on.

If we all do this, it might just work.

Newell/Rubbermade/Irwin should be run off the face of the Earth for what they did to those workers at the old vise-grip plant. It's completely unacceptable. It should be illegal. It's fucked behavior.

I enjoy having a tool box full of quality tools..... instead of being full of the cheapest junk I can find. You may buy tools strictly based on price, but that doesn't mean everyone else does. Malco is NOT a new company and they've done just fine selling their other American made tools, and this particular tool will be no different.

that just one of many shut down to make elsewhere with almost slave labour and lapse safety and environmental control just because it cheap and shareholders can pocket more cash .
It not just USA either, UK and Europe done much same, UK especially, Major truck brand like Britool went under 2 decades ago, steel production and all the Sheffield made tools pretty much gone and all replaced by china import mainly one would expect .
Record turned to shite under Irwin .
While some import useful screwing up production capability, allowing huge conglomerates buy out everything and then ruin brand and country resources for maximum profit needs be addressed as situation is quite dire .

It's not just the hardness of the metal, its the fit and finish of the overall tool. I see a lot of cheap ones that are sloppy in the joints, jaws don't align perfectly, and so on, and they only seem to get worse with use. I think that is where the real difference comes in.

I'm going SO for the warranty, I have yet to have any vice grip teeth last. How hard have you beat on them? I REALLY hope they can come out with a needle nose set simply for sway bar end links....they have claimed many a vice grip on me!

For the time I've had them, I have zero visible wear on the teeth thus far. I've only used the 7" pair once, extracting an M6 bolt. The 10" pair has probably done 20 end links or so already? Most of which I used a 1/2 impact on the other side. I had a couple times it spun the link in the teeth at max rpm, no real damage, which impressed me. Only 1 of those links I ended up having to just melt the head off. It's seen a similar number of slide pins, and some light hammering on. I don't really do the two-handed baseball swing with a 3lb sledge on the vise-grips locked on the slide pin, normally the really nasty ones I peel out with an air hammer. But the mildly rotted and frozen ones (still wiggle just a hair) I may be stuck reusing, I used the locking pliers on, and they did well. Yes, there was mild wrist-powered hitting with a hammer involved. I used them today to bend some ABS wire mounting tabs on some struts I was installing. The minimal flex let me open them up to easily slide over the brackets, and bend them up slightly. IMO the ABS wire was going to be just a little too taut over the knuckle.

The jaws actually meet when closed, and meet evenly. They don't go all crooked when clamping down either. They seem to grip as well as I reasonably believe such a product can be capable of. Obviously I want locking pliers strong enough to put a cheater-pipe over and spin out honda crank bolts. But that's above and beyond what is realistic. :p

Bought some stuff from my snap-on driver and got him to swap my current broken curved jaw snap-on vise grips for these new ones. They are MUCH nicer than the old "grip-on" versions just at initial feel.

Will use them for a week or two of alignments and general repairs and report back.

Nice! Surviving the old impact on the other end of a link is exactly my goal!

These are now available to buy. They are selling them through Amazon. The only downside to Amazon, based on my experience, is the prices can fluctuate when supplies are low. For example, $10 high one week but $15 lower a few weeks later. I'll wait and see when the initial buzz and check on the prices again.

The initial release of 7" and 10" pliers, curved jaw as well as straight jaw, appears to have sold out on Amazon the day that these pliers released.
Guess there were quite a few of us out there looking to buy "Made in the USA" locking pliers. I bought both sizes of straight jaw pliers. Looking forward to comparing to the old Vise Grips in the toolbox.

Strange that Amazon removed the listings for all Eagle Grip pliers.

I called HJE today and their shipment is supposed to go out the first week of May.

HJE is less expensive than the Amazon pricing. They are also a small business that supports us little guys here on GJ

I was not planning on ordering from Amazon. I just saw that someone mentioned Amazon had them in stock.

I am planning to visit HJE the second week of May if I can make the timing work out. It may be past closing time by the time I am passing through Kansas City.

What was the pricing on Amazon for 10 and 7 inch versions? It’s been painful waiting for these to hit the market and now we have to deal with supply issues.

Hopefully Dewitt plant doing 6 day weeks and plenty overtime lol .
I would relax and wait for full retail channels become stocked and hype worn off .
I'll be holding out for local stores get them so I can walk in a store and buy them like my father did .
wish they had boxed them like the old days rather than plastic wrap .
In meantime fill your craving with a old but almost new condition usa vise grip hunt .
I got a 75 anniversary 7WR pair at weekend, would of been nice if little cleaner as would of put them in office on wall with a eagle grip pair as bit of art and history, they'll be put to work or maybe on eBay bidding lol .

HJE said that Malco won't ship their order of Eagle Grip pliers until the first week of May. I suspect it is going to take Malco a little bit to get the product out the doors to distributors and retailers.

I doubt anyone is going to miss out just because a few retailers that happened to have stock on day one are sold out.

Yeah, because the backorder problem is so extensive we're going to wait till we're 100% sure they're on the way to put them on our website. Once I get the bill in the mail (usually comes a day or two before the shipment) I'll get the listings up there.

I see this as a good thing. It means people are buying them.

I will probably wait until the hype dies down a bit, unless I happen to see some in a B&M store. I won't be able to resist that.

I guess almost 2 decades of chinese irwin and snapon spanish gripon over priced and under performance has led to a user desire for proper made and good old Rona has increased desire for home manufacture .
Dewitt factory going need up the working hours/days to feed the world hunger for first class grips ...

Pliers are bit like wrenches where top quality will turn grip cut break a fixing a slightly lesser tool fails on and stay serviceable much longer .

What's that old saying? "The memory of cheap price disappears quickly but the reality of poor quality drags on and on". Or something like that.
